Cold weather gloves?

It was chilly this morning, so I had to ride into work with winter gloves ON TOP of my Alpinestars SP-S gloves (http://www.newenough.com/alpinestars_sps_gloves_page.htm) to keep my hands from turning blue. Needless to say I could barely move my hands, but they were toasty warm!

Can anyone recommend good inexpensive cold weather riding gloves?

I'm also looking for something to protect my neck/chin from that upbreeze, and perhaps some cold weather boots...?

Thanks in advance!

Inexpensive?

I'd still suggest TourMaster Cold Front Carbon gloves @ $60sometin. And, glove liners, Thinsulate glove liners. Sooo, nice. I was all warm and toasty this morn.

Also, do a search on 'gloves' or 'cold'.

I had to ride home from Simi Valley this morning and got quite a bit of that cold upbreeze that hits the neck and face. Anybody have a solution?

Neck and face - get a baclava
OR
Sometimes iwear a track jacket w/ the collar zipped up under my leather and it reaches into my helmet.  Plus it's stylin off the bike.

Found some gloves for $35 at the local Kawa dealer and they have Thinsulate, I think they're waterproof too.

Just wondering what a Baclava is? I always thought it was food. Is it like a ski mask? or a bandana?

I haven't used a balaclava yet, but I'd like to try one sometime.

What I have used for the past 2 or 3 winters is "Turtle Fur" ... an 8-inch fleece tube that I pull over my head before I put on the next layers.  After I pull my helmet on I tuck it UP into the helmet before I cinch the strap.  For me it works best when I bring the front of it up high enough to cover my lips.

Does anyone sell dickies anymore?  They're kind of like a turtleneck (just the neck part) with an attached "bib" that covers the front of the neck and the upper chest.  I guess you could also think of it as a turtleneck sweatshirt with the sleeves and back and most of the rest of it cut off.

I found a balaclava at NewEnough.com. It's an HJC. I wonder if Shoei makes a balaclava... http://www.newenough.com/product_group_helmets_accessories.htm

Oh that's a baclava! That seems like it would be perfect for cold weather riding. I'm ordering one right away.

Yeah I'm probably going to buy one this weekend at the dealership. Hopefully they'll have some lower prices (without shipping).

I have seen people using those neck and chin cold weather things that skiiers wear.  I think I will try one of those.

Jen, where did you find them?

I got a pair of Tour Master PolarTex gloves from New Enough recently.  I think they were about $40.  It worked out well since I was buying a bunch of other stuff (rain gear) from them anyway, it was only like $1 extra for shipping.

They're nice.  Sorta bulky, but I'm finding that I can control the bike just fine anyway.  They're defintely warm, and the gauntlet zippers are nifty.  I haven't tried them in heavy rain yet, so I can't comment on their waterproof-ness.

This morning it was about 50 - 55 degrees on my way to work.  My hands were a little chilly by the 45 minute mark (my commute's an hour each way, about 95% freeway), but I was still decently comfortable when I got here.  Glove liners are necessary for long rides at lower temperatures.  I'll be wearing some on my way home...

From what I've read, electric gloves are the only real solution for long rides in really cold weather.  Expensive, though (like $250).  Hand-guards like you see on dirtbikes are helpful for keeping the wind off, though.  I'm thinking about getting a set.

Wait, I think these Revolution gloves are for ATVing though.  Hmm.  Don't know how well they'd handle the wind on a bike, and there's really no protection other than from water...don't think I'm gonna keep em.  It's too bad - they're nice-lookin gloves.

(I hadn't gone there myself to pick them out.)

For the cold I wear my "summer" gloves, roomy single-layer leather with woolen "Thinsulates" inside, it works for me. I give the gloves an occasional rub over with leather dubbin to stop them cracking, keep them soft and waterproof. Wet or cold I can handle, wet and cold is bad news.

I have both a neck-tube, given away with "Bike" mag last winter and a Balaclava in rare snowy-cold situations I wear them both together but normally one is enough. They both fold to nothing so I normally keep one in the bike-jacket pocket.
