One side of the seat isn't clicking in place, any suggestions? I have plenty of time now so no rush in an answer...it snowed today :(

Kerry

Take the seat off and watch how the mechanism operates:

UNLOCKED

LOCKED

Do the locking tabs extend the same amount on each side?  If not, maybe the mechanism or the cable needs to be cleaned or lubed.

Next, check the notched "posts" attached to the underside of the seat -- the ones that push down into the holes with the locking tabs.  Is one of the posts bent?  Sitting higher than the other?  Worn out somehow?

My guess is that either you're not pushing down on the right place when you lock the seat (right between the posts) or you're not pushing down hard enough.  I usually give it a whack with my fist, but leaning on it with more weight might help.

My most common problem is with the junk I keep under the seat, I know it sounds obvious but make sure you are not obstructing it, I tend to keep a couple of cloths for drying the seat mirrors etc under there. I usualy push firmly in place rather then whack it and listen for the double-click.

In Cricket the testicular guard, or Box, was introduced in 1874. The helmet was introduced in 1974. Is there a message??

Maybe somebody was trying to steal your helmet?  ;)

Someone stole my helmet once by prying up the seat enough (bare-handed!) to remove the helmet.  The locking mechanism was funky after that, one side would not latch.  I opened up the locking mechanism (the one in Kerry's picture) and it turned out that one of the two latches was not coming out fully.  Straightened some bent metal and it worked better than before after that.  The latching/locking mechanism is pretty simple so if you have to open it up it should not be a problem at all.

Underneath the seat on each side there is a metal hook that you can put the d-rings on, then put the seat back on.

Ed89

Yep, as iandunn said.

You can actually see the metal hook in Kerry's photo.  It's on the top two corners of each photo, which should be about 2 inches to the front of the latching mechanism.  (Kerry: How come you have a silver hook and a black hook?  The silver one looks like it is welded on.  The black one look like both of mine--bolted on the frame.)

Anyway, you hook the "D" on the strap of your helmet to the, uh, hook, and then put the seat on.

You know, I don't think I EVER noticed the different colors before.  I just went out and checked, and you're right - the left one is welded and the right one is bolted on.  :dunno:
