does anybody make cams, pistons or rods or anything of that nature?
Theres 555cc Gs's . it can be done , but at cost
Do a search here or ask dgyver. He has alot more than a 555.
The 555 uses 79mm pistons and they are not made anymore, 92 was the last year. 79mm is the largest you can bore the stock sleeves and they do get thin. I built a 555 several years ago, took awhile to acquire 2 pistons. I have obtained a 3rd and still looking for a 4th. In the meantime I got hold of a set of 80's which requires replacing the sleeves, which is an option. Not sure of the largest possible but 85mm have been done.
The next best is 78mm pistons. Here is the info: http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=14401.0 (http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=14401.0)
Dang, I did not realize I posted that 2-1/2 years ago.
Megacycle reworks stock cams. Somewhere around $260. There is another company doing the same but I do not recall there name.
I wonder what the torque difference is between a 500 and a 555 cc ?

I wish I had done a dyno run before selling my 555, finacial reason prevented it. Things have changed so I eventually will do a run with my current and future builds.
fyi... the GS is actually a 487cc with 74mm pistons. Factory +1mm pistons (75mm) would be 500cc.
Mhmmm , Might look into this! , proper streetracer
JAY!!!!! go all out, turn that beast into a 643 :icon_twisted: then when ya get stateside maybe you can hang with the 650r I'm buyin :icon_twisted:
OT: I went to a dealer today to browse and the guy tried to sell me a 1000rr repsol  I asked if they could write a life insurance policy too
Where are you getting building a 643 from?
I was telling Jay_wolf that if he's gonna bore his engine out he should go all the way :thumb:
Not what I asked.
85mm is 642cc, close but not 643.
OK 642, sorry, I've been drinking and taking percocet :o  I'm a little tore up   god I cant wait till these stupid pins come out and I can use my left hand again. It's makes double fisting beers so much easier
But... For the cost, the time, the fabrication, the work, the worry.....
Couldn't you just get a faster bike? I mean, I love my GS, but wouldn't it be just as easy to buy a 90s 600 or 650 and make it a Streetfighter?
Indeed , but due to stupid laws , even if i want a biker bike , im gonna have to wait about 3/4 years for insuance to get ok , i mean , i asked bout gsxr 600 , and they laughed in my face , having a 642 cc gs would be such a killing machine :P , plus im gonna use the bike as a CV for my work on it , for motorbike shops in london , 2 get a new job , D, how would i go about sourcing the Stuff for a 642? :thumb:

Get a 2nd & 3rd job to pay for the parts that you would have to fabricate and replace, especiallly the broken cranks. To make it effective you would be best to do a 4-valve head swap as well. I will not go into the details on that unless someone is serious about spending the money and all the time required for the fabrication. Read the article about Cedric's CSXR. Heck, people whine about the $300-400 cost of installing the 78mm pistons for the 541. The only way to do something cheap is to slowly acquire parts at a good price when they become available, this may take several years. Most of the work would be on your part of would you could find to fit and what you would need to fabricate. There is not a single source for this information.
your making the 541 sound good , im willing to pay for the costs for that , not a problem , so i read your post on it , so id need a machinest , to mill the heads , and fit the new Pistons ? i want my gs to be the Badest Gs on british soil , :thumb:
i love the male ego.
hey...who was it that said. " I know when racing started...right after the second car rolled off the production line"

Just boring the cylinders to fit the pistons is the minimum required. Some additional gain is possible with milling the head.
Ill speak to the machinist today , and see what he recons he would charge , thanks D :thumb:
Way back in the beginning of time (gs time:-), V & H built up a 555cc Wiseco piston GS500 that was covered in the Aug 89 Cycle World. They installed about $1250 (retail price) worth of parts and the result was a GS500 with EX500 performance. Now in 2007, the Ninja 500 aka EX500 MSRP is even less than that of the plastic coated GS500 MSRP.
Think I'd just change my name to exJack if I sought that rather modest level of performance increase. :thumb:
Quarter mile and top speed figures were given but no dyno traces shown. HP and Torqued were reported to be about 10% greater than stock on the V & H GS500:

jay
go 2 t down on the CS sprocket(about 20-25 bucks before you spend stupid $...# whatever that you will never get back out of the bike
FYI....just Jim's swingarm and wheels cost bout $13,000
would you buy a GS for 13k?
also pistons can be made on special order....I think you have to purchase 4 min.
lol , im pleased with a 4.5 inch wheel , hmm a 14 tooth , might look into that , i still have the stock 16 , i want a 15 ideally
the 14 is more silly..... :icon_mrgreen: it will pull thru the gears much quicker and only drop top speed by about 5mph
Aha Perfect :thumb: hahaha
it says the 555cc bore kit uses a 78mm piston thats incorrect
it shold use a 79 and it also says it tops out at 121
last week i went 120 in mine and let off because of front end shake
i think those stats are inccorect
it should go about 130+ the quarter mile times look about right
but i think after head work and cams it should go pretty quick
You can buy a Bore kit? where from ?
well the bore kit is for a 4 cylinder bike ( thats wat i messaged you about earlier)
so its twice the shaZam! and price
so if anyone wants to split the price and the parts then that should be good
i cant find single pistons only a 650 buck kit for a 1100
jay
i think V&H still lists the kit.....they sold the last one in the early 90's
convince somebody here to go halves on a set of 4 custom cosworth/venolia/wiseco/.... pistons
sleeves are cheap
with cubic $ you can do anything
bigger pistons are not the end all cure all.
also need an exhaust
also a ported/milled head
also a reground cam
also a nice set of flatslides/roundslides
lee spent around 11-12k on building blown up engines i think the biggest was a 628
and sold the lot for.....2800
get a friggin rgv or RS 250 since you can....2 strokes will easily pull 60-75 hp and 100# lighter
with better susp
or deal with the turd that you have
make it handle so you can hang in the corners
you will NEVER hang on the straights with anything you do to it
Ive got a Straight Thro Nexxus ., Progressive are one the way for my GSx front End , and I have A Hagon Rear , And im getting A 4.5 inch Wheel And 160. *Thats already order , It will defo handle , Englands Full of Twisty Roads
And in my opinion , The Gs is a perfect Streetfighter , No Sticky Out Rad , And lovely Shape
