For the second time in as many weeks ive blown a brand new gasket.  Twice the mechanic replaced it and twice it has literally blown out on the right side of the camshaft ( i think)  It's that semicircle of rubber on the upper right side of the engine beneath the gas tank.  The second time it happened it almost looked like the sealant corroded the rubber.  My question...what sealant should i use..???  Should i use a sealant at all..??  is anyone out there having the same kinda problem..??  Please help....i'm on the verge of reaching the conclusion my bike is cursed with annoying problems.  Thanx in advance yall..

First, soak up any oil hiding in that little space between the camshaft and the gasket surface. Then clean the surface thoroughly on both the rubber and the gasket surface. If the rubber is pocked(little holes), it will probably leak again. Replace the rubber. Before you reinstall, apply Gaskacinch to both surfaces, and let it get tacky. You should only have to use Gaskacinch in the half-moon areas.

Hm. blown out... Could it be that the engine vent hose (the one running from your valve cover to the airbox) is blocked? The void under the valve cover should not develop significant overpressure that can blow out a gasket.

Alternatively one of the valve shaft sealscould be severely leaking, so that you get exhaust under the valve cover. That's not a condition that you want to last long.

The valve seals were cleaned  and intact and everything carefully done twice but i do agree about the pressure seeming to be higher than it should be.  I did have a jet kit installed with a V+H full exhaust but i have noideawhat could be causing this.  I will check the air vent hose....by the way how do i do that.  I'm not all that mechanically inclined but am willing to try the basic stuff.  Thanx so far for the help guys.... :thumb:

The cover on top of the valve cover, that is secured by four 10mm wrench bolts, and has the crankcase vent hose that goes to the airbox, that is the crankcase vent cover. There is a metal mesh screen that is supposed to keep oil in (via gravity), and allow air to pass freely, that may need to be cleaned. I'd just rinse it with gas and blow it dry with an air compressor or just shake it out and let it dry. Check that the vent hose, between the crankcase vent cover and the airbox, isn't clogged or kinked, first. And to do that it would be easiest to take the tank off.
