I'm just intrested in seeing the video. I did the valve change myself, after looking over the guide on the main site.

I downloaded it and it played all the way through.

It did take a long time to d/l - I'd guess 15 hours and I'm on a cable modem w/ a 3MB Connection

I tried downloading it from blueknyt's site but it stopped at about 80%. It took like 20 hours for just 80% at a 5k connection. And I have a cable modem! Anyway I just end up deleting when I found it from MPA's site: http://www.jackardisana.com/gs500.

28 min download @ 275k connection. Beautiful! Thankyou MPA!!!!!

yeah, my friend reset the server last night, would seem there was 7 members DLing it at the same time, He claims it was really hammering his bandwith (it was in his home afterall) and a site he normaly pings 50 was pinging 900.  so im sorry i did try to make it available and im still looking for a feesable and effeciant way to make it accessable to all.

If you wish to PM me, and send me a Blank CD with Self addressed envelope to put it in, i will happily make a copy and send it back to you.

You can use http://pingpong-abc.sourceforge.net/

There actually is a torrent file out there. For awile Rema1000 was hosting it. I think the only problem with the torrent is that it doesn't really work with just one person, unless they keep the connection up all the time. When I got the video from Rema it took like a day or so. I'll keep it up on my site as long as I have the bandwidth for it. I get 1 Tb a month, so hopefully that will easily cover the demand. Right now I am working on re-encoding the video into a smaller size that should make it easier to download for everyone.

Just downloaded from jardisan's site.  once I clicked on the link, it took about 30 min for the "save file" dialgoue box to appear, but once it did, I was downloading at about 7.3MB/sec so it took all of 75 seconds to get.  I was on a T3 which is a big pipe, but still the hosting server couldn't have been that bad at that rate.

good luck everyone and looking forward to sitting down and watching it.

Hmmmm I surprised that it took 30 mins for the save file dialog to come up, maybe there was a server problem or something. I downloaded it last night myself from home and it went pretty quick.

I used http://www.jackardisana.com/gs500 and it went fine.

The video is actually really well done. GJ Kerry!  :thumb:

WREX it might have downloaded in the background while the save thing was taking a poo. I know firefox will download as soon as its ready, even before you choose a place to save it. (then i guess it copies it there after)

Got a copy from Jardisan's link.  Thanks a million.  The guy I bought my GS from had a copy on CD-R that he gave me with the bike, but the file was damaged or the disk was scratched.

I've put up a copy on my server here. (http://www2.newnanutilities.org/~ewhitley1/vids/GS500ValveAdjustment.wmv)  Hopefully, it'll take some load off Jardisan.  Just do a Right-Click/Save.

Thanks for the additional link, it always helps to have more sites! I recompressed the video down to 180Mb (down from 550 Mb, its a little grainy at full screen resolutions, but looks good at like a 640x480 resolution. Is anyone interested enough for me to upload this?

Thanks!

Downloaded the video (and subsequently burnt it to CD). Watched it last night and I have to say, I was expecting alot more swearing from a DIY video lol. The video was very thorough and I have to say, the process doesn't look too difficult after seeing it perfomed in the video, I reckon even my numpty mechanic skills would see me through it.

Thank you Mr Kerry  :thumb:

I just saw this thread.   I'll download the video, convert it (WMV can be tricky, but my connverter program *should* be able to handle it)  and then I will AUTHOR DVDs with this video on there.  (I have a DVD burner and some GREAT authoring software).

If all goes well, I will probably charge between ~1.50 $2.00 per disc, plus shipping (which is usually ~$1).   This depends on what slimline cases will cost me

The price breakdown is $0.45 per DVD-R plus ~$0.45 per slimline case with the balance ($0.60-$1.10) being for my time (mailing, buying stamps, burning each DVD) and wear-and-tear on my DVD burner.   I hope it doesn't seem like i'm trying to make money here because there are a lot of other things I could be doing with my dvd burner that pays a lot more for a LOT less in material costs (like making cheerleading mix CD's, which pays $300-$400 a pop).

Kerry: If you would like a royalty for your work then send me a PM.

I'll post when the DVD's are available.  Depends on when I get the video and if I can get a spare weekend to work on it

I downloaded the video last Friday, it's great.  I ordered the tools Monday and will be tackling it next week.  I big thanks to Kerry for making the video.  Very well done, and very informative.  It's loaded with real world problems that always seem to crop up when working on things.  :thumb:

Additionally a big thanks to Blueknyt for being persistant in getting the needed permissions to post the file.  :thumb:

Last thanks to jardisan, for hosting the file.  Very fast connection!  Great job!   :thumb:

Lastly, I have hosted the file on my website as well.  Please right-click save-target-as the following link:

How about we just pass on his works in a way that doesnt cost anymore wear and tear on things, it was stated in the email that i copied and pasted directly NO profit.   I recomended that folks who have a copy have others send them blanks (includeing me but no one has asked me yet) to be burned and sent back.   i dont mind droping a few bucks in postage to get a few videos out to others and they inturn do the same. folks would rather not pay anything for it, which i understand, i did try to host it but the equipment just wasnt setup for it, nor the bandwidth.  eveyone here has a computer that can read the video, if they want a DVD ver then get it from kerry himself at what ever HIS price is, or convert it themselves. Intruth, it should be converted to .avi or Mpeg if they cant play WMV.  NO reauthering should be done, the work is free to copy and distribute, not to change the content in any way.

While these prices are FAR from unreasonable i dont think it needs to go that far. i dont think kerry wanted anyone burning up that many miles on thier burners just to pass on his video.

PS.  TB, you dont burn music CD's from your DVD burner do you? think i would leave that wear and tear to a standard CDrw drive and leave the VIdeo stuff soley to the DVDburner.

I have a better (i think) solution to share this video on DVD.

'client' sends a blank DVD + return stamps to burner by mail (client pays postage)
burner sends client a burnt DVD (burner uses received stamps to mail back)

mmm, how much is sending a DVD by mail again  :icon_confused: (maybe it doesn't add up)

I recon if someone was able to convert the video to DVD format (.vob and all that), and then create a torrent, or host it somewhere, then people would be able to download those files and burn it to dvd themselves.

Kerry's video pointed out the advantage of having the minimum thickness sized shim as a referance for when ordering new shims. Its little things like this wear a true DIY video gives you fantastic advice.

THANKS KERRY!  :thumb:

A quick question, how much do shims cost, and do dealers usually have them on hand?

I've heard of shims being as low as $6, but I paid $13 for mine. Yes, it was high, but the dealer also had it in stock, so I had no down time. I believe I was lucky, because the consensus seems to be that one usually must order shims and wait for them to come in at the dealers (which is another reason I'm not concerned about the dealer reaming me...I had mine in my hands and into my bike same day!  :icon_mrgreen:).

Burning cheerleading mixes only involves 1 or 2 copies, so the burner gets very little use.  If I start to offer Kerry's Valve Video on DVD, then I expect to get at least a dozen requests for it.   I tried to make it evident that  the $2-$3.something I plan to offer for a DVD is to cover the cost of the disc&case, with the balance going towards a new burner (which run ~$40).   If you crunch the numbers, then I would have to burn somewhere close to 50 dvds for my 'profit' to cover that cost.   I don't think this it out of the question.   I think its a fair way to mitigate the costs...... but....

.....If you would like buy a burner for yourself, then I will be very very happy to send you the DVD image and you can field all of the requests for the DVD and not have to charge anyone.

I think a DVD would  preferable to a computer media file to some.   If i'm wrong then noone will ask me for it and I wont' have to worry about buying DVDR's or wear and tear on the burner.

To answer your other question....the DVD/CD burner is the only burner I have on my main computer, so when I do mix music (which i haven't done in a while) I use it.    I use a DVD-ROM drive on that same computer for normal day-to-day stuff.

Anyways, see http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=24216.0 for my intentions on this matter

DVD Burners are only $35 bucks, why would you have a CD burner only anymore.  One DVD reader and one DVD burner and you're set.  Maybe in the past when DVD burners were expensive, you might have not used your DVD burner to burn CD's, but now days...it doesn't matter...
