Hey what up? I just put a new yoshimura trs pipe on my 500 but it still seems really quiet. Is that just the design of it ar are these bikes really quiet. Also there was this "exhaust packing" material in the original midpipe. just before where i had to cut the old thing off. I'm guessing this has a lot to do qith quieting the sound. Will there be any negative side effects if thi sound deadening material where to be taken out of the pipe.?
A K and N lunchbox , adds quite a Growl
Rev it up to 8000+ rpms under load, then it will make some sweet noise :icon_mrgreen:
it just seems like i can't even hear it when im cruizing down the road. Has anybody else enconuntered this sound deadening material in the stock exhaust right under the rear of the engine?
It's a cat...meow...2004+ GS500s had one.
I had holes in my 89's muffler, and at cruising speed I could NEVER hear that thing running. I think honestly its just the nature of the beast.
It's never going to scream like an R6 if that's what you're looking for. It will make a nice lumpy n loud sound with a K&N plus a V&H FULL exhaust, but never scream.
Does your aftermarket can a open exhaust, or is it dampened ?
Did you remove the 'packing' from the mid pipe ?
Have you changed the air box to something like a K&N yet ?
Have you rejetted yet ? (This is something you really want to do)
The easier it is for your gs to breath the louder it will get, but not necessarily more powerfull. I usually wear earplugs if I'm going more than 45 minutes on mine. Mine has a K&N + V&H open exhaust. It's obnoxiously loud when you rev it, but can't "scream" like a 4 cylinder, it just doesn't rev that high.
O0
Enjoy the quietness, my V&H hangs on a shelf in the garage.

:dunno_white:
after i get some time in on my 2006 gs500f i'll change my pipe up as well any suggestions
I like my Jardine on my 05 GS500F :thumb:
Ive had a Nexxus , it Growled , and Now i have a Predator Exhaust , It Roars!
Wide open V&H SSS pipe..........of course that's on 4 cylinders. It screams though, It'll scare the holy crap out of you when you let it out to about 12k+
Did you already remove the baffle? There's a small screw on the underside of the exit pipe, behind the muffler. I'm not near my bike or I'd take a picture. If you unscrew this you can remove the baffle that ships inside the TRS can. I haven't tried it myself, but it'll probably help.

The midpipe should be wide open so the bike can breath. Pull that crap out!
Can someone post a link for the K&N box I would need for a 93? And also where is the air box located?

First, the airbox. It is located between the carburetors and the battery box. Here is one view ... of the air filter opening:

Here is another view, which labels just about everything BUT the airbox. (It takes up most of the central portion of the diagram.)

=========================================
Now for your first question. You asked about a "K&N box" ... are you looking for a drop-in filter (that replaces the Suzuki paper filter in the airbox) ... or for a totally different "lunchbox filter" that covers the carburetor intakes
in place of the stock airbox? In the first case, check out [
THIS PAGE (http://www.bbburma.net/K&N_AirFilter.htm)]. In the second case, someone else will have to take over from here.... (http://bbburma.net/Smilies/dunno_black.gif)
Im looking for something that will add a tad more power and something just overall better for the bike.
The lunchbox gives it a lovely Growl , i was very very impressed , being mine cost me 100 bucks *50 pounds* off ebay
I agree, the growl from a lunch box K&N RU-2970 was spectacular.
And they work!!! They let in so much more air into my bikes engine that it couldn't run past 6,000rpm, so rejetting is a must!!! :icon_mrgreen:
the stock airbox is restrictive.
k & n = more grunt
V & H = loud
together = obnoxiously so ;)
ok....cool. thanks. Here is the bike....

I have holes around the end of my muffler inside the end of it. Sounds like a hi po scooter. I also had a couple of questions,
1. What size jetts do you use with the filters and pipe?
2. If just a pipe do you need to jett it.
3. I am mking mt own exaust ,will post pics soon as I get started under Super GS500.
4. Does the 98 have that packing stuff?
For info on jetting.... start here in the Wicki

I removed the baffle inside of the stock midpipe... It definetly helped!
and how do you do that?
With a drill hehe Oh also just wondering has anyone tried using a set of headers and a slip-on. Just wondering if there was anything out there that would work with my trs slip-on because i love the sound of my exhaust with the baffle removed now.

+1 for both sentences.
About how much is it to rejet? And is it hard?
cost me $60 (Australian) to rejet ($10 for each jet)
Easy once you can remove the float bowls screws
Hmm...ok
Rejet is pretty easy. If you have a small mirror and some patience ( along with a good set of short screwdrivers) you can re-jet without yanking the carbs off.
There's got to be a couple dozen 'tutorials' on the subject buried in this forum, just search a little.
