Found some cheap case guards for sale. They look exactly the same as Suzuki OEM, but they are made by the company selling them (MC Enterprises). No idea how well they're made or anything, but perhaps someone here has ordered them and can fill us in.
They're on "blowout" sale for $40 plus shipping, part# 1000-90, 58 in stock. Website is http://www.mcenterprisesusa.com (http://www.mcenterprisesusa.com). I'm considering these over the Motech ones, since the price is so much better.

exact is an understatement.........
Just to make sure, those will fit a k1, 2001 model? It says GS500e, but i just wanted to check, thanks!
2001 is the same as 'e' (89-00) models in regard this case guard.

Yeah I thought the same thing. I emailed to double check, and was told that they're not manufactured by Suzuki.

They'll fit ANY naked GS500, including F models with the fairing removed.
Fantastic, thanks for the heads-up Sanjay!!
Sweet.. someone let us know how they are! I love my SW-Motech guards!

Indeed. I checked with them and they have 58 in stock, but no plans to make more.
Has anybody tried this?
I bought them, 46.50 shipped is a frickin steal.
These are identical to the suzuki factory gaurds, the bolts are even the same. The only thing is the directions are wrong.
They tell you to use the 10" bolt up top, when you need to use the 11" bolt, for the lower mount you use the 10" bolt, but skip the lock washer or you can never get the threads to go into the nylon portion of the lock nut
Good looking product, and prompt delivery made me a very happy man
Do we need to purchase new bolts? or do they come with the kit?
I'd send an email to the company and ask. I'm 99.9% sure they'd come with the bolts.. cuz finding aftermarket bolts that are the right strength and the right length would be almost impossible.
They come with the bolts
Thanks, coll0412.
I am still thinking which one I buy for my GS - SWMotech or this.
These look like a great deal.. but I LOVE my sw-motechs.
Just gotta say this work great, I unfortunately got to test them out and for $40.00+shipping they are awesome. They still have like 50 in stock so just giving oyu a heads up, because I just ordered 2 sets
anybody know if these will work with a chin spoiler? :dunno_white:
Just wanted to bring an old thread back to life. ZOMBIE THREAD, ZOMG!!!!1

These case guards are still for sale, and it sounds like they have quite a few left in stock. $47 (shipped) for a great set of case guards, folks! The company MC Enterprises seems like a great group of people, too. I ordered mine at 6:00 PM central time and he said they'd be shipped by 9:00 AM tomorrow.
Thanks again to my own personal hero, sanjay, for the heads up on a great deal!
-Turd.
Nahh its cool, they worked so damn good when I crashed a few weeks ago that I ordered 2 more sets :icon_mrgreen:
bolt to the frame or engine?

bolt to the frame or engine?
They bolt to the frame using two of the engine mounting bolts. So, both, I guess?

I'm thinking of getting an extra set, just in case. :o They're so cheap, it seems worthwhile before they run out, and they'll be easy to sell later if I gotta get rid of them.

Anytime, Turd. Anytime.
so lol cut a whole in the fairing and bam they fit or jsut remove them to.... join the dark side :icon_twisted:
no but to get real here for a sec i would like to mount some foot pegs on the bars to help with the long trip on the interstates and what not
That'd be a major hole. I would go with frame sliders if you want to keep the fairings and case guards if you want to remove them (definitely remove!).
You could probably mount some pegs on them, though it would look kinda weird. Or, you could mount highway pegs WITH the fairing... now that would be HOT.
yea i figured as much.. any pictures with them installed that would be great.
yea i don't care about the looks of the peg on the bars, its just something i want to help stretch out on some of my 200-250 mile leg trips (or what ever the tank will get me) i am getting another seat off ebay and having it re covered after i add a back rest with a luggage rack
I found that the guard seems to interfere with the engine on the right side. In other words, it doesn't slide into place nicely; I'd have to force it or grind down the mounting tab. Any suggestions or similar experiences?
I didn't have that problem, and I haven't heard of anyone else having it. Perhaps there's something wrong with yours? Do you have any pictures?
My Srinath case guards didn't slide into place, I used big washers as spacers to get the bars out past the actual cases anyway, so the guards would do their job. Suzuki's tolerances on the GS are so crappy, you can't blame aftermarket companies for not having perfect fit across all the examples of the GS across the world.
I don't know if the mentioned guards have enough space on the new engine bolts to use spacers like I did, but if they did, that's a good solution. Otherwise, grind down the case guards to make them fit the bike, not the bike to fit the guards.
I don't have any photos (I can obtain these if required). Please look at the sketch to better understand the problem and verify that I'm installing these correctly (location of slotted tabs etc.)

Thanks.
I have used 3 sets of the gaurds over the race season( yeah I crash alot) and all have fit for me wonderfully.
I will take a look when I get home and try and figure out your issue
Awesome! It would be great if you could post a couple of photos (please)
do you need to turn em around and put em on opposite sides?
Any one have a suggestion on what are good sliders to install on an F model? Id like to get these, but I dont think I want to cut that big of a hole in my fairings.
search "frame sliders".. you'll find all you need to know.
You have the direction right, but there is only about .030" between the engine and case gaurd, you may have to file down the tab of the casegaurd to get it to fit.
Thanks, that's exactly what I meant. I had hoped I wouldn't have to grind down a brand new case guard, but oh well...
Thanks for looking.
Don't forget to touch up the place where you ground it down with some paint to prevent it from rusting on you.
How much do you need to grind it down?
I just saw this tread and called and ordered a set and they still have 40 sets in stock
i called and ordered a set today, they were very nice said they be sent out today, they have plenty left the lady said, $47 shipped to az
I have the identical OEM case guards, and crashed on them twice.
The previous owner totaled the bike, and one of the guards broke its mount, but saved the engine (which is happily roaring along today).
Ok, well I finally got the tab ground down and am ready to install. The bolts seem to be of marginally smaller diameter than the stock bolts. What torque settings did you use when installing (the OEM bolts are 60 - 72 Nm)?
thanks.
bump. Can anyone who's installed the MC Enterprises case guards help out with torque settings, please?
thanks.
If I want to install these case guards on my 04 without removing fairings I'll have to driil 2 holes in each fairing, right?
Ordered mine on friday... can't wait till they arrive!

i'm thinking it would be more like cut the bottom half of it off   frame sliders would work better for fairings but damn their expensive :o
Bolted mine up last weekend, great fit! I can't say I look forward to using them.

This advice is definitely correct - I found that the upper motor mount was wider and needed the 11" bolt, definitely won't work with the 10" bolt...however, the lower motor mount seems to be a little short with the 10" too. I'm wondering, should I go washerless on the bottom motor mount? It seems to be the only way, although I think it would be an extremely bad idea. Anyone else have problems getting enough slack on the bottom rod to screw the nut on? Going to try this again tomorrow morning in the daylight.
like the suzuki ones...
if i remember correctly....
use the stock upper bolt on the bottom and use the longer aftermarket bolt on the top.

yep, this worked. Now, would people recommend locktite blue (removable) on these bolts? I called MC enterprises about the torque specs, they recommend 35-45 lb-ft or 47-61 N-m. Actually, the guy just said "35-45 lb", and even upon asking "do you mean lb-ft" he still just said "no, they measure it in lb"... whatever.
so...locktite blue? anyone use it on engine mounting bolts? seem like a good idea? especially for that bottom one that I couldn't use the nylon-ended nut with because I was using the stock bolt?
I don't think locktite blue would pose any problems. I'll probably use it on my case guards. I'm glad ya'll brought this thread back up. I've been wondering if case guards were available fo the GS. I ordered mine this morning.
My bike is a 2004 model, but the main bottom of my fairing is busted due to my 350lb son bottoming the suspension and dragging the fairing over the sidewalk. So I was planning to cut the lower part off, making them 3/4 fairings anyway.
The case guards will just give me an excuse to do it sooner.
hnh
I torqued the Suzuki bolt to 60 N-m (per spec). The MC bolt only got 30 ft-lb (which was the value they recommended to me), but I also used two lock nuts and the nylon insert nut. I did not use any Loctite. Seems to be working fine for me so far.
Just ordered a set...thanx
yes this works...just did it...

I sent a couple mails to MCEnterprises last week about these case guards and shipping costs to my place, but got no reply at all unfortunately. :(
Anybody else tried to contact them lately?
Thanks! :icon_mrgreen:
Not lately, but when I emailed them it took almost a week.Put in subject line,Part Needed ASAP-Please Help.Worked for me on the 2nd email.Got a return email the next day.
yup or feighned anger
well I just called and ordered a set.
Just recieved my set of case guards and I was told that, if my memory serves me correctly, that as of this past Monday they had 22 pairs left. Now, let's see if I can get them installed. Oh, $47.35 total to Monroe, NC.
I ordered mine the Thursday before last and got them the following Tuesday. Great customer service, very friendly. Cost $48 and some change after shipping to the Los Angeles area. MC Enterprises is located in Oxnard, CA only 2-3 hours north of here. On the website they recommend calling directly to order the case guards. Simon79, I think you should try that instead of e-mailing. They'll help you right away though they may not be able to give you the exact shipping cost until after they send it out but they may be able to give you an estimate. Good luck

Their phone number: 866.886.2368
Thanks for the suggestions, I'd prefer E-mail though, because I'm afraid that a direct phone call would be a bit of a problem for me...ya know, language barrier :icon_rolleyes:
I haven't been speaking English for more than one year, there's a thick rusty layer on my foreign language speaking skills
Thanks a lot anyway, I'll try to figure out a solution, I must say I'm not in dire need of a set of guards :thumb:

By the way your messages on this forum come out I'd say you speak more proper and refined English than a lot of native speakers. Just give a phone call a try. What's the worst that can happen?

Bolted on with no prob. Of course the bolts did have to be reversed and the bottom lock washer was left off by necessity.
Called yesterday got a set on the way. 8) $40+ship to ATL
Just ordered a set via phone 07/03; super nice people. After my set goes out today, they will have 12 sets left in stock, so you might want to jump on them soon...
I think I just ordered the last set!! :D

Noooooooooooo!!!
;)
I can make you one.
The small design changes are ...
Its more of a slider than a guard.
It will fit only with cutting a hole in a F's fairing.
I am hard at work (read doing nothing) on a true case guard design.
I can make sliders if someone wants, and I can make small numbers too. Figure ~40 bucks for one and shipping.
Cool.
Buddha.
