Title: Legend of Seamax

I've always loved this bike since I first saw it years ago.  The 600/gs500 idea came from this bike as I thought the lines were perfect.  My rendition ended up coming out different but somehow God blessed me and Seamax passed me the mantle to own this legend of a bike.

It came in today by 1aa motorcycle shipping company from Oregon to Texas!  All looks well on it, except some rub marks from the straps.  Not too worried about that since we'll be respraying it soon. :D

So I want to keep track of it here and hopefully share the experience.  Ready to get it going again!  Stay tuned for GSXR1000 engine swap!

ok just kidding,..haha

So glad to see this went to a GStwinner.
Being in Oregon myself, I was very tempted to buy it but really didn't need another project.
Can't wait to see what you do with the bike!

Show!  There you are!  When are you going to build something?  Miss seeing your work

Maybe I should rename this Secrets of Seamax  For me it is deeply interesting to see how someone figured out how to build something.  Got some time to begin yesterday,...

never thought I'd see these two together!

suspenseful! haha I have to say these fairings are thick!  I bought a race fairing for a cbr once and it was thin and nothing like these.

wth is that,... ah gel battery

tried to save this with pro-logix charger but kept coming back ERR so I think it's done

you can see the thickness of the tail fairing,...

impressed with this seat.  The material is grippy and foam is thick.  Prob comfy for long rides,...

not sure if this was cut down from gs seat pan or from something else, but again, thick base and solid

fun with wiring.  Seamax told me he didn't have a welder and I've been dying to see how he engineered his support.  This is nothing short of brilliant if you ask me.

just for later reference

reference pic

pretty clean inside,...cleaned out just to go through them and be sure,...
i haven't worked with gs carbs in awhile and they seem tiny.  Have an xs400 I
finished up recently and the carbs are much beefier. :dunno_black:

back in and hope to fire up this weekend

Got some time and changed the Orings in valve needle assembly (that's what fiche calls it anyways).  Back together and no leaks with a quick start.  Need more time :dunno_white:

:D I'm so happy. Haven't heard her purrr and rumble for over 2 years.

I'm glad she went to a fellow gstwinner cause she deserves and needs to be ridden. Hmmmm, my wife would probably disapprove of these comments.  :icon_razz:

She was built on a shoestring budget as my first bike without any welding skills from me and very mininal fabrication skill. I learned a lot from this board and working on her.

Keep us update cause I really want to see what vision and upgrades you have for her.

Yessir!  More of your geniusness right there! (https://www.motohouston.com/forums/images/smilies/topsecret.gif)  It's funny cause I did similar on my gs600rr idea but you did it better!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

not much going on lately since I've been working on a voyager for a friend. I think I'm almost done with it though.  GS I swapped in a k&n after pods frustrated me to where I was sick of trying.  Went so far as to order a cheap oem airbox just to try if I keep having problems.  I have some Sudco carbs I'm itching to see if they'd work but I need to mod the top cables for clearance.  I dunno,....  Still need to finish this old soldier first,...

Was starting to get frustrated and pulled carbs.  I'd never really heard of 150's even with pods, so dropped to 142.5 (that I had) and ordered some 140's.  Success,....  Played around a bit as it bogs if you hit the throttle too hard.  Seems like when you get moving it has good power.  I think the 140's will solve that.  Glad to finally get it rolling.

Next'll be to fix that undertail (cracked), figure out some bolts,....and paperwork.  I'll likely ride it as is for a bit then start working on paint.

Oh yeah! bring back the mid 2000's hooligan sport bike days.
Its very cool to see that bike running again. Definitely has a look of a certain vintage.

Seamax is now in Oregon ??? I thought he was in the Midwest, Iowa or something circa 2010 when I made a NC to WA run ?
Anyway - cbr - 150 is the right jet for pods and pipe. If you're dropping to 140, its very likely you have something else wrong with it - mainly float level.
If I recall I did a carb set for seamax - not sure if it was that exact one - but, 150/40/1 washer/3 turns is the setup for K&N and pipe.

Cool.
Srinath.

Thanks Buddha,...as always, appreciate your guidance and immense knowledge :whisper:

That means I need to get back in there and do some more cleaning and looking.  :thumb:

Set the floats to about the top of float bowl and no more, in fact put em 1mm lower, the floats tend to drift and wear higher, much like rust and gravity, buoyancy apparently never sleeps either.
K&N and pipe will be 150/40/1/3/float at top of bowl and will run like a beast. I would almost say run it with a WFO pipe - none of those sissy noise reducers needed here and it would use every bit of what the 150 puts out. Its a well proved setup, I don't even know who started the 142.5 BS, those may work for K&N with stock pipe - may being operative word, cos I never ran that setup.
I ran the 150/40 and 125/40 (for a stock/slip on bike) with an O2 sensor screwed into the exhaust. It may make a touch less HP compared to a 147.5 but for drivability in cold wet conditions the 150 is unmatched for the K&N and pipe setup. Similarly with the 125 for stock/slip on only.

Cool.
Buddha.

Went back in to find plugs super lean with the 142.5 and followed the guru's advice to replace 150's and 3x's.  Haven't run it yet but maybe tonight.  Fingers crossed it'll be better.  With 142.5 there was a hesitation to throttle up.

Want to find some mufflers to replace those huge cups.  Interesting exhaust designing by Seamax underthere.  Definitely solid!  Not exactly sure how that came together (http://www.chinariders.net/images/smilies/smiley_emoticons_confused.gif),.... Anyways, inspired by my R1's tail exhaust and my love for underbelly cans, I want to do a little presto change-o.

Sorry about the cups Seamax  Looking for some clean replacements,....

Cleaned carbs again, swapped in the new 40's Seamax sent me and added a washer.  Things seemed pretty good,...

Decided to take it out and wow off the line it's great.  Then when you hit about 5000 it has a flat spot.  Got dangit,... :2guns:

Will keep messing with it,....
.........................................................................................
.........................................................................................
Pulled carbs and dropped in 04 carbs I had on shelf. With 22/65/147.5 no washer,....seems good. I didn't have a throttle cable and used old Kawasaki crappy one for a stand in until I can get a match.
Pulls with no flat spots. I'll ride it a bit and check plugs.

I'm hating the forks. I think they're supposed to have progressive springs but it's like riding a floaty waterbed. Have to fix that asap,....
Underpanel needs attention and then going to get my inspection and tags. woo hoo

...
fixed my throttle cable w a used one off ebay for $8.## which is sweeeet.  So smooth.  Anyways,...

tried a sheet of tin off of something unnamed :hithead: and that started out good bu it couldn't take the curve.  I ended up chunking it and ordering another similar model to the one Seamax had on there before :whisper:.  That should come in today and give it another shot.

Got in my 'panel' and whittled it away to fit.  I'm not crazy about this pattern but need to get my inspection done.  Going to look for a better fit/better pattern.

I dunno how my insurance was only $26.## but that was sweet to find out this morning.  Anyways, so far up to 60mph and feels good,...

Rode in to work today and passed by inspection.  'Get new tires,' he said.  dang it,...

Other than that, ride was ok.  Position up top is about the same as the k5 but leg angles not as tight.  Some broad in a mazda turd wanted to race :dunno_black:  Maybe she was triggered by my filtering.  It is one inch narrower than my chinese grom wannabe.  That's sweet for splitting :flipoff:

So, tires it is,... :bs:

My wife surprised me with buying me a hf tire changer.  I'd complained how hard tires were blah blah blah so she got me this.  I didn't have anything to mount it on and dug around in the attic to find an old engine stand.  Works pretty good for temporary stand.  The 'motorcycle tire' attachment at the top has a big rod that won't fit through the hubs I've done so far but I guess eventually I'll be able to try it.

Really need to put some spools on here.  Sketchy stand sometimes
(https://i.ibb.co/ctyrx2Y/IMAG9363.jpg)

bead breaker is such a helper.  I hated doing tires before this.  Now it's about 30 minutes to change one,...

wanted to try some shinko ravens cause i like the tread pattern and they have decent reviews.  Was hoping it'd give me a tiny bit more room on the sides and they do
(https://i.ibb.co/nsd1K6p/IMAG9366.jpg)

On to the front.  Now this stand is even more sketchy!  UNfortunately there's a piece of bracket support under the stem to where I can't use my understem stand :dunno_black:  So i had to use this poc  Wife helped me steady it to get it to where I halfway trusted taking the tire off.  Really I was waiting for it to fall over the whole time,...

I have a shinko (120) raven for the front too but this IRC is a 110 and if I don't use it now it'll probably end up in the attic never to be used.

Good to go and ready to try inspection again,.... :hithead:

Finally got my plate & registration.  Had a meanazz broad my first go around couple weeks ago that sent me home saying that I needed more information filled out.

Went back, unsure of what I needed to fill in on a line and different lady told me not to even worry about that; gave me my Texas plate with a smile.  Why do some of those broads down there at dmv make it such a pita :dunno_black:

Ah well, legal and running pretty good.  Picture challenge time :hithead:

Thanks Show.  It's great fun and that exhaust makes it sound beastly.  At throttle it roars.  I'm not crazy about loud exhausts but I kinda like it. haha  I did get a couple of replacement cans to quiet it down and now not so sure I want to. :dunno_black:

Should have at least taken a pic to update eh,...(https://www.motohouston.com/forums/images/smilies/dark1.gif)

ANyways, been out and about, riding to work, enjoying the cold,....  Went over to mom's this past weekend and aside from a pos subaru, a crapped out camry and turd impala wanting to race on the Beltway, things went a ok.  Except my idle keeps going up.  I thought I had it dialed in pretty well and things were good but I rode about 40 miles one day to my buddy's pizza business and my idle seemed high.  Turned it down and all's well.  So, back to mom's this past weekend and idle is up again. :dunno_black:

I'm thinking I have a leak somewhere.  I haven't looked yet but any .02ยข tips appreciated :whisper:

Intake vacuum leak will sound raspy and sorta like the engine noises are getting out ... cos they are.
Idle rpm plug pull looks white ???
WD40 test ?
You could also have an exhaust leak, which wont shoe on a wd40 test, but well ... You may just be a hair lean if those don't all show nothing out of the ordinary.

Cool.

got me this morning,.... :hithead:

Seamax had used some large zipties to suspend the battery and I copied that with the new battery.  I guess bumping around slowly wore through one of the ties as this morning, it cut out on me.

Was one of those great moments too, you know when you're sailing through lights, picking all the right spots to get through traffic and then,..lose power, bike shuts off.  I coasted to parking lot, wisps of smoke coming up from tail cowl.

Popped the top to find the red sizzling on the frame, melting the battery terminal like jello in the sun.  Grabbed it and got it off the frame, secured it and started pushing.  Whoooooo a mile pushing a gs500 is no joke!(https://www.motohouston.com/forums/images/smilies/confused2.gif)

Got it here to work and stowed in the back of the warehouse.  Need battery, new wire/terminal and hopefully nothing else got fried, but we'll find out.

Steez!  Good to see you post!  Oohhhhhh weldin' fab time!  That's going to be awezome for sure!  Can't wait to see some of that!! ! !  And, yea my 929gs went kaput.  On the other hand, Seamax sent me his GS and I just fookin love this bike.

Show,...I've been lazy on putting something together.  I got some extra thick zip ties and used them for the time being.  Been all in with the Night Train trying to get it together.  Rear 240 conversion is a real pita.  Took me awhile to get the rear belt enough clearance and then realized the swingarm bolt wasn't even tight.  Cranking it down took all my clearance away again.  Farg!

Riding year round here in Houston but right now it's exceptionally nice, beginning to transition to fall!  Loving the crisp cool air!!!  I checked your first couple posts but didn't see where you are,...??

About another month of riding and then the occasional good day until the snow flies.

What a beautiful place to live!  History, beaches, sights, . . . not like Houston where we rep warehouses, gas stations, traffic and trash.

Are those another pair of GS500 forks?

I likes slim cafe fenders, but those don't fit the GS mounting.

Since you like big, how about Show Biz's "Hay Busa" fender job ?

I made a slim "cafe" fender for my GS once... and then sold it when I got tired of it and wanted to do the 'Busa one. If you take 2 back halves of stock GS500 fenders and put them together, they make a nice slim fender IMO.

Yes, still gs forks.  I'd put some beefy springs in them for the turd build and they're not sloppy and squishy anymore.  Might be a little too stiff even.  I figure I'll get used to them.

Maybe I'll dig the old fender I used on the turd out of the attic and spray bomb it black.  I don't like the cafe slim fender look unless it's on a naked bike.  Show being the styling artistic genius showstopper that she is, definitely winning with the big fender but, i dunno.  Could go back to a regular gs fender.  It doesn't look terrible on f model.

Went to get my inspection to get my registration and everything good.  Left early to make it to work with no problems.  Inspection a breeze and went to leave.  Key wouldn't turn.  I try a bit and push it down the parking lot to a quieter spot.

SO it just won't turn.  I try it a thousand times, move the bars back and forth, hit it, cuss alot, keep trying and it will not turn.

It's about a mile and a half to work.  Yea, great farging morning.  I continue to try the key as I push that heavy heifer.  I must have tried it ten thousand times by the time I exhaustedly got in to work.

Pushed it to the back of the warehouse and ordered a new ignition.  What a b- of a morning,...

On a recent trip on my GS I was turning into a Motel parking lot after a long 450 mile day on the bike. All of a sudden I realized that my handle bars wouldn't turn far enough! I almost crashed into a utility pole.

I never figured out what happened, and it hasn't happened since, but I think it had something to do with the ignition/steering lock. Although its not something I have ever heard of happening to someone else.

Your ignition issue is the only similar thing I've seen happen here at GStwins. I guess with all these GS500s getting to be so old we are going to start hearing about NEW issues other than the same old carb and electrical gremlins, starter clutch issues or cam end knock.

Good luck installing the new ignition. I hear it can be hard to get the security bolts out.

Key not turning could be lock wafer wear, or key wear. Take it off and take out the cyl and check the wafers. Or if it happened suddenly you may have a broken spring for a wafer.

Buddha, I thought about trying to figure it out but after pushing it 1.5 miles, throwing that ignition in the trash was tooooo satisfying :icon_lol:

Security bolts were, interesting.  I tend to forget to take pics until I'm already started,... So for anybody doing ignition swap for whatever reason, unless someone already changed the security bolts,..

Yes you have to take it off,... Not really a big deal.  Couple fork clamp bolts and the big center bolt and however your gauges mount,....

so... gsxr1000 swap  :icon_twisted: :icon_eek: look forward to seeing how that goes. i put some thought into these silly swaps occasionally and from eyeballing i reckon an inline 3 fz/mt09 engine would be the way to go, quite small, lightweight and so unbelievably punchy. like that last mental cbr600 build showed, the engine needs to be offset so far for the chainrun, an i3 or big single would alleviate the engine offset by a fair margin i'd assume. ah i dunno but looking forward to seeing what happens with it.

Fun, fun,... Went to leave this morning and >clunk<,...  Starter turned over a few times and then -click- nothing.  Hmmm awright.  It's been a little colder and last week seemed like my battery wasn't happy.

Put it on the charger and took off on the wee bike.  Came home to 100%, hit the button and -click-.  Hmmm again.  More like, farrrg.  Jump the solenoid with a booster on it just in case and, nothing.  Seriously my starter crapped out?  I didn't have any time to mess with it.

Thinking about how the starter sounded it was kind of clunky sounding.  I dunno,..  I'll report back with more as I mess with it :dunno_black:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Went and jumped the solenoid with a screwdriver and it turned over.  Ah ha,...!  I guess my Lisle starter jumper is broke cause it didn't work.  Replaced the solenoid with one out of parts bin and all good :icon_mrgreen:

sorry for the offtopic, whats your impression of the brakes?

i have the front ones, dual, with gsxr tokico black calipers(gsxr 600/750 k8 front end)  and a hayabusa front cylinder.

for me they are perfect, i really like the feedback they give, but never had anything of this level to compare.

My only worries could be the possible excessive wear on the disc but i dont brake (hard) very often, i cut gas way earlier before my stops.

i tested them mainly practicing emergency stops and the weak link is my tire now (metzeler m33)

@cbrfxr67, how is going that project?

im curious about how he made all the wiring harness fit in that thin tail. if you could post pics about it.
i had to do a wiring conversion from 89 to 2008 and i still cant figure out some routes.

Here's something super interesting, well I thought it was/is good stuff.  Phlogistian listed a treasure trove of items and of course I'm a gs hoarder and wanted it all.

Phlogistian graciously worked with me and packed it all up on a pallet!  We worked together and got it down to Houston on a freight truck.
What a grand surprise digging through this trove of gs stuff!

Thanks for that Phlogistian and for sharing the story behind it all!  That in itself was legendary!

Thats a serious case of goats! I can't tell from the little pictures, was it caused by the epoxy delaminating, or the magnets coming off the rotor, or the starter clutch bolts sheering off and then bouncing around causing damage? Either way, I assume you are going to drop the sump and clean it out?

When I had the starter clutch bolts sheer off I switched to the 1989 version of the generator rotor because the magnets don't have all the epoxy on them that can flake off like the later style rotors. The 1989 version is built like all the old 80's GS bikes and nobody has goats issues with those.

Thanks blue for the info.  Got that cleaned up yes but, been having problems.

Rectifier over heated and started smoking.  Checked wiring and stator and things seem ok.  Changed rectifier and been watching it heat up to 160+ and I cut it off.  Ran a jumper from battery to rectifier to bypass ignition switch, nada.  Ran new grounds, nada.  Swapped stator for another one and same.  Changed battery, same.  Replaced wiring from stator to harness, same.  Starting to get frustrated now.  Looking at pulling out the whole harness and replacing it.

Have you spent any time on the GSresources forum? They mostly talk about the 70's/80's 4 cylinder GS bikes, but there are a lot of similarities between those an the GS500. They have a lot of discussion about improving the charging systems because those old GS bikes were known to cook Regulator/Rectifiers and stators for a variety of reasons. You should search there to learn about Single Point Ground, wiring a SH775 regulator directly to the battery, and also read their "stator papers." I'll do a really poor job here of summarizing the issues they talk about:

-An unnecessary loop of one stator leg up to the headlight off switch, which was removed after the government required moto headlights to always be on. Creates a lot of unnecessary resistance in the wiring and can be bypassed to removing 6 feet of wire from the equation. This isn't an issue on the GS500 afaik, just mentioning it so if you go searching on GSresources you don't spend time reading about that problem.

-Old connections get corrosion over time. Its recomended to go through the entire harness and undo each connection and clean it mechanically or at least with some spray contact cleaner. Then some members recomend putting a light coating of deoxit to protect from future corrosion.

-Bad grounds. They recommend something called a single point ground. I barely understand it so I won't try to explain it, but apparently it does a good job of telling the r/r exactly what the bike's electrical needs are so that it can provide the exact voltage the battery needs. By having all the grounds meet in one spot, you don't have voltage drops giving bad info to the regulator.

-Switching to a SH775 r/r. It needs to be a genuine one, there are lots of Chinese copies on ebay. If you search around you can usually still find nice used ones for under $50. This is apparently a leap forward in regulator technology compared to the shunt type on the GS500 and older GS bikes, which have to get rid of any unused power by turning it into heat. If it can't get rid of the heat fast enough, it will overheat. The SH775, when wired directly to the battery and coupled with a good single point ground, should last much longer than a shunt type r/r.

I also like their quick and dirty electrical problem diagnosis method:
"Quick Test Steps:

1.) key off................Normal 12.7 volts-12.9 volts

2.) key on (but not cranking with lights for 10 sec).....Normal 12.2-12.5 volts

3.) at idle (1500 rpm).....12.6volts - 13.2volts

4.) at 2500 rpm 13.5 -14.0 volts

5.) at 5000 rpm.....14.0 -15.0 volts

6.) key off.....slightly higher than measurements # 1 (12.8-13.0 v)

QUICK TEST Diagnosis Summary:

Basically Step #1 and #2 is making sure the battery is charged and in good health. The drop should be about 0.5 volts for normal headlamp and coil load (without cranking the starter). Anymore than 0.5V drop indicates the battery is weak even though the static voltage is OK (12.7-12.8V). If your battery is any lower it can have an effect on your charging voltages as the charging system only has so much capacity and will be drug down by a poor battery.

Step #3 is get a baseline starting voltage. This will vary some depending upon your idle and the particular R/R you have. It could be lower than the off voltage or as you idle up it will increase to 13.0 v

Step #4 by the time you get to 2500 RPM you should have close to the maximum output voltage even if you have bad connections. You are not pushing as much current and this shows that the stator is likely good.

Step #5 by the voltage at 5000 RPM being higher than at 2500 RPM you have a pretty good indication that your connections are good. If the voltage at 5000 drops from 2500 you have bad connections. If you already checked the grounds then it is likely in the positive legs between R/R(+) and Battery (+) check fuse box and the large bullet connector to the battery. The voltage climbs above 15.0 V it is likely the R/R not regulating and is bad bad.

Step #6 If after running for a few seconds in a charging state the voltage to the battery should have risen a bit. If it is lower than where you started then you did not charge at all, Again this will vary some what depending upon how long you let the bike run."

Where can I rep you for that info Blue?!  Shazammin great stuff there!

Ended up combing through my attic junkpile and found a pristine rectifier which didn't get hot at all. :dunno_black: So back to riding.

I'm working on a FXR and doing some paint which usually is super annoying but seems therapeutic now.  shrug again  After I finish the ZX6 I'm going to fix the paint on my 500.

Fail on posting pic of gs all I have is one from zx6 yesterday,..shame

Quote-Old connections get corrosion over time. Its recomended to go through the entire harness and undo each connection and clean it mechanically or at least with some spray contact cleaner. Then some members recomend putting a light coating of deoxit to protect from future corrosion.

This is excellent advice for any of our bikes. They're all old enough to need the connectors cleaned out. This can help prevent and resolve electrical gremlins.

Any bike that's over 10 years old will benefit from this.

Cleaning all the electrical connectors sounds like a lot, but it's really not too bad.

Get a can of electrical contact cleaner that's compatible with plastic connectors. Also get a tube of dielectric grease.

Pull the connectors individually. Spray the cleaner liberally into both sides. Then put a glob of dielectric into one side.

Do that on every electrical connection. It's critical maintenance on a older bike.

Had a nasty short that took me awhile to find.  Ended up being the wire in stalk was pinched on the fairing stay.

Fairing stay also broke again at the base.  Rewelded it with extra support.  Have replaced three out of four fairing brackets as they've broken multiple times and welded them only for them to break again.  Used some flat bar steel and made new ones.  I don't think those things will ever break.

Redid a bunch of wiring to eliminate cheap connectors.  Hmm oh finally got time to make a new fender.  That's a grom fender I cut and molded to fit.  Had to make a bracket that took me all day.  Need to raise the front about a half inch so it'll stop bonking this fender before it cracks like the old one did.  Rewired the stalks to be running lights and the side lights to be blinkers.  The side lights are bulbs and the stalks are leds.  Trying to cut the load on little lithium battery.

Today was first day I've ridden it in about a month.  Of course it was lightly misting and I skidded thru a red light trying not to high side on a turn :hithead:

Maybe I can get back to zx6r now.

NICE  :icon_mrgreen: about the bike work of course, not about the skidding  :icon_razz:

Actually washed it yesterday!  Other than that and minor piddly things, I've pretty much just been riding almost every day, rain or shine, to work or wherever.

Obligatory sunny morning pic,...

Also, zx6r came together pretty nicely.  Having some brake issues and trying to figure that out.

Was looking at mp like I shouldn't and saw a turd that I couldn't resist.  Looked like someone had done a fork mod so of course I drove an hour and a half to go get it.  lol

Got home and pulled off the forks.  I guess whoever had them thought they'd fit.  shrug

They don't seem to be in bad shape.  Originally I thought I'd swap everything over to my bike but I'll likely resell them to get rid of them.

Now I have this turd and considering taking it apart and selling it or bringing my old turd build down, fixing the frame with pieces from this.  I can get this engine going and then sell as a running bike.  hmmm  :dunno_black:

ohhhh, this strikes me as gold. I have the same mod to my bike, 06 gsxr 750 front end.
iam rebuilding the stem bearings and did a mindless hammering stem to low triple tee yoke job.
i want to do it right.

could you upload details of the stem, bearings?

If a recall correctly the best method was removing the stem axle froom a carbon steel gs yoke and re inserting it on the aluminum low gsxr yoke.
(Bob broussard)

i hammered it til it mushrommed it but, the gsxr hole is slightly larger, soda can bushing, aluminum tape, welding and machining, a lot of ideas but very afraid of mismatching tolerances wil break the aluminum piece form the inside if it is under too much tension.
Didnt want to steal the post, but i think you are one of the few that could help me with some critical guidance here.

Also, a week ago an AMB/LSL handle bar conversion top yoke arrived and bought 32005 and 32006 ntn bearings last week.

Armandorf I wish I had done a conversion already and could tell you what worked.  That's still one I haven't accomplished personally.  There are some good pages out there with info on them for the gs.  Maybe someday I'll actually successfully do one.

Messing around with this turd.  I couldnt get it to rotate even after soaking.  It looks like the bike was laying on its left side for God knows how long and there is rust and crap in every crevice.  Not really a big deal, but somewhere along the way someone put carbs on it after the intake filled up with leaves, dirt and crap.  shrug.

Next I'll pull off the exhaust, and everything to bare frame.  Going to hack off the tail etc and throw that away.  I need the mounting section that I cut off my old turd's frame. I'll weld that back in and put gs engine back in it.

I guess I will continue over there when I drag that frame out of the attic.

Not sure what is wrong with this engine I got from Phlogistian besides it has a zillion miles on it and mount is collapsed.  I think I'm going to use these two engines to put one engine together, then restore old turd frame for a gs engine and put it all back together and sell it.  That would get alot of stuff out of my attic and put that bike back on the road.

Reading ancient threads from ben2go dgyver and others on sleeving, bigger pistons, decking, etc.  I wish the pictures worked.  I see people talking but I can't find results.  The whole 547cc or more idea is grabbing my interest and I would love to try it.

I'ma jump back to my old thread since that is where I'm going with this.

Sold harley so that was great to get that thing gone!  Was a cool bike with loads of character being an old vet's bike.  Went to a kid in San Antonio that got in an accident and broke both his legs on his first bike.  Healed up and used the insurance money to buy this one.  Wish him luck and God bless him.
