ok.. I've got carbs with the DJ kit... my question pertains to the needles.  What is the order as far as plastic donut, eclip, washer, and other plastic donut?

also.. how far out should the mix screw be turned?

I'm assuming (starting from the bottom, ) it is:

metal washer, plastic donut washer, eclip, plastic washer w/ ridge, and the spring rests on that.....


is that correct?

Haven't read this, but it is for the 89-00 models, the first one I posted was for the 04 model.

okay... now carb 1 are the parts, and carb 2 are the order they are in and the bike runs like ass.  This is with the mix screw turned out anywhere from 2 to 3 turns out..

The order is correct ... I usually put the metal washer over donut ... but hardly of any consequence ... Its runs like shaZam! because ... I dunno there are no pilots and compensating for pilots with a radical needle is bound to have some draw backs ... or some else ... The kits were made to be dropped in on a bike wihtout taking carbs off at all ... now sometime in the 89's the manufacturers started putting dill out caps onmix screws and fooked up the whole plan ... and that left the kit makers with 2 choices ... get with the program and make stock profile needles with grooves or start confusing people with funky numbers ... and we all know what route DJ took ...
On a side note ... sorry your stock carbs are taking so long ... but they are getting done and sent by this weekend ... Stores and parts shipping ... I am dying here ...

ok because the DJ instructions say to put the washer ABOVE the eclip... but I don't see what that would accomplish other than making the spring tighter?   also the plastic ridge washer almost falls off when it's like that

See more shaZam! ... the needle has a bunch of slots ... why do they even have a washer ... I'll never understand those clowns ...

so does the washer go above the needle?

No ... washer above the needle is not right ... spring preload isn't needed or even going to be significant with the tiny washer ... Under the clip and of course I'd have skipped on it entirely .... maybe its there to give you a 1/2 clip step ...

maybe that's why they ran like crap... it's under the needles now... but i gotta wait until it's not 3am to start it and wake up the neighbors... how about in 4 hours I gotta get up... grrrrr

ok it runs just fine above 3k... below 3k and it runs like butt.  still.  GRRR



couple questions about vacuum home routing.  there is one nipple right next to the throttle cable... it's on the top of the left carb pointing to the right... where does that go?

also, the top T fitting... where does that go?

Goes to the vacuum connection of the fuel valve.

It goes no where. It is for equalizing atmospheric pressure.

OK that vacuum line if you have that open ... major problems ...
If that is connected right and your bike still runs poor at low rpm ... pilots ... you do need those 40's ... see the logic is this ... DJ sells kits around the world ... europe, canada everywhere ... all those countries got 40's we got 37.5's ... now if they have needles compensate for the pilots ... they should sell 37.5's to those countries ... they dont ... so what does that mean ... Yea I  know ... they are hoping you'd find some way of fixing the low end ... cos they dont want to have to tool up to start making pilots ...

can incorrect float height cause my bogging at low rpm?  That hose is connected to the petcock properly... and the other is vented to atm.... so I'm at a loss here.

Float can caust problems at low revs ... but mainly they will affect as the throttle is being opened ... see under 3K I dont know how else to say it ... You need 40 pilots ... I have never seen anyhting work so well and wihtout penalty elsewhere ... you can adjust and twist anyhitng to fix that particular issue but it will come back and bite you in the ass somewhere else ... Just sit tight ... yours are comming back by this weekend ... Then we can open up the DJ ones and fix them.

grr... my work is closed sat though... so no way to get them back this weekend... cause even if they're mailed out today they won't be here until monday... grr.r.......
