just can't let it sit still. who knows, maybe someone will have a enlighting point of view that this sparked, and I might learn something new, but without constant pot stiring you aren't ever going to bring the new views into light to whare you can debate them till the end of time.  whould it have been better if I had just siad," I think Americans as a general group are fat lazy morons, that don't care about thier precarious situation in this world?"

Are you sure you haven't been using the Windows clipboard?  If this is original prose ... well, I'm impressed!  You're a "deeper pool" than you let on sometimes.  :)

And even if you did read it elsewhere, it shows that you're thinking and that you care.

So, who wrote that...  I like it.  I replied to your other "pot stirring" post but I'll add some here too...

What would you like us to do?  Overthrow the government?  You wouldn't want that to happen, trust me on that.  Do you realize how hard it is to get into office to try to make a change?  Without the endorsement of one of the 2 parties, forget it.  And the country would grind to a halt with 500+ independents in Congress.  How do you organize 100 million who are working full time to make their payments?

Face it, we are living in the Matrix.  We go to work, produce something to help the economy.  We go home and spend our money to help the economy.  Besides that, we have no other value.  Through the media you are manipulated every day to spend spend spend.  Now even "news stories" are becoming commercials.  Whole channels are dedicated to get you to spend.

Religion is the root of all evil.  I truly believe that.  "Regular" people (non-religious) are usually quite normal and forgiving.  "Highly Religious" people on the other hand are judgmental and how can I say it... strange.  How can you possibly believe and worse yet base your entire being and life on a story about a guy who "farted out the universe".  Unbelievable!  Both the story and the people who believe it!  Now I'm not saying that just because you believe in God you're strange, just mis-informed.  It's the zealots who are strange.  Look at all the trouble both past and present caused by religious beliefs.  All the wars fought over a "belief", not even anything proven as factual.  What a shame.  Sure the underlying teachings are "usually" good.  Golden rule and all the ten commandments stuff...  But the rest, the stuff about heathens and unbelievers, the looking down on others who are not in your church...  A real pity.

It's easy to understand the foreign policy of a third world country... survive!  Thats it.  When you're the U.S. things are a LOT more complicated.  A LOT more...

We ARE fat dumb and happy.  I just hope that some religious fanatic doesn't mess it all up with a nuke in a major city.  Trust me here too, you DON"T want that to happen.  A nuke in a major city would destroy our economy because everyone would flee the other major cities for fear they would be the next target.  Without the cities everything would fall apart.  They are the commerce hubs.  Everything goes through them.  Without them everything stops.

If other countries would use the "business model" of government that the U.S. does, they too could be successful.  At least until every country is "1st world".  Once the cheap labor runs out I'm not sure how things will work out.  It started with Japan, they were the cheap labor/products in the 60s.  Next it was Taiwan and Korea.  Now these countries are 1st world.  Now it's China.  Soon they will be THE world economic power.  When you are 1/5 of the world you have some clout.  Now the other countries that use the "religious" model of government, well, I don't hold much hope for them.  Even if they do have free money in oil reserves.

Ok, someone elses turn...

Almost apathetic. Get people to where they don't feel like they can make a difference and they won't. Well, I am not apathetic...this is my country and I will bang my head into the wall until a brick comes out or I pass out...and if one brick comes out maybe others can understand that they can move them too. Plus, there's a lot of selfishness in this country anymore (I think so anyway) and people seem to get the attitude that if things are going ok for themselves then they don't care what the plight of others is. Love the White Owl and the forum.

The american (people's) attitude toward foreign policy has been criticized as an "us" and "them" thought process. How is this any different? How is criticizing the "religious" for ruining this country going to get a damn thing done? It's no different than the people handing out pamphlets on how we're all going to hell becuase we don't believe in their religion. All you're going to accomplish is getting them angry and defensive. Once ANYONE (even a "normal" person) is in that state of mind, they're not going to be at all interested in what you have to say. It just isn't going to happen.

I'm sure that I could sit here for hours, listing off the things that piss me off. I'm sure that most people have a list. My question becomes, what's the point of spending so much time bitching about it? I'm guilty of a lot of this, too. Instead of sitting around talking about how I feel humanity is doomed, I could go work at a soup kitchen, teach an illiterate adult how to read or any number of volunteer oppertunities. Why don't I? Because I'm selfish. Because I feel that I am too busy to do any of that when the truth is that I spend an hour or two in front of the computer most days.

Let's spend our energy in a more constructive manner. Both "sides" could get a lot done if they stopped arguing, turned their attention inwards and did something more useful than arguing all the time about who is sending what to hell and why the other should change.

As C said; "this is my country and I will bang my head into the wall until a brick comes out or I pass out...and if one brick comes out maybe others can understand that they can move them too."

BTW, my prediction for this thread's tard farm banishment is about 12 hours. Maybe a day since it is the weekend.

Not exactly.  But I believe that the words "let there be light" caused the big bang.  These two ideas aren't far apart if you pause and consider.

goat,

It's not going to happen.  Both sides are convinced they're right and the other is wrong.  Both sides CAN'T bring themselves to accept the others point of view.  Hell, I'm guilty of that too.  There are things that are just plain wrong that I can't tolerate.

Take abortion.  There are "right to lifers" who say it's just plain wrong at any time, period.  It's a human at conception.  The "pro-choice" say it's necessary and the womans perogative.  That it's not a "human" until it's actually born and living on it's own (my side).  Without abortion we'd have an additional 100 million + unwanted children in this country.  Right to lifers:  How many are you going to adopt?  4?  5?  Otherwise it's the government (our taxes) that will pay for their care.

Religion.  Some believe and base their life on whatever sect they belong to.  Others don't believe and don't care to hear/see religion in anything (me).  I put up with religion because I'm aware that a lot of people do believe and they're the majority.  Yes, I do believe in majority rule because it's their country and they shouldn't have to abide by and put up with what a few want.  I think certain things should go before the people nationally as a referendum vote.  Right or wrong, what the people want they should get.  If the majority of people want the ten commandments in a building it should go there.  Who is to say what REALLY is right or wrong?

ghey marriage.  Some believe whatever makes a person happy let them do.  Others find the whole idea an abomination (me).  Personally I find homosexuality disgusting.  It's inconceivable that to me that two men would want to have sex.  I put it in the same class as having sex with an animal.  It's just plain wrong.  Do you realize what a health hazard being ghey is?  The ghey (and to a lesser extent the IV drug users) lifestyle is THE main transmitter of HIV.  I've seen numbers as high as 25% of ghey men become HIV positive every year.  This means that within 4-6 years you have an almost 100% chance of aquiring HIV.  Do you know what this costs the government?  The government is expected to have to pay 1/2 of ALL medical costs in 10 years.  Do you realize what this means?  Trillions!

I used to be very liberal.  When I was young, ignorant, and had nothing, I used to think "let everyone do whatever they want".  Now I have something to lose and I'm very conservative.  You can't rock the boat too much or you'll tip it over.  And if it tips too far it will sink.  A country is the same way.  It can't go too far of you'll lose it.

BTW, what IS so bad about the US anyway?  We went from nothing to number 1 in less than 200 years.  Everyone wants to live here.  You don't see people climbing walls/fences to LEAVE the US!  Just wait, in 20 years maybe/probably less, China will be the big guy and THEY can deal with all the wackos in the world.  Sometimes I think it would be nice to just sit back and let some other country take over for a while and see how THEY run things.  It's easy to sit at home and Buddha Loves You about how bad things are and what needs changing.  It's another thing entirely when YOU are the one responsible for running things.  I'd love to cut back on all the things we do for others like military protection, food aid, medical aid, just plain cash, loans that never get paid back, etc.  This country bends over backwards to help others and it's NOT appreciated.  Take the tsunami.  America was the only country that really mattered over there.  We had the Navy there with support ships, helicopters, TONS of every kind of aid.  Air Force planes flew in material/people too.  And what does Indonesia say?  Get out quick, we don't like Christians in our country.

If anything I think this country is WAY to generous.  Both internally and externally.  Eventually it WILL bankrupt us.  But, everyone wants and will not give up their entitlements.  And I'm one of them.

a reply to some of the aforementioned posts. you cant prove to me that god did not exist, and i cant prove to you (scientifically) that he did. except through my faith.

let me give you a quote from a preacher.

" a puppy grows up to be a dog, a kitten grows up to be a cat, a human child. is basically the only being that has the opportunity to chose what type of person he/she becomes":

answer me this, why is it that basically all creatures, (except us), have "evolved", but theyve not evolved much. compared to us. no internet, cars roads, houses, the gs500 microwaves computers, etc etc, etc, etc.
why is it that nothing else has done so much, for their kind?

another question, if you dislike this country so much, why are you still here?
it is not that hard to leave. i ask that question in a peaceful manner. im not trying to start a flame war here. if i offended any of you, i do apologise

yamahaguy,

There is a flaw in that thinking.  You expect an amoeba to build a car?  You expect a dog to write a novel?  Each creature is what it is.  It has evolved to be the best it can be at this point in time.  Evolution is NOT linear.  There are branches like a tree and the tips are where we are now.

Look at what the other animals CAN do.  Bees dance to show others in the hive where the food is.  Spiders build intricate webs with NO directions or anyone teaching them.  Quite amazing for a "bug" if you ask me.  There are numerous examples of "amazing" behaviour that "dumb" animals are capable of doing.  What makes you think that you alone have a feeling of "self".  Animals think, remember, I'd even venture to guess they love and hate too.  They dream too.

People are not the only ones to use tools but we are the best.  Yes, people are the only animals to SIGNIFICANTLY change the environment.  So what.  What does this prove/disprove?  Does it prove that some invisible guy farted us out?  (Man, I love that line!) Does it PROVE evolution?  No to both.  But from what we REALLY know it's the best we've got.  A chimp is close to 99% genetically identical to humans.  That's pretty convincing to me that we're related.  Was a chimp Gods 98,845,683rd attempt at making man?  Was it just practice?  Was he just bored and felt like making something else?  What about the other animals, why ARE they here?

I sure don't KNOW the answers to these questions but I'm also not going to blindly believe in something that seems so absurd as a god who made/runs/keeps track of everything.  Now THAT is stretching the imagination.

. since youve put it that way, theres only as much flaw in mine as there is in yours, nobody has the proven right answer
