Title: Acerbis Blitz Headlight vs. Buell Dual Headlights
Post by: Narcissus on October 14, 2005, 08:00:08 PM
I've been wanting to replace the headlight since I got the GS, the big round bulb just isn't my thing I guess. Anyways I'm wondering if anyone has had any experience with the Blitz Headlight by Acerbis? Its really damn cheap which leads me to believe... that its really damn cheap! It has the stacked bulb look I like and I'm quite sure it would fit the GS (I'd find out for sure form the compnay before ordering). So if anyone has something to add I'd love to hear it.

Acerbis Blitz Headlight - $80 USD:

or I could always get something more expensive...

Heres a better picture of the Blitz on a bike. I think it looks pretty good! It'd just need a wee paintjob.

Haha so do I, thats why I got the E instead of the F. The Blitz doesn't seem to be very common so I'm having a hard time finding any info on it but I've e-mailed the Acerbis as well as wildhairaccessories (they hosted the streetfighter pic) to see if I could get the e-mail address of the owner of the Bandit 1200. I found another pic of the same Bandit in their galleries, side view this time. I'm really diggin' the shape of the Blitz, its projected forward at the bottom unlike most fairings. Maybe after I get this the GS will look hot enough for a GStwin.com decal  ;)

I'm incredibly stupid, I just relized that the Bandit has no speedo or tach on it that I can see... I guess it is made for dirt bikes so it shouldn't suprise me. Anyone have any ideas? I guess it means I need smaller guages or I need to relocate atleast one of them.

You mean headlight like these eh? I'm looking for stacked headlights but these could look pretty good too... Haven't been able to find a picture of them on a GS yet though.

I can't believe I'm about to say this, but... just do a search. :thumb:

I've been looking to do the same Buell or Acerbis headlight mod and there's a ton of info on the site for both. I don't have the link handy, but there's a full write-up with proper instruction for buying and installing the Buell headlights that someone did here. I'm probably going to go the Buell way over the Acerbis headlight.

The search, what a truely unique and ingenious idea    I dunno how I'll like the dual headlights side by side but unless I can get wee guages or move the stock ones it might be the only option.

Looks like raylarrabee and indestructableman both have dual headlights.  Definately needs some sort of fairng to tie the tops of the headlights to the guage cluster though, unless you like the bare naked look  :P

Success!!! I guess the Blitz headlight will fit on without moving the guage cluster at all, probably just an adjustment in mounting it. A digital speedo would be interesting though. I've heard of people using digital bike speedos?

Hadn't hear that either of them weren't street legal. Why wouldn't they be?

On their website it only specifys that one model of their headlights if CS/DOT approved, but it look like crap. So whats the difference between a DOT approved headlight and one that isn't? Did Acerbis just fork out thousands of dollars for some guys to look it over and give the thumbs up or could it endanger other motorists in some way? I know of two people in my area that have Acerbis headlights (Diamond and DHH) and they're both confident that they are DOT approved.

I read a previous post about an acerbis headlight, and if I remember correctly the bulbs are pretty dim.  I don't do a lot of night riding, but I can't imagine riding with less light than what the stock light puts out. :o   I haven't heard anything about the Buell lights, but if you could set it up so that both lights are on for high-beam, and one for low that might be a good solution, and it will probably give you more light.  I don't know how handy you are, but you could try to rig the Buell lights into a stacked configuration, or even use 2 sets, and have a 2 on 2 configuration.  That would be unique if nothing else, and it might even look really cool. :dunno:

oppy, that was my next question; sure they look nice but how is the light output. They appear to be projectors but i cant see projectors giving off less light than an oem halogen bulb. Chime in,experts.....

I have a diamond on one of my ninjas. It is really good, the only thing is that I had to hold it on with some extra supports because it did not fit the width of the forks #1 and #2 I am going to have to adjust it because it points at the sky. Other then that.. it is really REALLY bright. I wish that they were white.. HID style.. but I could probably replace the bulbs.. other then that.. $70 well spent, I would consider the blitz on my GS in a heartbeat. :thumb:

The Blitz headlight doesn't give off a whole lot of light unfourtunately, thats probably why its not DOT approved. I myself don't do much night riding, and if I do, its always in the city where theres more than enough ambient light. Luckily my neighbour is an experienced electrician and my father has a background in electricity. My plan is to pull out the puny 35w lowbeam and put in a 65w, then wire it so that they'll both come on when I select highbeam. Of course I'll only be observing throughout the whole thing but I could get some wiring diagrams drawn up for me without a doubt if anyone else wants to try the same thing.
