General GS500 Discussion / Carburetor issues

Seeing as this is just open to air, does it matter that the end broke off?
Or will that matter

Normally with the GS on the centrestand there is about 15mm between the tyre and the ground so I shove a 19mm thick fence paling under the tyre which makes removing and replacing the rear axle super easy. In its' current configuration with the swingarm bent the tyre is hard on the ground so I expected removing the rear axle to be a battle but it ended up being relatively easy.
I removed the rear wheel to make sure there was no load on the swingarm so I could see if the swingarm shaft was hard to remove due to a bent frame or not. It came out easy so the frame isn't bent in a way that binds the swingarm shaft. That makes me happy to continue with the repairs :)

Here is a pic of my improvised mechanics seat (Not Recommended)

The carbs on a 2009 are 3 circuit and 34mm and on a 1992 they are 2 circuit and 33mm. You may need to change the manifolds as well....
The jetting should be close enough to start with.

I have a 2009 Suzuki gs500 my question is will carbs off a 1992 gs500 work on a 2009 Suzuki gs500. The pair system is deleted and everything is capped off my concern is the jetting 37.5/122.5 is this enough compared to the stock carburetor which we all know is 17.5/60/130 or do I need to be richer? Bike is stock.  Thanks guys hope someone can help

I've been trying to post but idk how to I'm new here and it brought me here.  Has anyone used the first generation carbs of the gs500 on a newer model (2009 gs500) if so is the stock jets(37.5/122.5) good or do they have to be changed to a different size?

Right now my goal is to just get the bike back to factory settings since I know that in theory there's fuel/air/spark

Easy mate, let us know how it goes. It's possible setting your floats appropriately will be the fix.

Quote from: voughtcorsair on September 22, 2025, 05:25:47 AMGood morning,

Just picked up my '02 GS500 a week ago and she's been having nothing but problems. At first, she wouldn't start (charged battery) then would stall almost immediately at idle (cleaned carbs, put floats as high as possible,) and now it over-revs at random - talking a random climb to 6-7k RPM in first/second gear without touching the throttle. Idles really high (hangs?) and then will slowly come down in RPM. Seems like some kind of leak. Ordered new gaskets for the bowl since those were disintegrating & today will be readjusting throttle cable and setting floats to 14mm. Any other things to check on if those ideas don't work? I just wanna ride this thing before it gets too cold! Thanks in advance for any help :)

Also, is your bikes operation and sound normal, or are there obvious clacking noises? If your bike sounds normal, there's probably nothing wrong with it.
