Can I buy a K&N SU-5589 and rejet?

davipu

yes and you will get a siginificant, not much, horsepower increase.

Focer

...so not even worth it?

Dom

I've never heard of that part #....must be the drop in...

Kerry

I installed the SU-5589 without rejetting, just so I don't "have to" buy a new OEM paper filter every 7500 miles or 2 years.  The K&N is supposed to last for something like 500,000 miles, but it does need periodic cleaning & re-oiling.

If you DO buy the filter and you DON'T rejet, be sure to install the restrictor ring.  (See my K&N Stock Replacement Air Filter page.)

Oh man! I ask if I can install the drop-in filter with restrictor without rejetting in another post and get yelled at for even suggesting it. Kerry can do and everything is hunky dory? :dunno: Damn you Kerry straight to hell! Hell I say! ;)

Ah yes - I think I remember that thread.  I remember thinking, "Hmmmm.  I'm at 4800+ feet and he's near sea level.  Since the air is more dense at that altitude, maybe he would have to rejet, especially if he left the restrictor off...."

Sorry I didn't pipe up before.  :dunno:

So once again. Would "I" be ok? (500-1000ft. I think)

davipu

if I remember right it comes with the restrictor plate, then you put it on and when you want to rejet it you just take it off.

Yes. It is definitely supplied with the filter.

I live at a similar altitude (4500'), with a stock carb, would it work out to run the SU-5589 filter without the restrictor? or is this more of a try-it-and-find-out thing? I found an inexpensive used one without the restrictor, and am curious if I could use it without rejetting.

You will need to rejet without the restrictor.
