Man i didnt realice that 100 cc was a lot of diference in a reace. Me and my friends hit the track the other day and he beat me each time we raced. some times i would have a better reaction time than he did, but in less than a second he was almost past me. Is their anyone here that has ever been able to beat another bike with their gs?
in the twisties, yes. on the track only if its real technical does a gs have a chance. its more about the rider though. a good rider on a 600 can spank a mediocre rider on a 1000 at the track (I've done it). I've also been spanked by guys on smaller bikes at the track too-its mostly rider. Although the cbr has a good 50+ HP advantage...but then again, so does a 1000 over a 600.
yes, they are mad fast:

you don't really know anything about bikes do you? its not just an exta 100cc that makes them faster. quickness is not soley based on engine size.
600cc super sports typicaly run about 100hp stock. the gs runs about 40. you figure it out.
hey pantablo, I'm pretty sure he's talking about a drag stip, considering how he mentioned reaction time.

you'll never beat a bigger bike at the strip...maybe if it wasn't a sportbike though
mello...I could stomp modern late 90's 600's and 750's on my 1986 FZ600. On top of rider being a huge part of the equation, having 4.1lbs per hp helps...
I used to think modern 600 supersports were fast, too...after spending time on 1000cc bikes I kinda dislike having to rev the piss out of them to get anything.

dont be lazy. I figured it out one day and its like ONE extra shift most places, street or track...
lol yea .. i gs500 can beat a 1000cc 1300cc 600cc in a drag strip any day of the week ......... if its braket racing :) thats the only way :) cuz all it is , is reaction time :) .
lol...or I could ride a twin and do all my around town cruising without having to leave 6th or pissing everybody off because 19,000rpm in second sounds a bit obnoxious, but 3rd lugs...:p
I used to ride 600's...I've just gotten to where I don't prefer their powerbands. Hell, even Gix 750's seem like I have to "spool up" to get what I'm used to.
its hayabusa time for you...
lol My TLS suffices...124rwhp, 82ft/lbs, almost 100lbs lighter and it handles better (imo) than then-era 600 supersports. I'm always considering one for a tourer, though...they'd make a badass tourer...
The GS won't have a chance to any real sport bike, it's not designed to.
On every board you'll find ppl who can smoke bikes w/ waaay more hp and the twisties are slower bikes salvation accoridng to many and so on.
Personally I don't find the GS is a fast bike, compared to different bikes or cars it's not built to go blasting by them. I do like it and it's great to learn on but I would never call it fast and I don't see the potential for it to be fast.
I know a good rider can outride a poor one but that's the rider, not the bikes. My buddy has an SV650 and we're very equal riders but that doesn't matter if we go at it because his bike smokes mine.
The GS is great of what it is, but to race a supersport and such don't bother. My plan is to gain the skills and experience on this bike and eventually move up and as I said the GS is great for what I want.

I guess we should have bought the EX500 instead!
I was at the Kawasaki dealer last night looking at a ZZR and a 650R and the salesman told me the EX makes like 75 hp. Don't know about that.
Maybe 56 hp.

:bs: This is no crime. He's smart enough to sign onto a forum and LEARN about bikes, which is in his favour! :thumb:
When I first started riding and joined GSTwin, I knew less than nothing about bikes. I've learned a lot from the good folks here, including the good, the bad, and the ugly. I've learned what NOT to do as well as what TO do, and I hope nick_villan does stick around and learn from folks here.
There's nothing wrong with exploring ALL sides and areas of riding. No, that doesn't mean I condone illegal stunting or drags, but it does mean I condone knowledge as power! Just because someone asks questions about things doesn't mean they're going to go out and become a donor. :thumb:

What? My GS is super fast. I can beat 900RR's any day of the week in snow even ... It's easy, When you get to about 6-7k shift up a gear, do this as quick as possible and you will win. Geez come on guys. haha
Actually, I get spanked by turtles.

I've noticed a few of you guys who have upgraded from GS500 to CBR's.
Why the change of manufacturer?
Is the GSXR-600 any good?
Everyone has a GSXR.
~on the other hand, most pissed off punk-cyclists ride CBR's...but I'd be pissed off, too, if I had to ride on one of their planks...
Who wants an aprilia RS250? I know where a US-legal one is for sale...
but is it mad fast????
84.7 rwhp and 275lbs wet...yeah, it's fast.
well see if nick wants it
I think the GSXR600 looks heaps better than the CBR600.
Comic book, Kung Foo Crazy actually!
then in saying that the R1 looks horn!
Do people have brand allegiance in bikes as they do in cars?
I'm not really brand specific...I'm actually usually most impressed with Yamaha's workings, but I prefer Suzukis. My only real requirement in a bike is that it have 2 cylinders...sometimes an odd 3 (triumph, Fueling, etc).

gsxr is a great bike but many prefer the cbr. Not as much brand loyalty as you'd expect. its the exception, not the norm. I bought my cbr because it fit perfectly and it was the bike most mags raved the most about its handling-and thats all I cared about, handling in the twisties/track. Very stable bike in corners. All the 600's are good; they all have their advantages. Personally I associate the gsxr with squids so I couldnt bear to buy one, even though its a fantastic bike.

I resemble that remark! D'oh. I dont know what people complain about. Yeah, its hard. so what. if you want to tour get a vfr. on the track I dont spend much time on the seat, at least not both butt cheeks at the same time.
:flipoff:
...that's soemthing I like about Suzukis...nice cushy seats on all the supersports...whether you spend a lot of time in it or not :flipoff:
sorry only buy suzukis or yamahas, the owner of the dealerhsips is my dads friend.
i'm honda for life when it comes to bikes :) these's guys know what there doing . when i raced motocross thats what i road CR125 and it held up good had the power i needed and so on . dont like how the cbr looks !! have you seen the new 06!? they have a brand newone setting at the new one here at the stealer ship solid black with the letters in red. ohhhh soooo fresh so clean :)
The new CBR's are just as ugly as the rest of the '06 600's. I don't know what Yamaha, Honda and Suzuki are thinking...but they're pretty ugly looking. Kawasaki, too...the new 10R looks "cushy" with the no wheel-gap look. I swear, the only asian liter bikes that look worth a shaZam! is the K6 GSXR 1000 and SV! Other than that you have to go to Europe...not to Ducati, though. Oh no...they had to ditch Tamburini and take on what has to be the ugliest Duc ever. Aprilia's still good, though.
I'd say something about Bimota and Cagiva and what not but what's to say? Duc/Aprilia frames with suzuki engines...well, not Bimota...they're just crazy...
I'd love to keep it in the fam, but I've been eyeing Yamahas and Hondas a lot more than GSX-Rs when it comes to the 600's. Call me crazy, but I like the R6 and CBR600 for sportbikes. But I love Suzuki, and there are some that I'd like, but that's just me.

or just as good looking. Although I have to agree, I dont know what the hell honda was thinking with the newest graphics on the cbrs, both 600/1000. not my taste. all the 600's look sexy to me...and Mak, I've seen your TL-you have no leg to stand on calling the bikes ugly...eye of beholder and all...

werd-new kwak 10r looks bad. would take previous model over new one any day-headshake and all.

werd2. old style 998 was the shaZam!. still is.
GS500 is mad slow. Actually, my car (2002 BMW ///M) is way faster than the bike in all categories.

There's a substantial difference: my TL project was never meant to look good to anyone (however, the next color scheme will probably catch more eyes).
The R6, GSXR 600 and ZX6 all look like late 80's/early 90's sportbike throw-backs with a few modern angles. Something real akin to the likes of the PT Cruiser. They're trying to hard to blend the frames in with the fairings and it all looks too busy...I'd happily take the previous generation over any of the new ones. At least Honda isn't buying into the retro bs with the CBR...I just don't really dig their style. However, if I were currently buying a supersport I4 600, the CBR is likely where I'd look.
I like the minimalism of the R6 fairings in comparison to those of the other Japanese sportbikes. The fairings are still there, just trimmed down a little.
Mak, the 80's/90's sport bikes had massive fairings that covered everything. The modern day bikes are the opposite IMO. they are minimal fairings and what IS there is broken down into component parts (design-wise). There's lots more of the engine you see now, and the tails all look ultralight and thin compared to early sportbikes. I mean, they all look the same insofar as they all have fairings, other than that I dont see any retro going on at all.
Just a bit more streamlined...but, like I said, they're blending the frames and fairings all together and we're losing the detail. Maybe I'm just too big a fan of exposed trellis structures...

I agree. The old tail sections were massive. Now they are thin with lots of wheel game. And the old fairings were bulbous at tall from wind screen to wheel, fairings that reached back to the rear sets. Now the fairing is minimalist, barely coverying the motor. I don't see any of those things in modern sport bikes, for the most part. The old 90's Gixxers look like Multistrada's compared to the '06's. I guess I just don't see the comparision.

When you look side-by-side, the Zuke has some of the most minimal fairings of the bunch. The ZX-6R's look the biggest. Speaking of which, I couldn't buy a Kawi because of the Ninja name. I hate talking about the squid thing and how squids like this bike or that gear, but that name just SCREAMS squid.

I sat on some bikes the other day at a stealership, and really liked the ergos of the F4i. But it was next to a 600RR (which was a little too agressive feeling for me) and the tail on the F4i just seemed huge next to the RR. The salesman was not happy that I didn't like the big butt on the F4i, and tried to make it seem like they were the same and I was just imagining it...retard. :icon_rolleyes:
