Salt Water crocs take more people than any other thing, apparently. We got those suckers in Australia. World's deadliest snakes, spiders, and other stuff.

I went to Australia to play rugby. I was blown away by the fact that every game we played first involved chasing the wild kangaroos off the field!

I went there many times in the late 70s as a teen working for a shipping company loading/unloading containers, and didn't see a damned thing but the port of Brisbane -------I take that back, I saw some pubs.

There is no disturbance of the water around the photoshop'd croc.

That's pretty obvious, even without looking at the water you can see the photographic contrast between the croc and the rest of the picture. Same with the croc being fed from the boat, if that were real those people would be voted most likely to receive the years Darwin award.

The first one I concluded because of the obvious discrepancies in the photo, the second was arrived at by how absolutely insane that is. Not so much for the tourists but for the guide that's doing the feeding. Seems to me that croc will eventually figure out there is more meat to be had at the other end of what he is being handed.

You might also notice that the particular croc also has a missing limb so being hand fed is a bonus to it.
Crocs here can actually be trained to appreciate humans to the point of being quite amazingly friendly.

The smaller crocs can just about clear the water when they leap out.

I'm at work. I've had a headache for the last six hours and it's getting border-migraine stage. I ask a coworker if he has any paracetamol. He tells me to drink a cup of HTFU. I tell him I just did and am waiting for it to kick in.

Other coworker says he can no longer operate the impact driver cause of his arthritis. He is ignored by some altogether. Others say, "if you don't like it you can always go home."

Other coworkers breaks his thumb and mentions how sore it feels. We give him odd looks so he shuts up and continues working. At the end of the shift after more complaining we call him fluffy and offer to take him to the hospital. Yup, broken thumb alright.

it would be nice to have politicians that represent their electorate, not a party, but we know that is not going to happen on either side.  what would be preferable is a party that does not have to compromise everything to appease a few fools in order to cling to office.  even better a bunch pf politicians with some morals and ethics, but that is an oxymoron.

Won't happen. The very nature of a person who seeks power over others dictates they will likewise bend down to those behind the scene power-mongers who Really control said office, while simultaneously screwing over those plebs who voted them in to office.

The only politician I can think of who shows integrity is Ron Paul. BUT, it is that integrity which means he will never be given the thumbs up by the behind the scenes power-mongers and so will never achieve the higher office.

Right? I'm lost on that wording...

Also, this thread is the first time I've ever heard anything about Aussie politics... its interesting that it sounds so familar... I always thought of Australian politics similar to Canadian politics... no one knows who is the prime minister of Canada (most Canadians can't even tell you), no one cares - it seems they just pay taxes and live their lives...

Straya is a strine variation of Australia.  Think Australia and remove the AU leaving Stralia, say it lazier (or drunk) and it becomes Straya.

Queeeeee beeeeec has been trying to separate from canadia ... but they have been for centuries ...

Apparently they cant take one more canadian winter.

Now Canadia also wants quuueeeeeebeeec outta there ... however they have not figured out how big a hacksaw they're going to need to cut quebec and float it down the atlantic.

Or the line made famous IMHO by Don Ferguson of Royal canadian air farce ...
You see the prime minister of canada is from Quebec, The finance minister of canada is from quebec, the opposition leader of canada is from quebec. So Obviously the needs of Quebec are not being met in Canada.

Flucking hilariuos I tell ya ...

I think the parliamentary system of gubbamint is more conducive to humor. The US system lacks in that regard ...

Of course I know who the PM is. I would suspect 90+% of ppl over 12 do. Stephen Harper of the Conservative party. I also know who the premier of my province is too. Dalton McGuinty of the liberal party.

Canadia is a third world county ... except the people are white. Heard that ?

What you call a canadian with 1/2 their brain sucked out. Quebecios.
What you call a quebecios with 1/2 their brain sucked out. A newfie ...

THE YEAR 2013 !

One sunny day in January, 2013, an old man approached the Lodge the Canberra
residence of Australia's Prime Minister Julia Gillard

he'd been sitting on a park bench.  He spoke to the  guard and said,

"I would like to go in and meet with Prime Minister Julia Gillard."

The Guard looked at the man and said, "Sir, Ms Gillard is no longer Prime Minister
and no longer resides here."

The old man said, "Okay," and walked away.

The following day the same man approached the The Lodge and said to the same Guard,

"I would like to go in and meet with Prime Minister Gillard."

The Guard again told the man, "Sir, as I said yesterday,

Ms Gillard is no longer Prime Minister and no longer resides here."

The man thanked him and again just walked away.

The third day the same man approached the The Lodge and spoke to the very same Guard,

saying,"I would like to go in and meet with Prime Minister Gillard."

The Guard, understandably agitated at this point, looked at the man and said,

"Sir, this is the third day in a row you have been here asking to speak to Ms Gillard.

I've told you already that Ms Gillard is no longer the Prime Minister and no longer resides here.

Don't you understand?"

The old man looked at the Guard and said,  "Oh, I understand.   I just love hearing it."

The Guard snapped to attention, saluted, and said,  "See you tomorrow,  Sir.

"I'm the toughest c*** of a gravel technician ever known" mouthed the Canuk, "in Helmand, I was forced to march for 3 days with no water, ran outta ammunition, broke my knife when on my own I took out 6 Talli in a machine-gun nest, and had to use my teeth to rip out the throat of a cocky bast*** who jumped out of the cave....I'm tough...."

"Screw you Jack" the Yank spluttered, "ya call that tough, you wouldn't know what a tough grunt was unless ya was a Ranger posted up Al-Anbar, no water, no food, no ammunition, no smokes, no chewing-gum, no condoms, no air support, no nothing,  and  had to single-handed eliminate - I say eliminate - 4 tanks in the morning and then take out three machine-gun nests in the afternoon on yer own using just a base-ball bat that I found in the back of a burnt out Hummer, that's tough."

"mmmmmmmmmmmmm" said the Aussie,  giving the campfire another poke with his duck, "let me think about this....."

Well now ... I figured the speed thing out years ago ... Everyone can type at whatever speed they want ... It don't matter .. We Aussies will still read it slow anyway .... Then we screw our faces up and figure out all the big words ... Check again to see if someone is being a dickhead ... Then let rip back at em with some invective & situational dramatics .

Personally I find it easier to type in th swearing first then edit in the info THEN polish and round the concept off with a few Strine-isms! ... But I'm from NSW ... Those QUEENSLANDERS lock themselves into a room with some bananas and keyboards then type away till one day some words or maybe even sense come out .... It's hopeless waiting for them to produce Shakespeare tho .. Cos they just grab a long pointy stick and shake it around in front of themselves in a vague manner! ... Years ago the TV showed a Aust vs US thing based on cultural oddities. One segment, the Aussies had to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich using Schmuckers, the Yanks had to make a vegimite sandwish. Both then had to eat it.

The yanks did not know what vegemite was so spread it on Real real thick, as they would have done with the Schmuckers. Watching their faces trying to eat a sandwich with that much vegemite on it was ROFLMFAO.

This is how my rally car locked when I drove it home after rolling it many years ago. Also copped a bit of rain on the way home so I was wearing my crash helmet which amused the cops driving in the opposite direction close to home.

I remember back when I was 13 or 14, my friend had an old Datsun 120 at his farm. We used to rally it around his place every weekend.

We were getting adventurous, ramping it off anything we could find, when we found a dam that had dried up, no water in it. Next thing I knew, we were doing 90 km/h ramping up the levy. I'm pretty sure the 4 seconds of air time we got told us all we needed to know. We were f%&ked.

We landed front wheels first, they dug in, buried the front end, flipped the car twice end over end, and landed on the boot. The car then gracefully planted itself on the wheels. Thank god for the "5 point harness" we put in (5 pieces of rope, bolted into the rollcage his dad put in when we rolled the car the first time, secured with the best knots we knew). After some careful (forceful) tinkering, the old girl started back up and we took off for home.

Ah...the good old days...

Michael
made that mistake  using both vegemite and marmite

We're a tough bunch of bastards here in Straya.

That you are "mate"!!!

Hard for me to speak of your country without sounding "cliched". I've never set foot on any ground in the Southern Hemisphere, and more than likely I never will. I try to follow current events and catch as many documentaries on the tube as I can about Australia and New Zealand so as to try and be a bit less ignorant!

I marvel at our similarities and differences...I wonder for example, how the "average" man or woman on the street in Australia feels about Global Warming and/or the impact of human activities on the environment vs. attitudes of people in the US.

(soap box mode on)

Sadly, there is very little said about environmental issues in US elections. In our pathetic two party system it often seems that one of the two parties is trying to drag the country backwards at every opportunity...to do away with the EPA entirely as one example of the prevailing "head in the sand" mindset.

Not that the other party is that much better...but generally speaking, their members might be more willing to accept the radical notion that human activity *does* have at least some impact on the planet.

You'd think everyone might agree that we should do all we can to insure there is something left for future generations. If indeed it isn't already too late...perish the thought, but there ya have it, the 900lb gorilla sitting comfortably in the middle of the room.

Of course there is room for endless debate when the issue is limited to climate change. I was never much good at debates. Sometimes I think a bit of common sense is more important than scoring points or thinking in terms of "absolutes". One thing  I do know, not so long ago the US experienced "The Dust Bowl"years. An environmental disaster linked directly to  ignorance and irresponsibility in managing natural resources. It's too bad we have to wait until things are completely out of hand before taking action. I'm not suggesting there is anything that could be done to change global weather patterns overnight, or even that the changes are entirely of human origin. Clearly the earth has been through many cycles of temperature extremes, but there are a lot of "firsts" in this cycle that can be attributed to human activity since the start of the industrial revolution etc.

Ok, I'm approaching the deep end of the pool, the point where my knowledge is limited and I shouldn't say much more. Thanks for tolerating my anxiety-driven missive...such is the nature of "concern".

Political parties like to offer window dressing for problems that are perceived as problems, but in reality are not.  anyway, better stop there before we breach forum rules.

Dat-O!

Man Made Global Warming is BS

Climate Change is real. Happens all the time. Every year. It's called Seasons. The rest, well, the Water is the largest supplier of CO2. It's released from the ocean in Warm Water and goes back into the ocean in Cool Water. Biggest things to change the water temp are: Sun and Internal Earth Temp. We are currently at the top of a 100,000 year heating/cooling cycle. Continents shift. When they do, the bodies of water still need to flow. Large volumes of different temperature water in different flow configurations alters weather. The only consistent thing about weather on this planet is that it is not consistent.

There you go, the summation version. Still think your SUV makes a difference?

Nope. Never heard of it until you just mentioned it.

I do find it interesting though... the carbon pump is known about. Glacial melt from humidity and not temperature is known about. but when it comes to Global Warming, well, we can forget about those scientifically proven things and blame cars. Never mind there is more argon in the atmosphere than CO2, never mind Man's contribution to that minuscule amount of CO2 is way under 10%.

Fuking media is in cohoots with lying bastard politicians to tax us for no reason.

There's a book.... great scams, swindles, and fads of the 20th century, or something like that. I'll get the right title later. Good read how stupid entire nations are. I imagine this will be another chapter in that book.

Thanks for the mention of the other book though. I'll certainly need to check it out.

The water release of CO2 is true, but it is a self reinforcing phenomenon. It will get warmer as it gets warmer.
That is why the 2 degree mark has been used as a reference mark. We got 2 degrees of co2 already in the atmosphere. The thing will take several years for the full effect. We stopped acid rain, cos sulphur dioxide lasts only 2 hours. Co2 lasts 1000. It takes several years to play out even. Co2 causes warming, warming causes co2, repeat over 50 years and you get a stable new temperature with the added co2. Suck it out of the air, and 50 yrs later you will be cooler.

BTW there is a technique, where they spray sulphur in the stratosphere and that reflects the incoming solar radiation. Seriously we need to do something like that now.

However I should tell you ... every biker knows man made global warming is 100% real. Have you ridden out into the country and when you ride back to the city you'd literally feel a wall of temperature change a mile or so from the city ?

Cool.

Classic argument ... The tree huggers are driving to the trees and hugging them, what a huge impact that is, they should stay home so they wont use gas and oxygen breathing by the trees ...

Dude, stay with the science, complaining about greenies is useless. Al Bore house is big and uses lots of power etc ... however, the correct comparison is other houses of that size/type. Not your little 2 bed apartment. Unfortunate, the president lives in a big house when he's president ... cant complain he's making global warming either.

Dont compare the gas mileage of an SUV to a bicycle.
Complain the SUV is driving 10 mph with 1000's of other SUV's with 1 occupant ...

Stop trying to control the weather. The planet has a 100,000 year warming cooling cycle. We didn't do jackshit 400,000 years ago or 300,000 years ago or 200,000 years ago. But now we have cars somehow it is US making that 100,000 cycle happen. Not the Sun or any other thing. Us alone. Sheeet!

Wanna suck more CO2 from the air. Plant trees. How hard is that? One thing is sure, though, taxing people won't do anything bar make more politicians more and more money.

Maybe they can legislate against volcanoes erupting. This way we won't have another "year without summer" or "medieval mini ice age" or whatever.  :icon_rolleyes: :icon_rolleyes:

We are already controlling the weather by pumping carbon dioxide.
The earth does warm, and it has been much much warmet, I think almost 8-10 degrees warmer. It got that much warmer over 100,000+ years. Evolution will have a good chance to catch up if we did it over 100,000 yrs. We have warmed it 2 degrees in just about 25 years. That is far too rapid. Oddly the last 15 years the earth has been cooling though. But we have simply been bailed out temporarily cos cooling has occoured for some reason.

You're again talking about how its dis-incentivized in your state/cuty/country. The beyond proof part - we have put co2 in the air and we have got it warmer, and a trend that will happen and un roll in the next 50-100 years. We have 2 degrees counted in already. We have never ever had 400 ppm if I recall in over 30,000 years of the earths life. Polar Ice cores have proved that.

The carbon tax or this or that is some politicians idea. We have those kooks too. Will make no difference except push all the manufacturing to china, where coincidentally they have no such laws.
We probably should hit em with 100% import taxes.

Perhaps we should invade somewhere with fresher air... And send all the very bad people there back to china for doctrination .... Our people can live in most esteemed new territory... The people we take over will be very happy... We build these new cities for them to live... Sure air is bad... But they can work to fix problem!   :icon_rolleyes:

I know of a few people who used to drive to the nearest big city ... like if you were in say columbia SC, you'd go to atlanta and buy Injun stuff.
Chinese will be buying soy sauce and fish from china which will be flown there ... nope wont solve a thing. Oh, but they dont know that, no problem.
