hey kerry, it's a 1993 model.  any help you can give would be appreciated.

Kerry

Rats!  I've never worked on a pre-'95 front brake, but here are the steps for a (dirty) 1996+ unit:

thanks a lot kerry,  i'm gonna try that right now and see if it's the same.  hopefully it is.  thanks again.

Dorianfes

sorry kerry, but no luck.  i don't have on of those clips or one those bolts even.  here's how the brake pad is held in.  under the rubber thing there's a circular clip?  i think.  on top of the rubber thing there is another clip.  dont' know what that does either?  sorry the pic is so big.

That's OK - I actually have pictures of a couple different '95 front calipers.  They're just not disassembled!

If you like, I can scan you a couple of pages from my Haynes manual that will walk you through the entire process.  A few of the pictures are kinda "washed out" but the text should make up for it.

yeah, if you can scan the manual for me that'd be great

Kerry

The pages are on the way.

But you gotta promise me that you'll buy a manual as soon as possible, K?  :thumb:

that's the thing.  i have one..... except it's in chicago, while right now i'm in new york

O, I C.

Ya gotta hate that!  :x

Meanwhile, here are a pair of diagrams from the page AFTER the ones I sent you.  They give a rough idea of the differences between the two front caliper styles.  But unless I'm badly mistaken they're shown in MUCH different orientations - almost 180 degrees off from each other!

hey thanks for all the help kerry.  it totally helped out.  my front brake feels so much better with the new pads.  i was also finnally able to get the screws off for the brake fluid reservoir.... filled up on brake fluid, and new pads... it's amazing how much more confident i am at riding.... anyway, thanks again.
