Race Tail Question

Well, since JamesG is departing us, this weekend i plan on using my bike to try and design a nice sleek looking race tail. I have plenty of industrial fiberglass (boating glass) and resin. However im torn a tad, here is my problem. I know the best way for me to do this would be to buy a set of crappy plastics and a seat however i dont have one, so im working with what i have. I plan on putting protective plastic on my plastics and seat before molding. However, if i do a full casting mold of the seat and tail (possibly take the seat off and carve a piece of foam that will come up to the rear height i want and level the seat out even with the tank) how will i get it off? Or even make it prouctive? I know the best way would be to do a negative mold, but with the curves on the lower portion of the plastics on the '01 any mold will get stuck around that...SO of anyone knows the process James uses, or perhaps has any insight please let me know, and osrry for making you read the long post. THANKS!
-Dan

Don't count out James' stuff so quickly. I contacted him about taking over his work while he is gone playing tank boy.

dgyver-Any idea on the progress of the retro-fit kit that James was planning for the 00 and older bikes?  I've got a dent in my '00 tank, so I'd be looking for a set of swap out plastics...

Hey Guys,

I'm just going on a long vacations not a life sentence!  :P

I'm talking to Darrell about taking over the production. I had just finished a mold and prototype for a 01+ tail plastics, and have the two upper parts of the 01+ tank done.

James-  Very true, I know I've tended towards thinking about things happening within 2-3 months (about a semester or so) as being long term, so a year and half seems way out there, which obviously isn't true.  That tail looks so nice...I'd hate to cover it up with paint or put it on my bike...

More or less no compromise. However im going to be putting a seat on it and using it for street only. You can use it for either or, however you loose storage space (unless my mods pan out) and the ability to carry a passenger (im making it a quick swap mod so i can use the stock plastics and seat for passengers). Not exactly sure ont he cost, im assuming it will cost the same as the 89-00 but dyguyver will have to chime in or James himself..

no one will ever EVER be on the back of anything im on. i could never deal with .....ya know if they got hurt :(   once i refused to drive a friend home, dont know why , guess i did not want to leave yet so i made her go with some one else, that night on my way back home i rolled my car throu a ditch and sevral times into a field.  if she would have been with me and had gotten hurt wich she would have, i would never be ablt to forgive my self. so a solo seat is kind of an insurance policy for my concience    they cant get on they cant get hurt.. :thumb:

has anyone thought about taking on the task of making a solo seat cover for the 89-00 bikes?  I'd be VERY intersted in one.  I really don't like the banana seat, and I would just like a solo cover.  That would IMO really make the bike look hott!
