I was going onto the highway passing 50mph changing into the left lane hitting 70-80mph and then slid on some damn loose gravel, (from I don't know where) goint into the median and wiping out slamming head first I believe.  Luckily I stayed in the median, slide pretty far and rode away in an ambulence with just a baseball size sprained ankle and wrist.  Very few minor cuts and abrasions.  Now feeling sore all over.  Wondering whether or not to fix my 04 gsf and how much it will cost since I only had liability.  Looks like only the right side is messed up, but fuel was leaking from somewhere.  Going to put some pics up after I am able to walk out of this room.

glad you're ok....the thing about crashing, the day it happens you're sore, than the next day you can't move, the day after that you're sore and can't move at all, then it get's better

Check out the pics of my bike. I fixed it up from the crash, but I just put new handlebars and stuff on it. I left the battlescars on the right side.

Glad you're alright. Must have scared the crap out of you. Seems you could have been hurt much worse. Consider yourself lucky.

how long you been riding? if you dont know where it came from I'd suggest you arent looking far enough ahead or scanning enough while you ride. Did you take the MSF? If so you covered S.E.E there.

Fuel leaking was probably out the top of the carbs through the airbox, common if the bike sits on it's side. Might run a little rough for a bit.

Well seeing you just layed it down I'd bet it's very fixable.

You were lucky to get away with that. Get yourself a decent bike jacket, plenty about. Someone is bound to ask, did you spot the gravel, were you looking at it ?

There seems to be a rule, if there is any hazard on the road and you look at it, you will hit it. The gurus and instructors and especially racers will always tell you to look at where you want the bike to be and it will follow you snarling kicking and screaming maybe but it WILL stay with you.

You were lucky that your guardian angel was able to keep up with you.   Knock on wood...

Tell us more about the type of Jacket (Leather? Textile?) and what about your lower section?  Just jeans?  Overpants?  What?

Everything I've read says you've got less than 10' of slide in jeans and at your speed you were dragging yourself some 140'+ before stopping.  Details?

Glad your OK. I lowsided a month ago, sore for a week. My estimate was around 1300.00 for the left side, I fixed it myself and going to repaint. I spent about 350.00

I was wearing Nautica jeans and jacket.  I recently ordered a leather jacket and new helmet,  guess I won't use those anytime soon.  I did see the gravel, but a little too late.  While I was going onto the highway there were 2 other cars in front of me doin 50, they stayed in the right lane.  I moved into the left lane goin up to 70 and that's when I saw the gravel and said goodnight.  All this was right after getting off the onramp.  I did take the class as it is free on military base to active duty or spouses.  I do have the pictures but if I could e-mail them to someone and have them put it up here I would appreciate it.

Dude...glad to hear your still around. Take your time and get lots of rest. The bike will be there when your ready. Don't be in any kind of rush or worry about it. Just get plenty of rest.

Amazing; the bike actually looks pretty good.  The fairing and brake pedal are messed up for sure, but the frame and everything else looks surprisingly OK except for some dirt and grass.

How are the forks?  It's hard to tell from the pics.

Everyone please ride safe for a little while...er, a big while...between here and cycleforums and the motorcycle crash a couple of days ago that had me stuck in traffic for an hour, it seems like everyone has gone crash crazy...seems like every week there's another...a little unnerving..

Glad to hear that you came out so well.  It cost me about $350 USD to replace the lower fairing; rear cowl; handlebar and assorted brackets.  Believe me, if I can do it, you should be able to.  The most difficult job was putting the decals on the plastic.  The parts will NOT come stickered.  Decals are sold separately; about $65 for one side.  The "Suzuki" decal does come with a top layer to keep the letters together while they dry on the bike.

the pics reminded me of a nagging question i've had for awhile. will the 2002+ tank fit on the earlier frames? the bolts appear to be in the same position. where does the tail plastic fit? i'd like to buy a new tank and plastic, as they come up on ebay a lot, but don't want to commit to any huge modifications. does anyone know about this? oh yeah, the crash was impressive. i'm glad you are not dead. good luck. don't do drugs. buy american. don't forget to brush twice a day. call your mother. don't wear too much denim, it looks silly. i guess this doesn't have anything to do with crashes, but i got to know.

If it makes you feel any better, something similar happened to me. I bought a new GPZ500 (it was yellow too!) on a Saturday. On the following Tuesday (two days later!!!!!) I was on my way to work when a truck t-boned me and destroyed the bike. I only had third-party insurance and it took me 18 months to get my money back off the driver who tried to say it was my fault.

Like you I wasn't too badly hurt, but my wallet was. I don't know what it's like where you're from, but here in England, if you can prove that the road had a hazzard on it that the local council has a duty to remove (oil, ice etc), you can try and claim against them?
