I pulled this from the SV650 site and thought I'd pass it along.

As some of you know I am in the market to buy a new motorcycle.

I know the MSRP of the ZX-6R, but had no idea of what the invoice cost was and was finding dealers wanting to charge all kinds of different setup fees.

I thought I'd do a bit of research which turned out to be a good idea. I found a site which will show you exactly what the dealer invoice is, how much prep actually costs and it also displays a 'ready to sell' price (no profit for dealer) which buyers can use to work from. The site is www.cyclebuy.com and I'm glad I spent the $13 for peace of mind and some 'ammunition' for when I negotiate with the dealer.

My query was for a 2005 Kawasaki ZX-6R and showed an MSRP of $8599, an invoice cost of $7373 and the ready to sell price (post setup) as $7439. For contrast, the prices I was quoted from one dealership for this bike was $9600 OTD. That's a $2161 profit. I am not including doc, tax title and license (TTL) coz that would paid on top of the OTD price. OTD is just my way of cutting through the crap and dealing with one number, allowing the dealer to break up the cost however they want, as long as I get a fair price.

This means one could probably get the ZX-6R for around $8000 or less OTD (+ doc&TTL) and allow for the dealer to make some money on this hot new in-demand model. I'm not looking for the absolutely lowest price, just a fair price.

If you want to pay a small fee of 12.99 to save hundreds, check out www.cyclebuy.com and get that invoice and cost break-down sheet before you spend too much on a new bike!

I can't wait to approach a few dealers with this info. If the dealer denies the accuracy of this service one can always ask to see an actual factory cost card with a different price on it. However, they WILL know that it's correct and will know not to mess around.  At least, that's the plan.

BTW if anyone else here bought a ZX-6R or is shopping around, I'd love to hear the prices you've been quoted.
