I am going to get a pipe, pod filter and a jet kit but, for my 2000 the only jet kit made is a stage 1.  I know I can just buy jets and shim needles but I like the idea of just buying a kit and installing it.

So the question is this.  With a pod filter do you need a stage 3 or will a stage 1 jet kit work.

What about just a K&N and the factory box?

Gisser

Primarily, the difference between Stage 1 and 3 is that the latter comes with larger main jets needed to properly carburet without the airbox.  But, you know, the GS500 is not restricted like a European beginner's bike.  Removing the airbox will  not uncork 4-5-6-7 additional horsepower.  It doesn't look  cool in this age of ram-air and it's not worth the trouble.  Keep the bike in like new condition.  Stage 1 has no drawbacks.

Kit... OK if you think jet kit is easier you are in for a shock... Ask mercdude63 if you want tips... along with some jetting nightmares... I am working on 2 bothced carbs with DJ kits in them right now...and if I never see a DJ kit in a GS again... it will be too soon... Or fine hopefully I'll learn and be smarter next time I see them...
Cool.
