Trashed turn signal; replaced turn signal. Won't work!

I replaced the trashed front turn signal with a new unit; checked all the bulbs in the circuit.  Nothing.  Headlights, tail light and horn work.  The bike starts and runs fine.  To quote another poster here, "I may begin drinking heavily."  Reviewed the wiring diagram.  OK, where does one begin to figure this out.  Hmmm, maybe another beer will help...

All help will be appreciated.  (just don't suggest that I trade the bike in for a 650 VStrom.  I'm already weakening.)

Thanks.

If you bought a stock OEM light, there should be two male/female connections: one black wire, one black with a white stripe.  They are interchangable.  Make sure they are plugged in all the way and make sure that you didn't disconnect one of the female connectors while pulling the original signal off.  Then, check your fuse and my last word of advice is to buy a new 2 prong flasher.  The ones you buy from the dealer are no different from the ones you would buy at Wal Mart, but the stock one clips onto the frame and costs more.   If you can live without that luxury and feel comfortable just laying the new flasher up under the seat then you can save yourself a little bread.

There is the slight chance if all your other signals work, that the wires may have come disconnected inside the stalk by the bulb. You may want to return the signal you got and try another, if that doesnt work then i would start by tracing all your wires back and double/tripple checking your lights. The wire may be cut somewhere along the way and grounding out. Anyways, just somewhere to start.

Thank you, Dom and Dan.  I'll try a new flasher tomorrow.  The only other thing I have not checked is the turn signal indicator bulb.

Take the turn signal indicator bulb out, start your bike and try your signals again. The bulb was the reason for my recent turn signal hair pulling. I took EVERYTHING that had anything to do with the turn signals apart, and finally one day i reached back and pulled that bulb out. Voila, they worked.

....well, I replaced the flasher (OEM - world's most expensive flasher) and  SHAZAAM the signals worked fine.  Thanks for the suggestions!

Happy holiday.  Ride safe.
