Temperature gauge?

Is there a temp gauge available for bikes? It would be good to know when things are really heating up. Sometimes I'm on long, uphill climbs on backcountry gravel/dirt roads in first/second gears, and it would be good to know if heat is becoming a problem. Has anybody installed a temp gauge?

OK 2 ways to do it...
1 dipstick. Remove the stick part drill the cap, tap it to the threads on the thermometer and buy an oil thermometer and screw it in. It should actually be as long as the stick when its in. Now I have never tried it, but presumably since oil is flying around there... you may not get a constant reading... oil hits it and its hot, then start to drop and then again hot again... etc.
2. Screwed into main oil galley. Right side on the bototm of the motor... in front of and under your toe... there is a chrome bolt. OIl galley plug. Take that out drill it and tap it for a banjo bolt. Then Get steel braided line and a banjo bolt and fit a oil guage to it. The guage prolly has a 1/8 pipe fitting, and you should get #3 line to 1/8 pipe and a 10mm banjo for #3 line and pretty much put it together. Then find a way to fit the guage to the frame. You can get one that lights up, or a dual guage which reads pressure and temp, etc etc. Guages are made by many many industrial supply places. Johnson controls, weksler, many more. Search on google. Easy project IMHO.
Cool.

In Europe you can buy replacement dipsticks / 710-caps that have the temp gauge built in (eg 10034152 at www.louis.de) I'd imagine that bikebandit has similar parts.

These seem to work well, BTW.

You can also buy oil drain plugs with temp sensors built in, that you can hook up to an electronic instrument that you add to the cockpit.
