something to hold the speedo

i finally got the clipons in the mail i've been waiting for since august/september, so i took off the top peice that the normal bars used to hold onto, put the clipons on, spend  couple hours with  hacksaw and the grinder cutting away enough of that top peice around the fork tubes so it'd fit around the clipons, I still need it there because that's what the speedo are bolted onto, but finally after i was almost done, one of the edges snapped off and my whole day way wasted, so i was curious if anyone has any ideas of somewhat clean looking ways to mount the speedo? I have another top peice I can try again, but without a machine shop at my disposal, it looked kinda rough anyway, i'm just looking for something to cover the real top clamp, as it's not that nice looking, and something to bolt the speedo to, it doesn't really have to be specifically weight bearing or anything,

any ideas?

The previous owner of my bike had clip-ons and he did just what you described, cut away a bunch of the aluminium on that piece.  I'll take a pic tomorrow.  I ended up cleaning it up with a belt sander and it's barely noticable that it's modified.

I wonder how expensive 89 GS clip-on hardware would cost? You could return the bike to initial condition that way. It looks like the instruments would transer over but the cable length may be different. The UK version had accel/decel cable for the throttle!

How about a pic of this mod?

i'll definately get some pictures next time  i get home, may not be for a few weeks, i forgot to take my camera this time,

I'm not sure how much the hardware would cost, probably too much though, you'd need to buy the new top clamp as well as the new bars, since they bolt onto it

I may just try cutting up the other peice we have too, i got a spare cause i wanted to save one incase i ever put the normal bars back on, but, i'll have to see
