I think the lights are really fixed this time.

I went for a very pleasant hour & 1/2 ride tonight with my wife. Moonlight, and 75 degrees in the desert.   The lights worked great.

For anyone who has the random light dimming problems, I first replaced the regulator and the problem remained. After replacing the stator as well the lights are bright and consistent. I can't help but wonder if the hot oil bath the stator spins in on the GS is not a good design.  :dunno:
