i'm split at the moment. i've recently had to return my leather coat to a local coat store which no longer carrys the style i had. *zipper broke, and they game me the option to return it, or have them send it off while i wait 2 months for it to be returned.

so i took a refund, and i'm now looking on newenough.com and other sites at joe rocket coats. your thoughts are needed... should i get the textile only coat, or wait and go the leather / textile route. *keep in mind summer is coming, but also keep in mind i dont mind riding in 50 deg weather.

so lets hear it.

local cycle shop has the atomic coat which fits nicely and is black with the white stripe. catch is he doesnt want to let it go for much below retail.

now, the coat i like is leather/ textile *canvas* and is a bit higher on price, BUT it has leather in the right places.

also thinking about gloves... looking at meteor gloves and phoenix gloves

thoughts?

THANKS!

I've got the Joe Rocket Atomic jacket with the gold trim.  I love it.  And I just Icon Purist gloves.  Like them too.

I have the reactor s and I really like it.  I've had it over a year.  The zip out liner makes the coat useable all year.

RIP RICH! We'll miss you buddy!

I would never waste my hard earned food stamps on Joe Rocket again. I went through four of them (Alter Ego style) in eight months. They kept falling apart. The seams and zipper just did not stay together. I tried the newest Ballistic and it fell apart on the inside of the jacket. I just decided to go with Alpinestars. I've only had it for three months and not a single problem with it. Save your money and get something different.....I sent a letter to Joe Rocket about my experience with the jackets and they sent me back a letter apologizing for the jackets and a Joe Rocket sticker that I put on the back of a porta-toilet. :thumb:

How much are you looking to spend? I dare you to find prices cheaper than from the one found on Terra Powersports for new (not almost new) equipment. I got my Alpinestars TZ-1 jacket (which retails for $320) for only $249. They have your Joe Rocket Reactor S jacket there for $159. I, personally, prefer the Alpinestars leathers over the Joe Rocket. I know it's generally a little more expensive, but the quality is definitely there.

And actually, I highly echo Jeppy's thoughts. Neither my friends or myself have any good stories to tell about the Joe Rocket gear. Seams do come undone quickly. The leather doesn't even come close to the Alpinestars leather. I, overall, feel a lot more protected with my TZ-1 jacket. With all of the new 2005 jackets, you're bound to find something you like. See if you can spend a little more and get Alpinestars leathers.

I bought a JR Atomic in Spring of 91 and wore it spring, summer, and fall for 2 years while still wearing my leather jacket in cold winter weather.  Then in spring of 93 I got a good deal on a JR Meteor and no longer wear leather for riding.  Lost the vest type liner for the Atomic so I picked up a JR Dry Tech liner last spring to wear under the Atomic for rain and for warmth.  Also added a JR Phoenix mesh jacket last spring which the Dry Tech liner will zip into.

Must have used the 3 JR jackets for 60-70k miles total over the past 4 years and have had no problems with any of them as far as broken zippers, torn seams, or worn out fabric.  They are all still in good shape and I have had only one complaint about them.  The bright colors fade rather badly in the sun so my red and black Atomic doesn't look as good anymore, but my too bright orange and black Meteor looks much better since the orange has faded some.

An all black JR would probably look better longer than the more visible bright colored ones.   Three different weight JR fabric jackets cover it about right for year round riding here in NE OH.  The Meteor is completely waterproof and the Dry Tech liner makes the other 2 waterproof.  No need to carry my rain jacket anymore, just carry the rain pants..

I've got 2 JR jackets and a pair of pants.  I use the Pheonix (mesh) in the summer with the lining in on the cooler days/mornings and a Revolution on the cold days.  I paid $100 for each of them and they've held up well for almost 2 years.  I have mesh pants that help in the cold over jeans and in the summer they're comfortable with shorts.  The pants are sized BIG...  Remember that when ordering.

I got the Joe Rocket "Alter Ego" and I LOVE it! It's been in the 40's and 50's here and that thing is bulletproof against the wind. I have a Firstgear rainsuit that fits over it and when it's raining and cold, I am toasty in it, wearing a T-shirt and Jeans underneath it all.

For gloves, I have the Joe Rocket Ballistic 5.o gloves. Rainproof, warm and they have that squeegie on the left thump.

For some reason, I love riding around in bad weather, always have.

<shrug>

Edit: I got my Alter Ego Jacket on sale new for $165.00

Awesome! Through Terra, I'll save $50 on my Alpinestars Ice jacket. It's a wonder how I never came across that site in all my endless surfing. Thanks!

No problem. They keep all of their prices hidden. The only way you can see an actual cost is if you request a quote (which gets sent out in seconds). Dig around and you'll be pretty amazed at how low they price things. Let me know how the Ice jacket feel. Haven't played with it yet, but it looks amazing. Same with the Spinner jacket.

i have the JR Alter Ego jacket, and i've had no complaints so far...its a decent cold weather jacket that can be stripped down to mesh, so it does everything for me...also have JR Ballistic pants...and they are freaking large for their size...other than that no complaints, but i hear their leather stuff isnt that great...if i had the money i would probably go for alpinestars gear...
