I think the cake goes to those Idiot Women who write love letters to death row prisoners ... Just IMHO ... Act of rage, or hunger or thrill seeking ... etc is almost explainable ... done it many times ... but considering it takes a good 1/2 hour+ to write a letter and maybe searching for envelopes or stamps is another 10 mins where you're not emotional ... Gisser hit the nail on the head. Celebrity. Our society holds celebrity higher than just about anything else. Look at the money spent on entertainment, on actors, performers. Scott Peterson is getting marriage proposals...because he's famous. Can you believe it? Women seem to think that they can "change" a man, make him settle down, be loyal to them. They think the other woman didn't do it right and they can.
I kills me how some (most?) women think. They're attracted to the biggest, baddest, most powerful (socially) man. Why? Because it's ingrained into their being to find the best physical genes and the best provider for their children. They want the alpha male. Problem is, the man that fits their ideal isn't going to settle for just one woman. Women have this twisted belief that they can change that. Women think they can change Mr. bad-ass into Mr. mom. Ladies, it doesn't happen.
BTW, there is NOTHING equal about men and women. About the only similarily we have is a head, trunk, and two arms and legs. Men are the muscular hunters. Women are the frail gatherer/nurturers. Show me ANY woman who can compete in mens professional sports. Of course with an advanced society these roles are no longer needed and in a few (hundred) thousand years we may come closer together physically. Mentally, men are the hunters and have better spacial and abstract skills. We invent and plan "things". Women have the empathic and social skills. Again, companies need EVERYONE there EVERYDAY. Why have someone who is absent more than another in a critical position? Not good business sense.

Joe, you seem to have a suspiciously anti-female, anti-ghey complex. Are you a compensator? If women are not as able in the physical sports I don't think it's because they are female but because society continues to insist from a very young age that they behave in a certain manner. It has just come to light in the past decade or so that females have as much ability as men in anything that can be compared. Men do generally develop more bulky stronger physiques but other than that it would seem the playing field is pretty much evening out. As far as jockeys and race-car drivers, well, it's obvious you have never been either one. Horses do not just run races by themselves and cars definitely do not. And did you know that the most accomplished airbatic pilots are now women? And as far as who is dumber...shaZam!, that's definitely a toss-up. If you ask me I think both sexes can tend to be equivalently stooopid. Heck they are all around me. Love the Baby GS and this forum.

If you consider having good social skills, as being "smart", fine. This may have been valid before the advent of the pill, and before women could get decent paying jobs. Oh, I DO consider good social skills as "smart". In fact there is a whole field of thought believing in two types of intelligence. The standard IQ and a "social intelligence". Women by and large are MUCH better in the social skills than men. That is a GOOD thing. You talk your way into/out of things. We hit to get what we want. (Of course NOT always literally for all those out there with purely black and white minds.) I truly believe that women have their strengths and their place. Just as men have their strengths and their place. What I DO object to is people trying to convince us all the we are EQUAL. We are not. We both have areas where we excel and areas where we don't. We are not equal.
IF (please read that word)... IF a woman decides to have a baby SHE NEEDS HELP. I won't argue that, it's a given. Didn't I say that with a modern society help it there? Things ARE different now. That these traits are residual, left over from the days of old. I believe I was quite clear. But, even in modern society a pregnant woman or a woman with a newborn is at a REAL "independence" disadvantage. She just is. She NEEDS help from someone or she won't survive.

You REALLY need to read my posts and not just target in on this detail and that. I always clearly state that there is a bell curve and that most men are in the middle of THEIR bell curve as most women are in the middle of theirs. For any given strength or weakness you'll find that mens and womens bell curves DON'T line up. They don't overlap.
I also tried to explain WHY women don't receive equal opportunity and equal pay. There IS a reason for it. Men don't wake up in the morning and say "how can I discriminate today". It's the members of a group who want to buck the trend, who don't want to do what is "normal" who create the problems. Women are SUPPOSED to have the babies, stay home, and raise them. Men are supposed to go to work and earn a living. THAT is how it's supposed to work. You may not like it, but it's a fact. Things run much better that way. You may not agree, fine, you're wrong, but fine. When society mimics nature, things run better for everyone.

Women learned to reason with testosterone. It's a GOOD thing they can do.
All your examples are someone "driving" something else. Something else is doing the work and the driver simply "directs" it. Is it hard to jockey a horse, I'm sure it is. Does it get tireing driving a car, sure. But it's STILL NOT a true sport where it's just you doing a thing. Men throw farther, throw faster, jump higher, jump farther, run faster, run farther, etc, etc.
Remember the bell curve. There will always be that one in a million woman who can jump real high. But given 1,000 men and 1,000 women, the mens AVERAGE will be much higher than the womens. And as far as records are concerned, the men hold them all.
BOTH sexes have their good points AND their bad points. My post was only to show that we are NOT equal. Meaning, NOT the same.

Even if you say 1 or 2 or even 3, I've still made my point. If we were in fact equal it would be a 50/50 team. Evolution plays a MAJOR role in the gender differences. We're each good at different things.

Ah, a refreshing reprise from the usual post. You ARE right, in some situations a female "negotiator" would be the better choice. BUT, what happens when the talking doesn't work and the husband goes wild. She can't stop him. And if you NEED another officer there, a man, for backup, then isn't she less valuable than the man? And if it's always a man/woman team and the woman can't handle the physical part then isn't she again less valuable? Unless she does ALL the talking to compensate? I can't think of many women who could take me down if I was enraged.
You see, I believe in getting the best to do a job and not letting just anyone who wants to, do it. Ibelieve in equal opportunity. If you're not as good as the next guy you lose. I don't believe in artificially stacking the deck to give someone an edge. I believe in meeting standards and not different standards for different people. I believe in equal pay for EQUAL work. If there is some part of a job you can't do, then your pay will reflect it. I'm very much for fair treatment. But that also includes what's best for EVERYONE as a whole, society.
I brought up cops, firemen, military, because I have some experience there. I've seen standards lowered JUST to get women in the door. Instead of carrying 150lbs now it's 70lbs. If I'm out cold in a basement, I want that guy who carried at least 150lbs bringing me up. I've seen women come in right off the street and take the "cushy" jobs that in the past men had gained through years and years of seniority. Why? Because they couldn't handle the tough physical jobs that were the starter jobs. So, tell me, why should these men have to "suffer" doing the heavy stuff so a woman can "join the team"? As an equal? I've seen the problems of a single female in a group of men. Where there was a tight knit comradeship, it was destroyed as they jockeyed for her favor.

I've seen offices "forced" to hire deaf people and 50% of the job was over the phone. Guess what, the deaf got the same pay! What is this all about? It's about quotas.
You know it's one thing to blatently discriminate against a race or sex for no reason. But it's another thing altogether to "force" somebody to hire someone who is not as good as another because of their race or sex. Too many laws are kneejerk reactions to problems that weren't really problems on a grand scale. Someone made a lot of noise and the law is changed for the benefit of a very few and the detriment of many.

Men want to have sex, often. That is how women keep us interested. Human women are the only animal receptive all the time. We do our jobs for two reasons. The ego thing. We identify ourselves through what we do. I'm a mechanic, I'm a banker, etc. A good job is a status thing. Determines your social ranking. Second, we work to get things to attract/keep a woman. House, car, boat, bike, etc. That's it.
The ones who are beautiful AND smart marry CEOs and live lavish lives. They then divorce and take half. Then they travel the world doing whatever they want. Like I said, they're smart. Beauty gets them in the door and brains plans the future.

Joe, it was interesting that you said you couldn't think of MANY women who could take you down if you were enraged...so you must conclude that in a physical confrontation some women are definitely up to the task. Not all policeMEN are really that physical. With enough training even the smallest of people can take a larger more violent individual...IF they can keep their wits about them. In fact, most police forces, fire departments and the like, do have physical requirements that must be met whether male or female. Once again, the thread was not about whether a girl has bigger gonads than a boy (although I've met a few who I was sure they must! :lol: ). Instead it was; are women dumber. By the way, How on earth do you have the right to call ME naive? I'd be willing to bet I've dated more women, lived with more women, and probably married more women than you have. In fact, their body changes afterward helping with their longevity. Biology says grandmothers are good and helps them stay around longer. Women without children die at an earlier age than those who have had children.
Let me tell you something. You may remember that I said in another post that I'm retired but I have a "fun" part time job that I do for something to do? Well I work with women, all women, 15-20 depending on the day. And the customers, 99.9% are women, a hundred a day. I've got literally hundreds of female acquaintances. Thay all love me and we have REAL conversations. Not the crap that goes on when they're on their guard. Not what YOU talk about with them. Nothing that they say in mixed company. I hear what the "girls talk about", like I'm not there (like a man's not there). You see, they feel safe with me and the environment, they tell me many things they can't discuss with their spouse. We talk about husbands, kids, parents, joys, disappointments, problems at home, career, divorces, almost everything. And no, I'm not some alternative lifestyle man hairstylist. I'm the "grunt" who does the heavy lifting. You know, the jobs that the women can't.
You assume that because I say men are better in sports and better for certain jobs that I hate women. Nothing could be further from the truth. I love women. Just because I know their motivation doesn't make them anything less. Hell, look at OUR motivation. What could be lower? Tell me, what's the first thing you think about when you see a woman for the first time? Be honest. Sex... would you or wouldn't you want to do it with her. That is WHAT we as men are. We can't help it. Now, is THAT something to be so proud of? If you're a man, yes. At least a woman is more noble, she wants to make sure any future kid is secure too. She's not out to just "hit and run". Why do men get into relationships? Because the sex is good, the woman is beautiful, and they don't want anyone else touching her. If men could REALLY have their way we'd have a harem. As we walked down the street we'd be adding to it. Men want to have sex with ALL the women. The pretty ones anyway.

I can't believe that last sentence. Do you have proof of that? I couldn't draw it and my wording was bad. I meant they don't overlap DIRECTLY on top of each other. One curve "lost" on top of the other. One curve peak is off to the left or right of the other. The bottoms of the "bells" most definately DO overlap. Is that a better description? And I'd be willing to bet that in almost EVERY testable catagory we'd see this. Sometimes women scoring better (much better) than men, other times men with the advantage. I'd bet there are very few things (maybe resting heart rate or breathing rhythm) where both curves would directly overlap.

I don't think that putting your kid in daycare with some ignorant teenager making $5 an hour is good for our kids. You want THEIR morals ingrained into your kids psyche? You should hear the stories I've heard about what goes on. One of the ladies I talked to couldn't finish the day working at a daycare. She said they were very mean to the kids. Then, when the parents get home they SPOIL the kids rotten to make up for it. Yea kid, you can have anything you want and we'll call it "quality time". Yes, we did it, we went the two income route and we regret it now. Sure he's "OK" but we both think he'd have come out much better and been easier to handle if we had raised him completely ourselves. The hurt is to me when their "rights" interfere with my "rights". It does happen you know. My hurt is paying tax dollars to support a group that shouldn't be here (illegal mexicans). My hurt is allowing a travesty of a dearly held institution (gays changing the meaning of marriage). My hurt is paying for the treatment of gays diseases that run rampant in their group. My hurt is when a woman FORCES her way into a job she can't do and everyone else has to increase their work to cover for her while she "steals" the better positions others have worked years to attain because she can't do the other lower level jobs alone. There are times when I'm directly "hurt" by these peoples actions. Maybe not physically but at the least monitarily.
Since when is it noble to let others do what they want at your expense? Do you ALWAYS let others walk over you? Take advantage of you? Steal from you? I'm sure you too have limits. Hey Joe, my views did change as I moved up (I've long since retired...from the military and from the work-force), I used to hold some of the very same views as you. Then I started realizing that I cannot expect tolerance for myself from others if I can't give tolerance to others. I have come to understand that any group of people of, say, an ethnicity, religion, social standing...pick any group...will have those who are selfish and don't care about the rights, needs and wants of others. But this doesn't give me license to subject those groups, as a whole, to discrimination merely because they are of, or participate in, certain ideals that I myself do not subscribe to. Until we are judging based on fundamental standards of wrong such as violence without defense, theft where there is no basic need or any such thing that relates to the basic creed of not hurting, taking or forcing, we start becoming lower on a sliding scale than those whom we would seek to pass judgement. Again, I have to disagree. I think that society NEEDS standards and that constantly lowering them is bad. Look at everything that is "accepted" now. Laws/morals/values are broken every second and in broad daylight. When people don't care about and disregard the "little" things they quickly begin to disregard the big things. You know this is true. It's the slippery slope. It's REAL, the downward slide really happens. It's happening now. Society goes down a little more each year.
Q? Do you think our society is better now than in the past? Would you have rather grown up when you did or now? I'll pick the past any day. Things are so screwed up now it's not funny. People can't let their kids play out side. TV has messed with kids minds turning them into consumer zombies. School is nothing but a big playground. With metal detectors! Metal detectors at a school? Not in my day. Now when there's a fight an ambulance carries away the loser. Kids are crazy. They'll shoot someone for a look, for 35 cents.
Look at school violence, kids shooting up the school. Why? Because they were bullied and nobody did anything about it. Bullies should be expelled. They are what made me bad as a kid. Can't beat them, join them. Only the little wimpy or the fat kids can't. They keep getting picked on.
Look at NYC. in the 70/80s it was a dump. Full of crime and dirty as hell. Gulliani moved in and started arresting people for the "small stuff" and guess what, they were the same people doing the "big stuff" only the big stuff stopped happening because they were locked up for doing the small stuff. Now, with the city safe, "regular" people began to move back in and now it's thriving.
The same thing is happening to the country in general. A lot of small stuff going on and nobody wants it stopped. Nobody cares. Except me I guess.
I really DON'T care who or what you are. Those ladies I talk about, many are black, latino, asian, I don't care! They really ARE in my mind just ladies. I talk to them all without thinking about race. But, if they try to steal something or break our rules then I do care. When there are noise ordanaces and you sit there with your stereo blasting, you're giving ME the finger. You're saying screw you, I'll do what I want and the hell with your right to peace. When you lower a standard that concerns the safety of the public to fit in some sardine eater who wants to be a firefighter, again, it becomes MY problem. When you want to change the MEANING of a longstanding institution, again, I care. When you want to engage in sick (yes I find it sick) behavior in public I'm enraged. I'm enraged that our leaders allow 10 million theives to steal our tax money, our medical services, fill our schools, take our jobs, to even BE here. I blame the business owners for allowing it too.
Everyone is just a person until proved an @$$hole by their actions. I DON'T discriminate and I don't believe in discrimination. But, I also don't believe in affirmative action which is just descrimination. And I don't believe in lowering physical standards to fit a genders shortcoming.
I don't think you can draw the line that low with your don't hurt, take or force. I think morals need to be set higher and the line higher too.
And women have equal rights but different abilities, their job choices should reflect it.
I'm tired, and this has also been beaten into the ground. I can't really say anything else.
Maybe when I get real old, I'll stop caring about the world we live in and I too will throw up my hands, say I quit, and mellow out completely.
See, I don't expect tolerance because I don't go around annoying people and requiring it. Here I annoy people because you don't like the truth. I belive in the golden rule and I live that way. I won't bother you, you don't bother me. I do my thing without affecting you, I expect you to do the same. I won't blast my stereo, you don't either. I won't do sick things in public, you don't either. I pay my way, you should too. Get it? When everyone lives by accepted rules, there really isn't any need for tolerance. It's the boat rockers that need the tolerance. And I have no need for boat rockers.
That doesn't mean we're all stepford families. Not at all, you can be an individual but you do it within reason. Reason, I guess that's it in a nutshell. Be reasonable and everyone is happy.
That is MY ideal society. Everyone pulls their weight. Everyone is free to do whatever they want as long as they don't bother others physically, morally. Everyone self-regulates their own behavior. Pretty much what the founding fathers had in mind.

I think when women say they are equal to men, then FINE, im cool wiht that, let em play in the NBA WIHT the guys, the nfl as well, the NHL, not a womens version. im all for equal treatment, let em work TOGETHER. as far as smarter. ? ive seen some dumbwomen, as well as some DUMB men, so THAT is a hard call

Dontcha know I was a linebacker for the Dolphins :whisper: I can almost dunk a b-ball though without trying so if I can do it at 5'8" imagine if I was 7'3" i could (before heart problem) keep up with the guys. Actually, with my heart problem I can beat a great many guys at b-ball now. They usually think i'm a guy when I play then I take off the hat and they get real embarassed!

Oh, what a controversial topic this is!
I think men and women are overall equally stupid, but in different ways. Women tend to be more emotional than men, which causes them to make emotionally-based decisions, which is not a wise thing to do. Men, on the other hand, tend to have more pride, which can make them take stands it's also not wise to make. So in everyday life, I think the stupidity, or lack of wisdom, is more-or-less equal.
Politically, it's another story. Men tend to be politically more conservative than women. I believe conservative government is best, as it protects your freedoms by spending less money on social programs, leaving more money in your pockets, giving you more choices, hence more freedom, not wanting to get involved in more and more of our daily lives. I don't believe the government should be involved in most aspects of our daily lives. Name for me one social problem that's gotten better since the government got involved. You can't. It doesn't exist.
To me that's a sign of a society that's falling apart. Most women disagree with me on that. Look at how they vote. 4 out of 5 women vote liberal, while about 4 out of 5 men vote conservative their whole lives. Women get more conservative as they age, reaching almost 50% conservative voters when they have gray hair, which tells me they do learn politically, but for most it comes too late.
You may have noticed I left Democrat and Republican out of this discussion, and I did it for good reasons. I view the Republicans as becoming too liberal for our own good, and the Democrats have been very liberal for many decades. Both are now bad for our future, it's just a matter of degree. Our government has become much more liberal since women started voting in 1920. In fact, when you look at who white women vote for in most cases, there's your winner. Women, particularly white women, control our elections more than any other group, and they are mostly vulnerable to emotional appeals, which is dangerous. I'm not saying I wish they never voted, but I wish they'd use their heads instead of their hearts when they vote. They just elected a Marxist for president of the United States. Did they pay attention to that? I doubt it. I think they were taken-in by his athletic stature, good looks, and smooth talking. Do they understand the horrible human rights history of Marxism? I don't think so.

In actuality we need a great depression or we will never re write some of these, and never get the costs structure down for anything.
I think we need to walk into a doctors office and see prices for the different things offered. Like at mcdonalds.
The worst feature of western culture IMHO is - the college costs and the idiotic cultural trappings of society.
There were these kids in my neighborhood, many of them ... since I've lived there for 6 years I am the grandpa for these kids ... yea screw that, I am bad ass biker dude who is considered now reformed and I only do what is right due to born again faith ... whatever ... So, 90% of them by the time they hit 15-16-17, moved out ... and some of em live round the corner really, and without fail, they are working at McDonalds or Bojangles. There is just 2 that I know of, they are both living at home and guess what one of going to community college and other to UNC charlotte.
Huge difference there ... if you dont have bills to pay, you can actually afford to do something important ... like study. However Obama is pushing the "college for everyone" version of communism ... so I can totally see how this will back fire ...
Instead of being a bojangles employee with bills to pay ... you will now be a bojangles employee deep in college debt and have the bills also.
Very very important thing the Idiots we elect dont know ... the law of diminishing returns ... if 60% of people were home owners, and the country was happy, push it to 70% and the whole country will be depressed.
Same thing with college ... heck, we are exporting engineering jobs left right and center ... if we educate engineers I can see a small benifit to that, there will be a sorta supply that can stem the outflow because they can find the talent here (the biggest pretext for the outflow BTW).
However this big flow of people into schools is going to be in things other than true engineering, why, if you were inetersted in becoming an engineer, the threshold for your aptitude and requirements were so high, the ones that clear that went into it no matter what. They are not waiting for any governmental decree. This is going to create a lot of froth (much like the housing bubble did) ... so to save ourselves from the housing bubble we are now having a college bubble.
