If you have wobble at 170, try riding at 160, that should cure it!  :cookoo:

(does the math) 105mph. Nice. I'm guessing we are going to find out what the true top speed of our little GS is.

Ok just a guess here. But would tightening up the suspension help this or make it worse? And if its legal in his country to do 100mph. Who are we to discourage him :) Besides Texas just introduced 80mph speedlimits on two of its interstates. So our Texan GS'ers are probaly going to be dancing with higher speeds as well.

And as for the speed being a bigger rush. Whats the actual speedlimit?

100km (60mph) is some rare places 110km (66mph)

but i take it as more of a recommendation then a law like if a corner says 80 u can do 120 if it says 60 u can do 110 if it say 40 u can do 70 if it says 30 u can do like 45 b4 stuff starts goin fun bags up

any who how do i fix the shaking

if your getting wobble maybe your wheels are not balanced. Make sure your tires are in good condition and have proper air. Is your suspension properly tuned? Check all those things. Also remember at your max speed your prob gonna get some wobble anyway since your pushing the bike to the limit. My old 93 pontiac grand am coupe had a 4cy engine. Speedometer read up to 110mph, fastest i got it was like 105, when i hit speeds at 95+ the car would start to feel shaky. I belive it's similar to your prob with the bike. Your just pushing to its max limit.

yeah your brake pads and/or rotors could be shot. doing burnouts huh, you kinda forgot to mention that :nono:. you doin wheelies too? if so your prob bending those rims up nicely.

Deathlucky? (BTW that S/N is in very bad taste given recent events). The GS5 was not designed as a high performance sports bike, at those speeds its at its limits so you cant realisticaly expect it to perform like an R6 or something similar.

Get a new bike.  And plenty of life insurance.

get a steering dampener.
http://www.gs500e.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=106&highlight=damper
should fix your issues, or you gould get heavier bar ends that sorts a bit of the vibrations

I'd say either your wheels or your rotors are out of balance.  I have no wobble at 105 MPH indicated, so there is something wrong.  Either balance your wheels if you have the ability to do so, or take them off and bring them somewhere to be balanced.

ive wondered myself what the full speed potential of the naked GS is. ive tried to find out, but i only got to 10k rpm (1k short of redline).

Thanks for pointing that out captian obvious.  maybe if you'd had a look at my location you'd see that I'm from Australia as well.  :flipoff:

Anyhow the GS isn't a highspeed bullet, I'd reccomend that get your suspension sorted out and find some good winding road, or a race track. Steering the bike through a set of twisties can be better than sex (sometimes)

my 92 gs wobbles bad around 115mph...

i believe it is due to the lack of aerodynamics... it used to be fine at the same speeds before i took off the F-15 windscreen...

I dont know if you can get one for for the gs500 but a stearing damper would work. All my buddies with their gsx-r have them.

Now for the big question do you have a handle bar mounted screen on your GS chances are if you do its not centred proply I had the same problem with mine and one weekend before a long trip I spent a good 1/2 hour just getting it centred right after that I had no problems but after a while it begins to creep back so I have to adjust it again failing that have you had tyres replaced latley your front wheel might be out of balance but would probably notice that at a lower speed like 120 or so also if the sign says 40-45 you should be at about 85-95 depending  but then again I have good suspension :thumb:

how many miles on the bike? Have the stearing head bolt torque checked. Maybe some bearing wear in the headset too.

i experienced the same thing on mine when i was hitting it down Conrod Straight at Mt Panorama (race track out west of Sydney for those overseas)  :icon_mrgreen:

i hit 175km's and the front end was a little light/wobbly... i've rotated the rear shock to "7" and when i'm heading that quick i tend to be more forward on the bike (kinda like when you're dirt-squirtin) and there's no wobbles.... i've had mine up to 185km's without any dramas now (with 15t sprocket) and a mate's had his up to 205km's. Was varified with another guy on a VTR1000 - apparently took a while but...  :icon_mrgreen:

84 I have a question for you. What track do you ride around here Hallet? Next how are you getting 115mph out of a 92? I just finished my carbs this weekend and the bike is smooth all the way to redline and pulls great but in 6th gear between 80 and 90 she runs the float bowls dry I want to be able to run the turnpike without having to lay down on the tank and have the bike on the ragged edge of dry floats in 5th gear. Have you changed out the factory fuel valve? If so what did you use?

Thanks

When you're on the highway, is the petcock set to On or Pri?  Try setting it to Pri next time you need to cruise at high speed for extended periods of time and that should fix your fuel starvation issues.

:nono:  :nono: Mate that is silly, 1) it's a 60 zone and 2) the coppers sit up there fair bit waiting for ppl to give it a bit down conrod.

on my 05 i cannot get over 117, ive hit it once, and not since.  I keep hittin 115, sometime, goin against the wind, i hate it, i cant get over 105, lol...  i dont top it out much, i only have like 5 or 6 times since i bought it, i test rode a brand new gsxr 600, had it at 136 with a couple grand in 3rd gear left,   WHAT A RUSH!!!!  the COMPLETELY open rode.. to let you know, i hit it and wuickly got down, just wanted to get over 130...  first time ever, i hit 126 in my 2000 GAGT, just wanted to feel the speed, i hit about 129 skydiving, so this was my new fastest!!

With stock front end with Race tech inside...  115 You also have to do the math if you have lowered your bike in the front it takes away some of the top speed...  you know that 1" drop...  to make it turn in quicker..  if you have done that it reduces top speed... With the gixxer front end on my bike its solid above 120 Takes it right to red at 12k Oh  mine goes to 12 cus i did the cams springs and shim under bucket.  A damper would slow the forks down but you got to watch it cus if its doing it all of a sudden your bike won't wiggle and it will just buck you right off I have seen it on the old races... the bike just does one wiggle and boom your gone..
