how much for the tank?
Title: Re: Gauging Interest: '99 Part Out

I have someone interested in the tank, rear fairings, and drag bars and someone else interested in both sprockets and the chain.

I am waiting until Saturday to see if a deal on a motor works out or not. Also I am waiting to see if there's enough interest in a fair amount of the parts.

Thanks,
-Andy

I am keeping the headlight.  The right coil pack is detached from the spark plug wire. The left coil looks exactly like it but I'm not entirely sure. If it is and I do part the bike out you've got dibs.

How much are you looking to get for the underpan with with seat lock and taillight, chain, gauge cluster bracket?

Also are your fuel hoses and petcock available?

I'm sorry, I thought I had responded to you already.

Does $120 for everything, plus shipping, sound fair?  I have no idea what shipping might cost as the pan is a solid piece of 14 gauge steel.  That also would include the petcock and some brand new fuel line.  My current fuel lines are a mess.  I did have someone interested in the chain but he hasn't gotten back with me.

Feel free to make an offer.  I just know I put a lot of hours in to that pan even though it may not look it.  It dramatically increases the storage under the seat which is what I was looking to do.  I was able to smuggle a full quart of oil under the seat when I forgot my bag and apparently forgot I was riding my bike.

A note on the petcock:  I've never seen it function as designed.  It may very well if all hoses were routed correctly but the previous owner disconnected the reserve hose and routed it in to the petcock in such a way that it is ON when set to Prime and off when straight down.  It always worked for me so I just never messed with it.

I won't know for certain until Sunday-ish if I'm parting the bike out or not.

Thanks,
-Andy

I just called my friend about an hour ago letting him know that I wanted to buy his SV.  The motor on this thing has something wrong with it and I'm too tired of working on it to mess with it any more.

I'm going to change the thread title, if possible, and send PM's to people that had PM'd me about parts.

Thanks,
-Andy

Do you still need a headlight?  Mine is now available.  My new (to me) SV650 came naked so I didn't need it for a conversion.

I don't think so but I'll check to be sure.  I remember the bike came with one set but I can't remember if they were back or front.  I ended up replacing all 4 with smaller units.  Would you be interested in the rears if that's all I have?  They should work up front.

Sorry it took me a couple days to get back with you.  I had to dig these out of my pile of parts.  I didn't realize one lens has some sort of milky stain on it.  It was like that when I got it.  I'm trying to get it off and restore the lens somewhat.  I'm pretty certain they are rear signals.

Let me know if you're interested at all and we can go from there.

Slug- I was the first guy who asked about the shock, to my knowledge it is still available. He offered a reasonable price but I decided to hold off on buying one until this summer when I'm home (long story). I have very mixed feelings about you wanting it (BACK OFF!), but I suppose I snoozed, I lose, so to speak.

I do have both of the cams.  They are in really good shape as I had to buy one to replace a messed up intake cam.  It's not original to my bike; I think it came off a '96.

I do have the carbs, the choke cable, and the left hand controls that operate the choke.  The choke cable casing got close to the motor and deformed a little but the cable works fine.  I'm not sure what you mean by "holder clips".

I apologize for leaving you hanging so long.  I didn't get notification of your post until today.  I have the complete carb setup and the choke is set up and working.  The clips that you seem to be referring to look as if they hold the choke lever on each individual carb.  I can get you a picture later when I get home so that I can see if we are on the same page.  Let me know if you are still interested.

The engine had some issues but I have no idea what they were.  Someone told me that it may be the rings and seals but that was a guess from the person that bought my top end.  I would imagine the crank is in good condition but I can't know until I tear it apart.  With a newborn in the house I'm not entirely sure when that may be.  If it's something you're interested in we could probably work out a deal.  Where are you located?

how much for the katana wheel?

It depends on what exactly you want.

$125 + Shipping for the wheel and tire
$75 + Shipping for just the wheel

That may seem expensive for just the wheel but that includes the cost of having to get the tire removed.  I would prefer to sell the wheel/tire combo as the tire is not usable for me.  If I have the tire removed I can not guarantee that the paint won't be scratched/removed by the machine since they are painted.  I will, however, use the same shop that put it on without scratching it.

The wheel does have a rotor but does not have a sprocket.  Those prices are without the cush drive but the GS cush drive works on these wheels.  The tire has 3500+ miles on it but it doesn't appear to have much wear.  I bought a dual compound sport touring tire because I wanted longevity.  I've read reviews of this tire going 8000+ miles.  There should be pictures in the first post.

Title: Re: '99 Part Out

It uses the stock GS rear axle.  Some people messed around with the rear caliper but all I did was mount the wheel and use the stock caliper and I never had a problem.  The rear pads wear a little unevenly.  I did have to clearance the chain guard a little for the rear tire so that it wouldn't hit.  I also had to heat and bend the brake arm to clearance the other side of the tire.  I've read that you can just buy a brake arm from a Bandit (I think) and you don't have to mess with bending your stock one.  It's a fairly easy swap to do; the hardest part for me was getting the wheel/tire in the swing arm and around the brake caliper without scratching the wheel.  You will need your cush drive and a rear sprocket but if your current one isn't in need of replacement you can just use that one.

There is an entire thread on here, and I believe on the GS Wiki, about doing this swap.  I think it was from member Turd Ferguson.  That's where I got all of my info.

Yeah I would be interested in the CDI alone.  In the OP you say there was something wrong with the motor, did you ever figure out what it was?

I ask because there is apparently something wrong with my motor but I suspect it may be my CDI  ;)

I didn't find out what was going on with my motor but it was making a terrible "clack" sound around the valves so I'm sure the igniter had nothing to do with it.  That being said I can't say 100% that the igniter is in working order.
