I changed the front sprocket, and I'm not doing something right b/c now the clutch wont clutch.


is there any certain way this cover goes back on there?  b/c i cant see what I'm doing wrong.

Did you take out / reinsert the pin that operates the clutch?
Did you unhook the clutch cable by accident?
Did you fiddle with the clutch cable adjustment at the lower threaded nipple?
Oh, and I don't know if that's possible, but have you taken out the contraption that converts the rotary movement caused by the clutch cable acting on the lever into an axial movement pushing the clutch pin? (And possibly reinsert it one thread off?)

How does the clutch lever feel? Normal resistance or not?

THe clutch pin might have come out a little, but im not too sure.

In any event, it's working now

Mi GS clutch isn't working after changing the sprocket....what could it be? i checket the pin and it was there, i pushed it in and it doesn't go any farther in.  let me know if any suggestion.

Other than what Markus said, also make sure that the screws on the cover is tightened correctly.  If it is not tight, the clutch mechanism won't work.

This may or may not help.

I removed the drive sprocket cover and pulled the neutral switch and some oil dribbled out.  I think some oil managed to run down to the clutch push rod.  After I put it all back together (it took a couple of tries to get everything lined up correctly) I went for a test ride just to see if everything worked OK.  Low and behold the clutch worked much smoother that before. Could have been the oil.  I don't know. :dunno:
