ok so i know you gotta change the speedo to MPH (u.s. spec) but is there some weird tax to import or title it in the US on arrival. i bought a used car once from a dealer that converted the odometer and made it exemt on my papers but i dont know what kinda stuff they did to get it on their (u.s.) lot before i bought it. im right on the border so i thought ide ask. im thinking i can maybe get a BLACK gs500F if its not too much $$$ and hassle. or at least knowing i can buy a used one from canada would be helpful too.

well about 99% of the time the US bike is cheaper than the Canadian bike....just go to suzuki.com and suzuki.ca and compair prices...

but if you decide to buy you will have to get some paperwork for the boarder and be ready to pay the tax...i bought my bike in michigan and brought it back to Canada so i know about those taxes...i wouldn't know much about the other way but you can call them and ask

hey man, you wanna know why the prices are cheaper? their dollar is worth more. In the end its the same price if our dollar would be 1-1.

i also had a friend that i dont keep in touch with anymore and he had a honda (vtr nighthawk I think???) i would know if i saw it, anyway,...he got it used from canada and braged about how he had the ONLY blue one in the US because i think it only came in red. it doesnt answer my question but i know its possible to do. anyone ever import themselves?

and yes the canadian dollar is not equal to US dollar, i know. a new GS in canada is same as US cost.

eww that is a big difference. but the quotes i got are a little different from last month. they go like....

1.4299 OTD us dollars (san diego)
2.4599 otd here in WA.
3.4900 OTD in vancouver CA. (in US dollars) but yeah the first canadian quote i got was equal to 5400 us dollars.

why so much cheaper than your quotes? i just shot an email to a vancouver dealer about importing regulations and costs. Ill let you know if they know.

yeah there is a '04 naked gs500 at my dealer.....it has a black frame, oil cooler, electric tach and some other things i noticed but can't remember now

no no, it's electric.....it's not mechanical like the older models....it still has a needle and everything looks the same just uses a wire connected to the coil insted of a cable from the engine

so was it expensive to transfer your bike to canada? what kinda fees did you pay to actually get a license plate on it? of course i want to do it the other way around CA>US but im curious?
