Ok I changed my oil today, Pretty damn easy once I got the right socket size.
but I used a drain pan from auto zone and when it was draining I thought that it was a lotttt of oil. Well, after I finished, I put the drained oil in a 1 gallon milk jug, but it was only about a quart of oil in the milk jug.... I had the stealership do my first service since it was the most important one, so this is my second, I dont think that I have a leak or anything, cuz I checked it over and there was nothing to raise suspition
So my question is, is it normal to loose that much oil, or did the dealership not put enough in there
Losing 2 out of 3 quarts is NOT normal. :o Between oil changes I usually lose less than the amount between the F and L marks on the dipstick. (I "top off" a time or two, but I don't pour much in at all each time.)
For a better estimation of the amount that drained out, pour the used oil into the empty bottles that the new oil came in. After 2 changes you can take the 6-quart case of used oil to an auto parts store for dumping. That way they know exactly what it is that you want to dump, and how much you've got.

well it was an estimation but it wasnt much more than a Quarter of a Gallon. "Hence a quart"

Uh... did you change the filter? There's a lot in there...
no i didnt i was told that it wasnt needed until the third change by the guy at the dealership
i replace everything every oild change. Still that compartment doesn't hold a quart of oil and even if it did one quart between changes is still a lot unless you have a really oil or neglected bike with piston ring problems. make sure that it is full but not over full on oil and monitor it. If it continues and the dealer just didn't f'up then it needs a little attention.

Good advice,
Thanks
Yeah, personally I change my oil *filter* every other oil change. I run synthetic and change it at every 3k.
Anyway, are you sure your measurements are right? They didn't sound very exact: "about a quart". Did you measure it? Sometimes what looks like "about a quart" could be more or less than you might expect.
Also, you did have the bike on it's center stand to change the oil right? And you run it for a while so the oil was warm and could come out easily before you opened the plug? :dunno_white:
edit: fixed :icon_razz:
this certainly aint a half gallon
and yes I had ridden for about an hour, then let it cool for about 30 minutes then changed it
According to mr Haynes.
you'll get :
2.6 Litres out in a normal oil change.
2.9 litres if you change the filter as well.
3.2 litres is if you take the engine apart.
So that's .3 litres in the oil filter.
Was the bike on the centre stand or side stand when you did drained the oil?
i did it on the center stand!!!
come on im not a complete noob. I EVEN FREAKING ROCKED THE BIKE TO GET AS MUCH shaZam! OUT AS POSSIBLE
i take it you did it on the side stand.
yea check your oil befor rides, the gs is known to burn oil, (air cooled) i dotn seem to burn any at all. really.
alph, thatguy, and others there at the gap were smoken good when they were on it hard, i am not sure about my self, that smoke is oil.
will this cause damage to my bike,
I sifted throught the sludge, but I didnt find much solid particles
I would estimate that you were about a quart low, considering that you didn't change the filter, and you wouldn't have gotten it all out of the drain pan. Be sure to check the oil regularly and monitor its level. Oh, and be sure and do it on the center stand next time, mmm'kay?
I DID HAVE IT ON THE CENTER STAND DAMMIT !!!!!!

uh, yeah.....sure ya did.. :icon_razz:
GOD DAMM IT IT WAS ON THE CENTER STAND!!!!!
DO I HAVE TO TAKE PICTURES NEXT TIME!!!!
My GS has never used any oil since I've owned it. But a few weeks ago the oil mysteriously dropped from the upper mark to the lower mark after about a half a tank of fuel. It hasn't done that since but I've heard other people complaining of the exact same thing. I'm thinking maybe the valve seals are leaking when the conditions are right.

I just wanted to document this little grammatical faux pas, cuz I know it drives Egaeus crazy! :flipoff: :icon_mrgreen:
Is it a misplaced modifier, Pandy
And i was just joking about being a complete noob, it takes a lot to hurt my little heart

Actually, it's a typo. Egaeus meant for "it's" to be a possessive (its) rather than a contraction (it's = it is)! :icon_razz:

It's funny, I was driving down the road and saw a big ass billboard. It caught my eye because it said:
"TadMC Does Not Change His Motorcycle Oil With The Bike On The Center Stand". Then it showed a picture of a n00b.

Well, since we're pointing out grammatical errors, how about a dropped word?
Phae.. how does changing your oil every other oil change work for ya?
Well, it works out really well that way. It's good for the environment.

I don't know what you're talking about. Why are you editing my posts to make it look like I would make an error, especially one that gets on my nerves as much as its/it's? :icon_mrgreen:
Have you ever noticed that I do go back and edit posts with errors? It makes me twitch when I make those stupid mistakes. It's funny though, because if you ever heard me speak, you'd wonder if you were talking to the same person.

Well, maybe if you fixed that Frida Kahlo eyebrow... :flipoff:
I've had this eyebrow for twentysix years now and have heard every joke in the book, but .. the Frida Kahlo reference made me laugh.
good one.
-- for those of you less informed Frida Kahlo was a famous Mexican Painter.
here is a self portrait. I believe this hangs in the New York museum of modern art.

Seriously: Comparing that Frida self protrait and yours up there is eerie. you sure she ain't your Grandmother?
shes mexican and I'm puerto Rican. So no. we are not KIN.
But maybe the unibrow gene comes from our Spanish ancestry..... Spain?
It's not just the unibrow. It's the glance, the stance, the whole demanor.
