Do I need new carbs?

So, I've been having so many problems with my carbs (I did a rebuild and everything) and no luck in fixing my high idle that I finally took my bike into the shop.  It ends up that the left cylinder wasn't firing at idle.  The mechanic took the whole thing apart and everything was fine with the engine and the carbs are balanced and look okay, but the left one isn't letting fuel through at idle.  He said if he pulled the choke out a little it would work, but he took the carbs apart about four times and can't figure out what's going on.  He said he feels my only option is to buy new carbs.  Can anyone think of anything he may have missed or anything I can do?  I don't really have the money to buy new carbs, but it's starting to look like that's my only option.

I've revived 35 year old carbs. I can't imagine that is the only option.

Check the valves for problems, or try hotter plugs, Maybe replace the pilots. :dunno:

Thanks for the info.  The mechanic seems to be at a loss... he said he pulled the whole engine apart.  Don't know if he checked the valves or plugs... it seems like a pretty obvious thing to check and I don't want to sound condesending by asking him if he did.  Oh well...  I know my pilots are fine beause I've pulled the carbs twice myself.  Are there any parts of the carb that fuel flows through that may be harder to access/clean?

Sounds like a shoddy mechanic.
Find a new one.

How about spark? Are you getting spark in that cylinder? Did he check the coils?
The motorcycle is no longer the hobby, the skill has become the hobby.

Power does not compare to skill.  What good is power without the skill to use it?
