did you check timing and valve gap? too loose timig chain  could have skipped some teeths on the cams if runs too rough

you have 3d stl printable replqacements for the trip plastic knob, and maybe it fits from other bike
starwalts is magneto epoxy glue coming off(brownish red, more brown as it ages) ,crumbling and shattering, extreme cases clog the oil pickup screen, you have to check oil pan and stator cover

in the service manual you have standard measurements to check electrical components with a multimeter

   so, i had problem like month ago, bike shut off in midle of ride, no ppower from NEW batery that i bought in june... pushed it for around 20 miles and tryied to charge batery, its dead, 10 volts after charging it for 15 hours... so i got new batery and i got power but momen i started to turn on bike, cdi started smoking, i thinked its probably regulator so i get "new" cdi, new regulator... bike started, but voltage is droping when i pull the trotle, all light where blown, so im thinking, is stator finished also or its not the stator problem? or thats nowmal for voltage to drop? its 12.7 when it shuts off, but when i start the bike it drops... on 5000 rpm it goes 12.4 max... stator gone? cause i read somwehre its should charge around 13.5 to 14.5 volts. sorry for bad english, also i did order new stator, its chinease but i think its gonna do the work at least for a few years until i decide to try to restore whole bike to new condition

Other than buying a used carburetor off eBay is there anywhere else I can find just the brass choke tube for a 1996     GS500 E
