how about a photo "how-to" on each of the maintenance pages.

i'm up for taking the photos and sending in the step by step for several of the listed checks.

thoughts?

i'm not an admin or an owner, but i think that's a brill idea. The maintenance pages are helpful, but they only go so far.

While we're making suggestions, I've seen a lot of posts recently about common topics like valves, chains, shocks, etc.  Since it has all been covered before, there seem to be a lot of links to old posts that cover the subject well.  I was thinking maybe there could be some sort of "best of" or FAQ type thing that would link to all the useful and common posts from the past.  Maybe just do a sticky topic, or links from the maintenance page or something like that.  The only problem would be a time commitment from someone who knows their stuff (probably not me) to go back and find the good stuff.

Are you saying something like, doing a search on something and posting all the results?

[Search] - chain

Make a sticky of all the results for "chain"?
The motorcycle is no longer the hobby, the skill has become the hobby.

Power does not compare to skill.  What good is power without the skill to use it?

good judgement trumps good skills every time.

Yes, but not all the results, just the ones with helpful information and/or links.  This is why I say it may take some time and energy.

Oh, and my reasoning is that the same things seem to get posted many, many times, so when i do search for "chain" or something like that, I get pages of results.

one of the other sites I frequent has a FAQ question forum that does not allow replies but you can see the various subjects and browse them easily. That has been suggested here before but John doesnt have the time (or didnt).

Any of the maintenance items that dont have photos can have them added-if you want to take them and submit them John and the rest of the mods would be happy to take them.

I guess I could still post links to the beefed-up maintenance pages.  :(

Seriously, I think it's a great idea.  I had actually thought of photo-documenting all of the Chapter 0 and Chapter 1 tasks from the Haynes manual, but that would have been a LOT of work to do in any useful timeframe.

I now have pics of the rotor replacement process (both front and back) and of the rear brake pad replacement task as well.  I'll keep adding to my collection as I do more stuff, but having a great big pool of talent working on something like this would be great.

My pics are up for grabs - just ask if you don't see something in my online directories.  I have a number of GS500 maintenance-related  pictures that I haven't reduced and posted yet:

PS - Besides, I'm getting in the car tomorrow and driving to Pasadena.  I may be offline for a WEEK.  :o   ("Can he DO it folks?")
