Post by: frankieG on April 07, 2008, 12:42:49 PM
i think this is true but have not done it myself yet so i thought i would check with you guys first.  can you go to a local lock shop and get a key cut that will fit all 3 of ignition, fuel cap and seat lock?  thanks guys

You can get 1 key that has one pattern on one 1/2 and another on the other 1/2. I call it a half and half.
Not possible for a 3 way though.
Cool.

so i would need a separate key for the ignition and the gas cap?  my spare is at my mothers in Maine which is an 8 hour drive away, plus crossing the boarder, so i am being proactive because of the "what if" factor

Do all 3 match? If so. YES your dealer should be able to cut you a key that fits em all... If any are different, then you will be totin 3 keys  :icon_mrgreen:

the dealership here in Fredericton does not cut keys.  i am going to a local lock place to get it done.  i will ride the bike there so i can test the keys.  i have used the same place about ten years ago on my 1980 Honda CB900 and it worked for all 3.  so i am hoping the same will be available on my gsf

all 15 of mine do. maybe i misunderstood. my ignition, seat, and gas are all accessible with the same key, all 15 copies i have :)

the locksmith cut 13 of them, just to be safe and lucky ;)

make sure they wire brush the hell out of the copies. if they aren't brushed, they tend to hang: new sharp key into old worn locks. :)

finding blanks was the hard part. after i found a smith with a couple dozen blanks, and had a few cut. :)

The local pop a lock guy cut a key for me for five bucks. Took five minutes standing in the stealership parking lot while they were servicing the bike. It worked better than my regular key!

mine only has 1 key that fit them all... I think you need to reset your keylocks to your key that way your single key will work on all theree keyholes...
