anyone know of a place to get a different type of engine guards. the stock ones IMO are kind of bulky besides being ugly plus mine have been banged up, not from me though.

Do not drop the bike and you will not have any problems.

But if you must....frame sliders are available from //www.whaccessories.com. Not sure how well they will protect the case covers though. For the right side, the best investment is a machined aluminum one. GS500/450 igntion case covers

ok i lied can you use any frame sliders. i saw a bunch on e-bay and was wondering if i could use those. i was thinking if the bolt that comes with them doesn't fit, i'll just run to home depot and get one that will. thanx for any help.

It is extremely tough compared to the cast POS that Suzuki put on the bike. It can takes several hits without causing any engine damage. Go down on the stock cover and you have $100+ worth of damaged. Plus they are really bling bling and polish very nicely.

The sliders attach to the upper front engine mount. The same one as the top bolt of your case savers. Length of the slider is important to be effective. A longer engine mount bolt can be obtained but doubtful that you will find one on the shelf at HD or similar stores. The bolt is fairly small in diameter but a 3/8" dia rod could be made into a bolt.

Someone on this board was working on making sliders but I have not seen anything recently about it. I started to but pushed it aside with all my other projects.

OK the bolts have to be 13 inches or so long ... home depot wont do, threaded rod is too soft, threading a hardened steel rod is arm and tap and tool holder breaking exercise ... I have bolts I bought for my case saver thing last year ... I'll sell you some of those ... if you need them ... $6 or so is what they cost me ... includes nylock nut ... but no washers ...
BTW I am making case savers in a few weeks ... Might be less ugly than what you got but still it's a big ass steel bar ... no getting around that fact ... But real protection comes from the "big assiness" of it ... It's supposed to catch the ground well before the motor does ... so something tiny and cute looking isn't going to work that well ...

hey i don't know bout the older models, but i have an 04' model and i am having to use a 2 ft. piece of b7 all thread to custom fit them with my fairings. hey if u are making some case saver let me know! i want to really find someone that can make me a cage for my bike i am wanting to start doing wheelies, i got a set of frame sliders of ebay.
