Hey guys!! Long time no talk!

hey i was just gettin my bike running again (been sitting for a few months) and i think the plugs are fouled... but anyhow.. i have another problem.

The battery was about dead... so i used a trickle charger.. but i left it on for about three days ( i forgot!  :dunno: )...

The lights turn on and the horn works, but when i go to crank it.. the starter just clicks... and doesnt do anything :(

I dont know if i blew the starter ( i was cranking her a lot a few days earlier, trying to start it)... or if the battery is screwed..

Any thoughts?

Sounds like there still isn't enuf juice in the battery.  Did you check the water levels?  Could be something wrong with the trickle charger too.

Rashad

Hmm... well, the water is low... what do i need to do to the water before i pour it in there?

You can test the batttery charge with a multimeter.

If the battery is holding proper charge (I think >12volts, but you'd have to check the manual for the specs), then

1) Check for loose of corroded contacts between battery and wires to starter relay.

2) Problem with your sidestand kill wire/switch

I was told by a mechanic I trust that the starters on the GS should not go bad unless you have at least 40-50K on the bike, and even then its not common.

Nothing ... use distilled water.
Cool.

No need to go to the store...just distill it in your bathtub like they do in North Cackalacky, ain't that right, Srinath?

Yea ... this place has so much underground money ... like it has the look of a poor town, but people gots money ... lots o money ... one part is that many people here moved from NY, NJ, MA, GA and even CA and selling their houses there netted them a huge ass load of $$$ and they bought a cheapo place here and are running around with loads of cash ... and of course other people have their own stills and are making moonshine ...
Cool.

Hey guys, well i took it out and hooked it to a charger... seems like the charger had actually dried all the water that was in there??? :?

I dunno if thats normal..

I put in a bottle of aquafina..LOL.. i hope thats distilled enough..

I then hooked it up to the trickle charger..

NOW.. i can hear it like.. boiling or "trickling" the water or something.. its making sounds... is that NORMAL?

I hope so...

The amperage meter seems like its going down though...

Anyone have any thoughts? This was an expensive battery too.. i believe its made by Yuasa.

Yep, that's normal.  Depending on how "see through" the battery case is, you should be able to see bubbles coming off the edges of the plates.

The meter goes down as the battery charges.  It's showing what it "needs" not what it "has" to oversimplify.  Or better yet, what its supplying to the battery.

Rashad

Ok, well i ended up charging it and then it just about killed itelf again(had to use the car battery).. i put new plugs in... starter fluid in the CYLINDER... three times.. then Finally it kept running..

SHES BACK! ...only to be winterized lol..

That had to be the coldest thing ever.. no helmet up my street (no traffic, dead end street) and back.. OMG. I let it idle for a while and i kept it revving to help charge the battery back up.
