Has anyone replaced the coils with bigger ones?   Anyone do water/ alcohol injection?

I was just wondering if anyone has had good results or problems with doing so.  Can the alternator handle the extra current required by coils?

Thanks,

Would you be attempting alcohol/water injection foor cooling purposes or for some performance goal?  In the GS engine I can only see potential gains in cooling ability, and massive amounts of logistical problems with water tanks, pumps, tubing, high current draw, etc.  Not sure about the coils, but rest assured that someone who races has done something.

Probably not worth trying water injection in anything less than 20 litres displacement  :o

20 Liters!! That's 1200 cubes, wow!! Big motor...that would make a bike go. Loving the small Suz and of course this forum too.

As for an aftermarket coil you might improve performance and fuel mileage at most 1% due to a hotter spark that should burn all of the fuel better.  If your coil was bad I would think about replacing it with an aftermarkert one such as a Nology ProFire which would run you about $100 after shipping.  If you decide to go that route of replacing your coil make sure your new coil is designed with the same Ohm's rating or you will cook your Ignition CD box.

As for the water injection it would improve your performance and gas milage about the same as a new coil but only if it it was set up properly.  You would need to do some fine adjustments to your carbs to get the most out of the system.  Probaly noy worth the time and the money to set up.
