I've got the wileyco muffler... it's great... except it is too loud.   If I lived in a house... okay.. fine not bad.

Living in my townhouse...  my neighbors 'house' is attached to mine.  And my muffler is simply just too loud..

If there's not a way to quiet it down then I've gotta trade someone for their stock exhaust.  If you have a stock exhaust system and live anywhere near atlanta then PM me......

treybrad

Ouch. That's no good. Coming home shouldn't be a problem.. you can shut it down quickly. But I'm guessing the problem is starting up, especially when it's cold and takes a while to warm up...

Anyway, sorry about that... I'm sure my neighbors aren't too keen on mine, but no one has said anything so...

the problem is warming up.  While noone's complained.. yet.. I live in a 'richerish' apt complex.  No kids.. mainly business people.  Me starting up at 7am, letting it warm up for 5 min or so isn't really a possibility.  coming home I literally coast into the garage.

OK then R&D from Srinath Labs will get on it ... How about sticking a extrusion piece ~ a foot long and welding a round flange to it and bolting that in the middle with the extrusion in the baffle ... OK confused ... OK ...
Just some flow dividing stuff ... sending the exhaust into small flow conduits will make it quieter ... Lets see ...
Cool.

And metallic cans are louder ... and angrier ... No sense swapping it now ... well Lemme cook up somehitng and then see ...
Cool.

The post office line was literally going down the sidewalk... so I didn't mail out the carbs today.... Should I mail you my muffler too?   :dunno:

you mean forcing the exhaust to go through the 'exhaust material'?  I thought of that, but decided it was a bad idea to try.....  I was actually very satisfied with the stock carbs/exhaust, etc etc... so I pretty much decided I was sick of looking at that pretty carbon fiber muffler just sitting there... and the dynojet carbs I paid good damn money for.. just going to waste.

kind of wish I had left it... honestly.. just because I'm really not interested  in the extra power too much

Maybe Srinath can whip you up some kind of removable baffle like the rice kids have for their mufflers?

Like This...

Could pop it in when warming up and take it out once you're down the driveway? I have no idea if something like that is possible...

rclz

no way you can make a baffle that just pops in the end?

if it can be done then srinath can do it..

the question is
1) CAN it be done?
2) WILL he do it?

Ohhh just hang some sound deadening foam all around the garage (kidding).  Maybe stuff some steel wool in the pipe and get a pony clamp to hold it in there (little spring clamps) while it warms up....maybe get rid of the rubber tips off the clamp and wrap it in something that can take the heat without melting or burning-and not scratch your pipe....

7 am isn't that early and you do PAY to live there..... What time does your neighbor go to work? Roll the bike outside and start it...that way everyone gets to listen to it sing....

Typically noise ordinances are in effect from 8pm to 8am.  If you can leave at 8 instead of 7 then you're good to go.

time isn't really the major factor.

it's really loud.  it's too loud.  Yes, I could probably be that loud and noone make a huge deal; but I guess I'd rather just respect everyone's elses soundspace/privacy or whatever...

gryhound89

if anyone complains tell them at least it's not a harley.....

my friend's silencer that came off his car (HKS exhaust off of a Fc3s Mazda RX-7), oddly fits on my F1s muffler I just bought.  Sounds wierd but does turn the decibles down.  It's the silencer type where you slap it at the hole end of the muffler, and tighten it w/ a screw..  see if you can go to your muffler shop and pick one up for like 20 bucks or something....

Wow.  That's mighty nice of you.  I wish more people were like that.

I was thinking I'll make a bolt in thing out of that adapter plate they had and use some aluminum extrusion ... the exhaust will get divided into small little flow conduits and will come out in many little streams ... wont hurt the flow that much ... and no need for the can ... remember I still have Laura's ...   baffles really send the exhaust into eddies ... the smooth baffle that can has is great for flow but doesn't do much for eddies ... now I'll send it into 5-6 small conduits and they should come out in eddies and re merge into the exhaust before exiting ... I can do a noise test as well ... now the main issue is ... finding that extrusion ... which I will prolly get to later next week, and if nothing turns up ... after new years ... shouldn't cost more than 10-20 bucks ... and most of that is for the aluminum welding ... I'll show you what I intend to do ... I have to find it first ... saw it 2 weeks ago ... but not there now  :x
Cool.

Actually that's why I LOVE the stock exhaust. It makes her sooo silent the guy next door would not even hear her when warming up.

It generates a sound level that makes people (including cops, I learned 8) ) un-aggressive towards bikers. Even if I do not have se7enty7's problem, I can perfectly understand the concern.

Wish more GS forum denizens would consider the consequences before hacking up their stock exhaust systems.  I try to warn them but no one wants to hear it.  Just want to hear the positive reinforcement

OK No problem with noise ever ... in 10 years never had any cop mention it... and when I got hit by a car ... the cop said she didn't hear you with that noise ... He didn't actually hear it ... cos the bike was busted in the crash ... and In Atlanta and Charlotte and most of US ... you'll get run over on the roads easily ... cos our cagers are blind ... remember last year that dude lowed into a flea market and killed 19 people ... every few months shaZam! like that happens ... dont exactly know for sure if the noise scares people off the collision course ... but I find less people put their turn signals on when I am in their blind spot with louder pipe that without ... Now se7enty7 lives in a more upscale area ... and he is a rather understated dude ... making the attention more objectionable ... I dont care ... I'd rather people woke up with my exhaust noise and stayed out of my way in their cages and go back to sleep after I am safe distance away and the noise has died down ... heck I might get ticketed for waking up the sleeping cagers ... I tell ya ... people buy bigger and more sound proofed vehicles as an alternative to learning to drive well ...
BTW this town has a large number of people on scooters and mopeds ... some of those are fast ... scooters especially ... I talk to one guy yesterday ... and get this ... he's on a scooter cos he has no license ... the judge took it away ... for a 3rd dui in under 3 years ... I tell ya ... stoopid people ... thousands of them all over the place ...
Cool.
