So I did a valve check today. (Everything in spec) :thumb: And I noticed that the PAIR system is gone. (I wanted to do that anyways) So I have a couple questions. There is one tube that is blocked off but has a hole punched in it. Not sure if that was from the PAIR system. Also, where that PAIR system enters the head by the exhausts, it looks like there is block off plates but they have holes in them... So does this fully delete the PAIR system or not? Just curious because it seems weird.
The part that I can't identify looks like an air filter almost. Not sure. But it looks old and crumbly and in need of replacement for whatever it is. If someone could identify it (circled in red) and tell me what the function is, that would be awesome! Thanks!

Anyone?
mine still hooked up , the white piece (broken off ) was a t-fitting , where are you located ?
Sorry I'm in Wisconsin, and do I need that t fitting???
it looks like some of your lines are mixed up , and the block off plates should have no holes in them , with bike running do you notice air coming out from that hole ? picture #4
I've never really noticed them. Next time I start her up I'll feel of air comes out. Where could that fitting go to?
there is hoses that come off the tops of both carbs , (sideways ) white color , check that first , problem is I have a california gs500f with complete emissions still on it , hoping you were close by to see my bike to see exactly .
Okay. Ill take a look. Is it possible that the empty fitting hooked up to the pair system?
there is another canister that bolts to the frame , only 1 bolt holds the canister
In the first picture above the red circle there is a canister with one bolt
yes , ok it looks like the hoses are hooked up to the top of the carbs (sideways) , so some of the lines are hooked up wrong , its very tricky , when I cleaned my carbs I marked everthing (color paint) do you still have the gas tank off ?
I am thinking , there was no drilled and taped holes for the steel hoses that bolt to the engine , there is two places on the engine (side by side )
get some more photos of the exhaust side #4 picture to see if you have the same thing under the header pipe (side by side )
air is injected into the exhaust to help the clean burning , ( on mine ) (2007 gs500f) I have two areas with two steel tubes (one on each side) (side by side)
ok I see on the left side of frame , you do not have a 2nd valve assy. , there is two holes on the frame (empty holes ) where this bolts two if you have a california motorcycle , 2nd valve assy. has four hoses , best I can say is google bike bandit , and look at the enlarged views , shows how to hook-up everything on most all year models . or maybe your dealer in your area has all the diagrams on the complete emission system .
Okay thank you!
PAIR system missing?
Nah...it was never there to start with.
I'm glad it's gone, it just doesn't seem like those block off plates really do anything :dunno_black:
The ports have been roughly cast but they haven't been finished machined along with the tapped holes that should hold the PAIR pipes and their flanges in place on the cylinder.
Your bike has never had the PAIR system fitted but does have the evaporative control system fitted and the black cylinder in the pic is the charcoal filter that absorbs fuel fumes.
Okay so is there anything I need to do or is it fine? And thanks both of you for your help!
Sorry I cant help anymore........the setup you have applies to USA bikes, I am in the UK and we get something different :dunno_black:

this is a big clue as to never having the 2nd valve assy. installed on the bike .

picture #1 ok this hose on top of the left carb , you have a open hose , I think this hose goes to the bottom of the airbox .
Concerning the hose with the round plastic piece attached to it:
Looks like part of a calif model, the EGR.
Just cut out a square out of the yellow of a yellow/green sponge, and insert it there.
It's some sort of vacuum line, that over time has sucked up the filter in the engine (sensitive to fuel, mine also worn the filter).
I used a synthetic sponge as filter, works fine, sponges are easy to get, and work fine as air filters.
Leaving it open allows debris to enter the engine.. not good.
You can't block it, or the engine will stall.

I have the same, but there's no connection to mount it to...
Hi Meelee , what year is your gs500 ? the airbox on bikebandit diagrams shows two rubber hoses one on top and one on bottom , boy a few different set-ups as I have full emissions california gs500f , back to work , ( took a coffee break ) hey Meelee take care have a great weekend rg500gamma :thumb:
the hose in the diagram on top (airbox ) is the valve cover vent hose , the bottom hose on the airbox looks like a catch hose , diagram on 2002 year from bikebandit
Okay! I'll have to take a look when I get time. I'll let you know what's up if I have any questions. Thank you!

perhaps the prev owner didn't know, and installed a reg airbox.
the bike had some mods and miles before i bought it.
Hi Meelee , thanks for the information , hey Meelee have a great weekend , take care :thumb: rg500gamma
