hey guys,

What do you think would bring up the front end better. I already have a 15t sprocket, but did not install it yet. What should i do to bring the bike up easier. Should i also replace the rear sprocket? if yes what size. Replacing the chain is that big of a deal. I just dont know what to do. Should i not replace the front and just get a bigger rear sprocket? let me know what i should do to make it go up easier. Thanks

Replace the front sprocket first, adjust the slack out of the chain, and give it a try.  The whole job should only take 15 or 20 minutes, and then you'll be able to start gathering actual experience to help with further decisions.

If you put a 15 tooth sprocket on only, you should be able to just adjust your existing chain (unless it's already stretched)

any smaller in front or larger in rear will require a different chain, best to get one longer than you expect to use and cut it down to what you need.

I'd suggest using a rivet type master link since you'll be stressing it a lot  trying to pull up the front end.

What is a rivet type master link. Do you guys think that just replacing the front sprocket down to a 15 like i bought should do the trick on its own?

I don't mean to be rude, but why don't you try it and see?   :)   The Stupid question..but... thread will show you what needs to be done for the sprocket swap AND the set of tools needed to do it.  (Pliers and wrenches for adjusting chain slack not shown.)  If you have the tools, it will take far less time to swap that sprocket and try it out than to keep wondering which way to go.   :dunno:

in my opinion, you should just start with the front sprocket, and try it.
You're still going to need to do the "rev engine/dump clutch/hang on' method just lowered revs.
i think it would be easier to learn if you keep trying it like that, instead of doing gearing changes till it's TOO easy (read-you're on your ass next to a wrecked bike)
anyway, anything beyond the 15t front is going to gear your bike too low to use at highway speeds, and is a pain to change back and forth. you want to wheelie, but also be able to go somewhere with the bike when you want to..

if you replace the rear i would add 5 and install the 15 tooth sprocket (2.933 final drive ratio, stock is 2.4375)

i just added 9 (3.00 final drive) to the rear and kept the front stock and i can do wheelies by slipping the clutch 3 grand in first (slippng from 5 to 8 grand)

the bad thing is i redline 6th gear at about 110mph
and i cruse on the highway at around 7 to 8 grand

if you were to go 15/44 i think you would only have to add 2 links...  you might even be able to get away without adding any but i am not really sure
for my 16/48 i added 4 links

going crazy with the sprockets is oh so much fun
i could almost keep up with Jabba on his bandit 600 in straight lines

i am playing with the idea of getting the last 2 or 3 gears re made so i can keep the top end at a reasonable rpm range

Well I had to get a new rear sprocket since I bent my stocker when I was taking my bike apart.  I ended up getting a 42 tooth rear which is the same as a stock rear and 15 tooth front.  Im thinking about going down to the 15t infront too but Im not really sure what I want to do yet, the good thing is that it wont take too long to swap the 15t out if I want to take a long haul down the hi-way.

There's a much cheaper and easier way to get the same results. Put on your helmet, stand on the hood of your car, and throw yourself onto the pavement. Not only will you acheive the same sensations but you'll generate the same opinions about yourself from your friends/family/neighbors. :)
