I want to buy a manual that will provide technical information on my GS500F.  I understand that my bike is mechanically similar to the GS500E.

I have found a clymers manual called "Suzuki GS500 Twins, 1989-2002". Should I purchase this book, or look for something specific to the GS500F.

I think that may be the best available at the moment, someone did mention getting a supplement from a dealership.

Just above "log-in" to the right you can buy the manual on this site.

i've got that manual and an '04 GS. I've referred to it to replace parts of the alternator, clutch plates/springs, fork springs, etc. So far, its been accurate. besides, I don't think there is a newer clymer out yet.

Your 2004 is a moderate evolutionary step away from the 1989 GS500E.  The only mentionable changes between 1989 and 2000 (besides paint colors) were a countershaft/front sprocket change in 1994 and a front caliper change in 1996.  The bike went through a mostly cosmetic makeover in 2001, getting a new seat, a new tank, new side plastics, new handlebar control housings, and a different text font for the speedo and tach.

On the "technical" side, the 2001 got new carburetors, a DUAL-cable throttle setup, a new choke cable arrangement and a new fuel selector switch.

From what I understand of the '04, the main differences from the '01 are the fairing (of course), an oil cooler, new forks, and possibly an upgraded front brake caliper.

To learn about the Suzuki shop manual supplement that addresses the 2004-specific portions of the bike, see the Shop Manual for 2004 F thread.

PS - If you haven't already ordered the Clymer, give a thought to the Haynes 1989-2002 (hardcover!) manual as well.  If you follow the "Buy A Repair Manual" link at the top of this page it will take you to an Amazon.com page for the Clymer manual.  Look at the related links on that page for the Haynes manual.  If you can afford it, get both and enjoy free shipping!  :thumb:
