Has anyone ever installed an K+N filter RU-2970? I believe it allows you to remove the airbox completely, just an oval design that hooks up the the carbs...does anyone have pics of it installed. Damn, and I just picked up my K+N stock replacement :( .

Yes, you remove the airbox completely.  I also found that if you take the oval shaped rubber boots from the box and "glue" them to the filter, it will be much easier to get the new filter to attach to the carbs.  I tried it the old way and the hard plastic of the filter was a pain to get stretched over the oval shape of the carb.  Many people here may disagree, but I found this to be an easier way to remove and reinstall the filter.

Damn and i just bought that other one... no returns. Do you have a picture of how it looks on the bike at all.

No pictures as yet, bike is disassembled for the winter, hopefully I'll actually get some free time to get everything I need fixed done before spring.  Though if you ever see a picture of the filter it doesn't look any different on my bike as any other just actually sticks a tad bit further out, not really noticable though.

There's a pic on Joris' website...

Probably can't tell from the outside unless you're looking for it.. I'm putting mine on by the end of the week I hope. Search for "lunchbox filter" on here and you'll find quite a bit of info..

Is there an added benefit to having this type as opposed to the K&N stock replacement one?

Does anyone know how much these ones are compared to the K&N stock replacement ones? I paid $75 Cdn for mine.

The RU 2970 types flow more, like 20% more... they are dirtier, but I dont believe its any dirtier than a air box K&N ... so you screwed either way ... Paper in airbox or Total open element K&N... I dont do airbox K&N ...
Cool.

Remember to rejet for the RU-2970, and srinath will correct me if I am wrong, but I remember his saying something to the effect that the RU-2970 doesn't help performance unless you put on an aftermarket exhaust.

The Buddha

Pretty much... exhaust with stock air box will be more of a jump in power than K&N with stock pipe ... all with appropriate jetting ...   ...
