It won't increase power but if you want to be faster off the line you could get a smaller front sprocket.  Don't quote me on it but I believe Buddha has said that you get better power out of the stock header pipe with a slip on than you do with the current aftermarket exhausts.  You may want to check with him on that one.

Its been said before:
If you want a GS to really GO, modify it by swapping everything except the fuel cap with parts off a 4 cylinder sportbike.

Cubic inch displacement I'm assuming.

What is funny now that I think about it is that bikes don't have CID, they are CC?!  lmao
Title: Re: Power!!!
Post by: gsJack on February 10, 2010, 10:27:18 AM
CID or CC can apply to any bike engine, just different units of measurement.  A Savage 650 with a 650cc engine is now called a Boulevard S40 referring to it's  40 cid engine.  40 cid equals 650 cc approx.  The US does it their way and the rest of the world does it the right way.   :icon_lol: :icon_lol: :icon_lol:

Post by: dauphinc on February 10, 2010, 10:37:13 AM
They're all units of measurement for displacement. Just metric and standard. Harleys being domestic have CID, everyone else has CC's.

My Harley buddy standing right behind me has a 1340 CC Elictric Glide Harley?!  The Harley Sportser is a 1200 CC, etc...........

Everyone does CC, yet some Harleys are CID.  CC is more common to any bike!

In that case it's all about marketing to the Harley wannabe crowd. Harley riders thrive on originality  :icon_rolleyes:

The Boulevard range uses CID.... C50 M50, C90 M90 and C109 M109 - C standing for Classic and M for Modern. Essentially the same bike but the Classic has boards not pegs and an exposed front headlight, while the modern has pegs and a small cowl over the front headlight. There are some other small differences to Sleek up the modern.

The CID of them is... 50 = 800cc, 90 = 1500cc and 109 is 1800cc - roughly, of course, as most bikes bump their number Up (Except the Honda CB900 which has actually 919cc).

Yeah... if you want a more powerful GS500, get something with more power to begin with (GSR6, SV650, etc.) and put GS500 stickers on it.  :thumb:

WHAT DO R AND T STAND FOR!?

and i go by cc. cause everyone else does pretty much. ci is for cars. or liters for muscle cars. but bikes, cc come on.  and dont use the D and the end. thats just nerdy.

AGAIN, WHAT IS THE R AND T FOR?!
Title: Re: Power!!!
Post by: BaltimoreGS on February 11, 2010, 09:39:38 AM
And for the metric-ly challenged Americans, 1,000 cc = 1 liter.  So our bikes are .5 liter (technically .487 liter).

What is R & T?

Re-read the first post with them in it.... Rocket.... Turbo

Want a faster GS, you either need R or T

See. Makes sense now, right?

But this is all straight line speed. What about cornering speed?

I think for additional cornering speed, maybe something like a Batmobile Grappling Hook GH). It shoots out, wraps around a tree or something, stops the centripetal force flinging you out, then magically retracts back into the bike in readiness for the next corner.

And after the R or T, you need to upgrade the B.

So add an R or T, upgrade the B and install a GH and you too can impress your unknowing friends with jargon use  :thumb:

In answer to the original question: how much of a difference will I feel if...

Well, truth be told,... not much. You can throw a ton of money at it, and the difference will still be... not much.

The R is still in the lead!
As far as power goes..umm..air cooled carburetion..yeahhhhh...have fun getting out much power. Get a busa if you want power. The gs is just a fun, modifiable, easy to throw around in the curves bike to me. To each his own i suppose.

A pipe, K&N, and jets will give you a few more HP and will sound a lot better.  The best way to add power is to bore it out and install bigger pistons, but it's somewhat expensive and not very easy.  If you want significantly more power than you have now you're better off buying a different bike as others have said.

Dave Johnson has a thread on this site about road racing his GS 500.  He says adding more than about 10 HP to the GS "costs a Subaru".

All true but there is the psychological effect of an aftermarket exhaust that makes the bike "feel" faster   ;)

wait, rocket and turbo were the serious answer?  :dunno_white:  lol i thought that was just a joke. well seeing as how a rocket wouldnt actually increase engine power, it would just be a seperate supply of power, i gotta vote turbo!  :flipoff:

you actually want to increase centripetal force to stay in the curve, which is done by increasing friction. lol

The only true way to increase the power of the GS is to first buy the model that had the Magic installed.

Then, on the third full moon after the Summer Solstice, take it to a newly harvested field, set a ring of agates around it. Then recite the 2nd paragraph of the 51 verse of The Book of Molich as kept by custodial methods by the keepers of the ancient scrolls of Molex.

Then, on the 2nd Monday of the third month post the Solstice event, apply a GSXR sticker to the bike. And as you do proclaim loudly, "Let the have more power". And finish with... "make it so".

See? You give people the solution they ask for and you get mocked  :dunno_white:

I don't read or watch Merlin. Never seen or read Any Harry Potter or The Craft. And it's been yonks since I've seen Willow. Have you given some thought that maybe what I said it actually The only true way to get more power out of a GS?

Of course, it's not the Only way. You can skip all the incantation stuff and just stick on the GSXR sticker for loads more power. But if you only need it occasionally - like when overtaking - then all you need to do is Think "GSXR" and presto!  :thumb:
