i wanted to upgrade....but wouldnt that be much more fun and rewarding to build that and show it off......i like that idea better than spending money on a new bike.

uhh where is the exhaust routed.

bling bling.  it's still a gs.

Well, I think the bike looks just SWEEEEEET!!!! Looks like it could fly...great job...nuthin' quite like doin' it up yerself is there. 8)

				Yes it's still a Gs....
But a damn fine looking one....
The exhaust seems to be undertail ...look in the center of the "rear fender" area....you can make out a hash cut pipe I think....pretty sure anyway..
I LIKE it.
Nice work  Jim... very very cool looking Gs.

no, he has some kind of exhaust on it with pipes on both sides, i think he said z1000 where there's two on each side, he just doesn't have them on in that picture, check out the thread called franken gs and checkout the link, there's more pictures of it there

I like it, very nice work.  That tail is off of a XBS right?  Was it much trouble making everything fit?

				each to their own.....

				:dunno:
Looks kinda gross to me.
Laura

I wonder if he takes that lump of wood everywhere it goes?

Thats pretty sweet, a little less bling would be nice, but I would ride that anywere.

After watching Jundie's Streetfighter videos on the Odds and Ends forum, I almost traded my GS500 for a 1200 Bandit to trick out. This GS500 looks awesome in it's Streefighter clothes. The only thing I wouldn't do that seems to be common is the nearly vertical seat. :?  What's up with that? Do humans ride these things? Just a little comfort would go a long way.

see it this way...streetfighters are mean ass machines. mean ass machines ride on rear wheels. so your normal seat is not so comfartable then...:P so lets put it at an angle ;). the ass in the sky thing is typical streetfighter thing and in germany they usually make it too high imho. in holland we call it banana ass. i like them high in the air but not the german style...
i have something that in my eyes is also a streetfighter. not everybody might thing the same way but thats the thing with streetfighters, there's no clear definition...

Thanks, Jundie. Now I understand "the look".

Love the paint job, really like the chrome too.  But, well, the seats a little too much bling for me.  I agree with the other poster, I don't see how that's comfortable for more than 5 minutes.  But it's not my bike, so who the hell cares!!
Amazing work, really shows some skill and dedication.  I probably would have dumped the cash into a more expensive bike.  I wonder what sort of engine mods this thing has.  If it's just a cosmetic job, then it's like all the rest of the kids in my town with 500 pounds and $10,000 worth of wings, air scoops, crazy paint jobs, fart-can exhaust, bling-bling rims, and super-loud stereos in their Civic all on a stock engine.  Nice, definately, shows a lot of passion, but I just don't get it.  But to each his own! Whatever makes ya happy in this crazy world

Quote from: johncam4uhh where is the exhaust routed.
The exhaust is not still on the GS. At the end of this month I build it on.
This is the exhaust I still take on my GS:

Its from a Kawa Z1000.

What's still stock? I figure that's a shorter list than what's not.
Ride It Well!! Butt in air and all....

Alot of work really went into that. They did an imaculate job with all the mods on it. I do have to say though, that I am not a fan of the tail section shoting to the stars like that. I would love to see down more a bit closer to normal. I sopoze it wouldn't be the bike it is then though. Oh well, nice job.

				ok now its better again
i saw your bike on the 2004 fighterama and i didn't really like the tail..especially the paintbrushed mask on the undertray, BUT it looks like you are chenging it again...looks good this time, very nice fender as well  :thumb:

I really like Jim's GS.  Some may not get it or like it.  But that's hot.
I am encouraged to see people using the GS as a platform to carry out some outrageous ideas.   I think it is a good canvas for this type of expression.  And Jim is a master at his craft.
Keep up the good work Jim, and start making some custom parts for us, too!

That yellow bike is fine from the side, from the front or rear ... that tail is actually faaaar too fat for it, That is an R6 tail. And the undertail area is too fat for the skinny ass 130 rear tire and makes it look even skinnier than it is.
Cool.
Srinath.

the new project is still going on and its a long way to finish it. in november 08 is a fighter bike show in germany and i present the bike there.
on the Eightball is coming a new frontend in the next two weeks. its wide enough to take the 5,5x17 frontwheel with 180/55-17 tyre.
it is from this bike:
(http://suche.aol.de/aol/redir?src=image&clickedItemURN=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.www.lexington-studios.com%2FAaron_s_Fat_Boy_01.JPG&moduleId=image_details.jsp.M&clickedItemDescription=Image%20Details)

				servus,

2 new pics are in the gallery.

				Servus,
so the first plans for the new front on the eightball in labor.
the good thing is that the harley parts can continue to be used and hence the cool light output is maintained. perhaps only on ne 100 watt bulb change.
shocksystem fare is about 750 eu, wheel just as much. plus the cost of materials, tire, chrome and registration.
So keep in limitless.
started when the TÜV is convinced by the plan and its ok there.

Hi JIM my name is LUKAS I live in Poland. I'am watching your bike mods since long time, tons of great work. I wanted to ask you about the mods with the bandit 12 swingarm (if it's not a secret :icon_mrgreen:) I'am modding my GS ( http://forum.gs-500.de/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=33270) and i want to ask you how you solved problem with clutch pusher, if you have had any problem at all, because with your offset sprocket this problem may not exist, I'am gonna have more offset and I need to solve that pusher prob. I've got some ideas but I'am curious what do you think about that?

Servus,
no problem because during secrets B12 remodeling. Just need to change the swingarm and other rifles for use within axis. will still need an offset pinion with 5 mm offset and no longer 5mm clutch pressure rod. Also you need to cover pinion set 3mm to the outside.
Because I make your remodeling later with pictures of a solution.

Thank's Jim. Pics can be very helpful. I'am on a good way to put it all together with your help it can be much easier.

I dont think you'll have any clearence issues.... Good god that thing looks like its pointing at the moon. I like the look but the tails a liitle high to me.

				+1
I think the tail would look and feel much better if it was mounted in a more shallow angle, but I guess it's a part of the whole European street-fighter theme.
Other than that, I love every bit of it.
Jim, what sort of frame mods were necessary to fit the R1 swingarm?

kinda reminds me of a cat with its arse in the air... lol. I think the angle compared to the tank is just about spot on, I think its the shock or the dogbones that throws it so far in the air. see the angle of the bottom of the frame. Like I said before I still like it but just a little awkward looking to ride looks painfull, not to mention the angle of the shifter. Jim, have you ridin it any yet? Just wondering how it feels.

the tail is coming deeper, when i have the new dogbones! :icon_mrgreen:
there no modifications at the frame. i1m live in germany! :icon_mrgreen:
the mod is in front of the r1 swingarm. thats a lot of work, because the original swingarm is very wide in the front. the next problem was to fit the rear wheel kompatible with the brake and chain.
@chanse: no riding yet, possible in a few weeks.

thats pretty freaking sweet. the rear tire on that bike looks to be about as wide as the 245's i run on my car!

This is strictly personal opinion of course but that is by far not the nicest gs ever. Maybe the most expensive? :thumb:

I agree with stuck-to-the-seat.  These are very unique show bikes, works of art of the finest imagination and craftsmanship, with untold hours of labor and huge cash invested, but I wouldn't want to ride either one more than a few miles.  This is how you get a bike pictured in magazines, not for riding.  When a bike goes through this it lives forever and dies at the same time.  It will forever be a work of art going from show to show but it will never again have significant miles put on it.  All practicality has been lost in the quest for unique beauty, and boy, did he ever succeed!

Yes girder ... more precisely a durfee style girder. Heavy as a pig, wont take a disk brake without some mods, but is rake adjustable by making just a pair of dogbones. Longer = more rake. Simple.
But well ... on my savage with the extra weight and the extra rake and what not it would have handled like a  ... well a tank ...
Cool.

Old gsxrs are some of the sweetest looking bikes ever made, assuming you're going to pull the plastic off and do a tail swap. Considering what Jim does, I assumed that is what was coming. You should pick up a 750 and start on that. It was a better bike anyway!

The Ide is not bad, I have only about our TÜV clarify whether it is registered. Only what I do then at the fork, if the light is gone?
Since this morning the new wheel with new tire size is mounted. 6,5 x17 with 200/50-17 tires. Great and beautiful wide.
I ran after pictures.

The front brake calipers are supported by a homemade holder, but this is not done yet.

Yea ... durfee girder forks ... you can change the rake angle by changing a linkage in the upper forks ... love em ... sadly they weigh like 600 lb ... There is one guy who as em on a savage ... in my case I went with a dirt bike FE and made the triples for it.

the upper lever opens to the left and therefore the tank lid is to be opened to the right. Actually, quite simply.

It does provide more braking.A little unusual but Jim always thinks up new ways to get things done.

Servus,
The brake must be so because it is the braking of the rear wheels. There would be a caliper too little and therefore have built two of them and they, too, now outstanding. The whole thing was also approved by the German TÜV.
The next bike then what is tasted like.

Just curious, and maybe I missed it earlier in the thread. But how did you solve the ratio difference between the master cylinder and having dual pistons to fill when braking? Did you use a master cylinder from another bike that was made for a larger CC piston caliper?

I can't answer for Jim,but an 88-97 GSX600/750 Katana has a 5/8 inch Nissin master cylinder.The GS5 sports a 1/2 inch unit.It should bolt up on a GS.

I would think by doubling the volume of the calipers you would need to double the volume of the master cylinder to keep the correct ratio. Anything less and you may not have adequate pressure for full brake application.
I also wonder if the added friction to one rotor would quickly overwhelm the rotor and cause heat warping.
I love that he was thinking outside the box and trying something different though.

				Servus,

it was used a caliper to the caliper of the GS and GSXR. The master cylinder is a 5/8 of the GSXR 1100.
The braking effect is enormous, and there are no thermal problems with the brake disc.
This will on occasion even replaced by a disc from braking.

awesome, I'm glad it all worked out. I was just curious how you overcame all those possible issues. Like I said, I love that you are thinking outside the box, it shows real creativity.

				Servus,
what else can I do, but to test yourself and try. But that's the attraction of custommizing.

so simple it is again not make the air filter up. You've got no place with the original tank. You have to at the appropriate point cut and weld in a shell.
This is exactly why I immediately built a new tank and assembled elsewhere.

Servus,
thanks for the praise and indeed it is a button with thread. The thick Reien can drive very well if you have practiced a little bit. The curved line is rather different than in the series bikes. But it makes a lot of fun and that's the most important.

				Makes sense.
Just had to ask. I have never seen that before. Looks really good...

				Servus,
the brake is taken from the original OR rear brake and tested before installation.
Due to the small brake calipers the brake disk can cool fast enough.
The original disk is eventually replaced by a wave plate and thus are better values to be expected.
But nice that you like my stuff, I'm building there.

How long ago was it put on display?!!! I visited a friend in Germany earlier this year (April?) and he brought me to that museum... there was a lot of stuff to take in, but I am sure that GS would have stuck out in my mind!!

I want you to build me one of those. . my next bike will be a gs of course , and id love to have a Jim Knopf exhaust of that caliber. Has Jim Knopf ever explained why he uses the humble GS500 as his custom bike platform?

That's a good question.  I bet it's some euro license stuff.  Like you can get away with doing whatever you want on the gs but step up to bigger cc's and there's some hoops you have to jump through :dunno_black:
