Subject says it all.  Is there a torque spec for the nuts that go over the oil filter cover?

I sheared off the bolt by tightening too much before, hoping I can avoid repeating that...

I looked in the Suzuki service manual and the Clymer manual, neither one has a specific torque spec. Just "tighten securely". For that size bolt, 5 ft-pounds should be enough.
Common sense in not very common.

Ok thanks for the response.  I didn't see anything in my service manual either.  But clearly, I already applied too much torque to one of the bolts!  :dunno:

Anyways, I'll see how 5 ft-lb works out.

ASLAM.

It can help to use your 1/4"-drive socket wrench.  Not that you couldn't still strip the nut and/or stud, but you'd have to do it on purpose.  ;)

Those bolts are notorious for stripping. Critical, too. After having read many reports on stripped bolts I applied the generally stated torque for soft (4 stamped) 5 mm bolts). With the result that one of them worked itself loose and I got a nice burned oil finish on my headers. Was lucky that it just dripped and did not drain.
