my 89 gs500 has 13k original miles.  I am, however, replacing the speedo and tach with one that has way less (2k or so) miles

so.  Is there a way to easily roll the odometer FORWARD? (I'm assuming disconnect speedo cable and attach to drill... but that seems like a lot of wear and tear to me..)

john

Well at least it's honest.  If you do roll it to the original mileage you can sign an odometer accuracy statement with a clean concience

I mainly just don't want to have to deal with title problems on down the road..

Get one of those pick sets ... take the bulb out and you'll see where the 10K miles are ... and adding a 10K will leave you close enough ... 2 seconds ...
Oh no my secret is out ...

replace the spedo.   and there should be a place on the title for "actual mileage" when you sell it.  You'll have to check the little box that says "odometer reading wrong [actual mileage]" or whatever.  no big deal.  Now if you change it, and say it only has 2k and try to sell it.  You can get in big trouble with the man for that!

Just curious:  why?

Why do you want one?  And this one I might know the answer to, but why won't CA allow it?

Yeah I figured that.  I've never read anything good about them, except the styling, and the crash course (sometimes literally, considering the brakes) in shadetree motorcycle mechanics you get from owning one.  --Mike D.

IIRC an Indian-made bike that has changed little in decades.  There's probably a good reason you don't see them bumper-bumper in traffic.  I once heard they _are_ fun to chop.

The reason Good_guy wants one ... these grow like weeds in India ... where we grew up ...
I was a CZ/Jawa/Yezdi man before I learned to ride, went Kawasaki KE 100 when I was ~ 16 and never looked away from Jap ...
Of course the enfield logically translates to a GS500 in my mind if the clock of evolution didn't fall down and break at the engineering department ... well what engineering department ...
Anyway In India we can get our hands on a genuine Enfield for ~ 1100-1200 new, and a cruiser that they have recently come up with is ~ 2K ... bringing it here and registering it is a whole other story ...
Evidently You can bring a 25 year or older bike and do what you wish with it cos in many states its considered a vintage bike ... so I know od someone who dragged over a 25 year old enfield fully re built ... That's a 350 though mind you ... they didn't make a 500 till 92 or so ...
