Hello,
i was just wondering what sort of acceleration and max speed the 2004 GS500F would give for a 6 foot, 85kg man?
any figures would be a good help.
thanks, and happy new year

Acceleration ... on a GS ... Naaaaaaa... its got 13 second 1/4 mile times and speeds in the mid 90's I think ...
Cool.

I've gotten my GS up to just over 110 no problems at all. I have an '01 with a decent amount of engine modes (Jets, Pods, Full Exhaust, Ignition Advancer, etc.). Im 6'2 220lbs (not sure about Kg conversion). At times if i yank the throttle it almost feels like it will throw me off (or it could just be my own stupidity). Anyways, if its acceleration your worried about, you can put a new front sprocket on there which will dramatically increase lower end power, if may decrease your top end, but not noticably plus with engine mods you can make up for the top end loss. Hopefully that made some sense :). Have a good one.

Did the 110mph include the optomistic speedo?

I was tucked in going down a hill with a long straight stretch of I77 and the speedo suggested 113 once... It might have really been 100... The bike was stock and I weigh about 200lbs without my gear and had a 15lb backpack strapped to the seat behind me... It felt like the 500f had a little more to give but I really enjoy my drivers license and backed off after a mile or so...   Keep it in the 80's and you'll love it...

I have a '04 500F and I am 6'2" about 180...

Acceleration - not much to say here...

Top Speed - I have gotten it up close to 120 with full tuck and no cars creating wind, but it starts to wobble real bad.

it shouldn't wobble...i've gone over 110mph many times...it never once wobbled.  :dunno:

I am a newbie rider and I don't think I have learned not to use the death grip when riding so I get the wobbles. That is the only thing I can think of if others don't wobble at higher speeds. Could tire balancing cause it, kinda like on cars?

yea, too much pressure on the bars ain't good...also make sure tire pressure is correct...

I've kept a tabulation of the test results from all the GS500/E/F tests I've found that have been published in the MC magazines since 1989.  The results have been pretty consistant except the tests for the 2001 and later model bikes show a drop performance.

Besides the major carb change that started in 2001, there appears to be a new intake camshaft number for 2001 and later and a new exhaust camshaft number for 2004 and later models.  1989 thru 2000 camshafts were all the same according to parts fiches.

I have a 97 GS500E that's all stock except for a 15T front sprocket and a 02 GS500 that's all stock including the 16T front sprocket.  The 02 feels much stronger all around than the 97 and pulls at lower rpms than the 97.  The 02 is a delight to ride compared to the 97 because of the improved flexibility of the engine.

Neither of the bikes has been rejetted and the 97 is a pain in the butt to ride in very cold weather, never seeming to warm up completely.  No problem with the 02 in the cold weather, it's off choke in a couple blocks and pulling easily without the balkiness of the 97. I ride year around here in NE OH and it was about 35F when I went out yesterday.

Here's the test results I've recorded:

Let me know if you can't open it.  I recently went back and added the test results for the EX500 just below the GS500 results in the cases where the GS data came from a comparo test between the two.

Link should open my Public folder that has 2 rack pics, 2 tire logs, and the GS500 tests.  Wouldn't work for me a couple times, but seems to be working again.  Maybe Yahoo problem?

Huh ... you think they yanked out the mondo duration cams the 89-00 had and put in smaller duration and higher lift ... Someone wanna try swapping  camshafts ... or will that make for too close valve piston clearances ...
Cool.
