Hi all,

I have an Australian '03 GS500 with the standard bars.  (pic below)

I was wondering what my options are for lower bars as the current ones are a little too 'sit up' for me, or what sort of clip on's are suitable for my beast.

Any help would be appreciated guys (and gals)

DRAG BARS are cheap!!!! and about 2-3 inches lower
but they are a little straighter...different feel on your wrists

CLUBMAN bars feel good but i have never seen them on a GS....i don't know why.... :dunno:

Srinath bars are kinda blend of the two above...flat and good wrist angle
want Iain's money to support my butt in kens shop

I'll give another thumbs up for Srinath's bars... I have the 2 weld ones and they're great.

(more pics HERE)

I think he still has some for sale... I dunno. I'm sure he'll chime in.

his bars won't fit the 01+ model
wileyco, K&N pod, rejet 22.5/65/147.5, F16 flyscreen, progressive springs, 15t front sprocket...more to come: katana shock

The ones on Treybrad's bike wont quite fit a 03 ...
I make clip on's Check page 25 Wall of fame ... OK I just check and ther is no 25 and no pic ... I'll upload some in a bit.
Cool.

Here in Oz, things are a bit different than in the good ol' USA.  Srinath's bars are too expensive by the time you take shipping and exchange rates into account.  I have a set of Ventura bars, model number VH-4, that I got from the local Suzuki dealer.  They are not quite straight, and have less than 2cm rise on them.  They are really comfortable, provide a little bit more lean forward than stock, and don't kink my wrists as much as others I've tried.
BTW you do need to shorten them an inch or so each end.  Takes all of 5 minutes with a hacksaw.

OK here is pics ... and yes they might be too pricey ...

USD$60 and shipping ... but here is an idea ...
They put clipon's on more years in the euro and Aussie bikes I am sure ... get one of those top triples and the posts and tubes ... wrecking yards have bundles of those prolly ...
Cool.

Hey Treybrad ...
I looked at the other pics you have ... the brake banjo should be more like ... not sticking out that much ... I have my levers down lower, but still I think your banjo has possibly been rotated forward more ... You dont want that contacting the ground or anything if you drop it ... its gotta be out of the way ...
Cool.

Hmm. Brake banjo? Is that the "L" shaped piece coming out the left of the brake fluid resivoir?

Close enough.

This one-page, bicycle-related PDF file from Shimano shows various configurations of banjos, banjo bolts, and related fittings.  The concepts are the same for motorcycles.

No, both of the GS500s sold in Oz prior to 2000 are still on the road.
Seriously, they were not that popular till lately, and tended to be bought by folks who were careful enough not to break them all that often.  I've tried several times to get bits 2nd hand and many of ther wreckers don't have any GS500 stuff at all and a couple of them said they've never had any.  Go figure.

The Buddha

He said Clubmans hit the 04 fairing and Drag bars dont ...
We knew that ... Me and dave Olive tried a couple months ago to fit my 2 weld bars on the 04 and never got one we were happy with... a couple didn't hit really but too close for comfort ...  Whihc is why ... true clip on's were made.
Cool.
