What do you guys do at tolls?

Well in order to get to work every day I need to go through a toll. I've only been through a toll 3 times on my bike. The first time I went to the window with a person, put my bike in neutral, took off my gloves, and reached back to my pocket to get my wallet. There were a couple cars behind me after all of that. The other 2 times I said f*** it and made it look like I through some coins in and booked it.

In the spring I want to take my bike to work as much as I can but have to go through the toll twice a day. I'm wondering what you guys do at tolls. Or if there is a little coin pouch I can put on my bike somewhere to hold some toll tokens. It would have to be easily accessible though so I don't have to take my gloves off. Thanks.

an easily accesible pocket on ur arm or chest or tank bag is a good idea.  some people wear easy pass

most of the tolls I have gone through either I had the change in the top pocket of my tank bag or they had a voucher system that you can send in with a check.  now if the car behind you is riding your ass, sometimes you have to stop and take off your gloves take the wallet out of some magical pocket that takes three zippers to get to, find the largest bill you have, wait for change, drop change, proceed to pick change up, have to get off bike to get change put change in the tank bag for the next toll, put wallet back in magic pocket, put gloves back on, try to start bike, wonder why the bike won't start, "realize" the kill switch is in off, start bike, ride off like you are taking a driving test.

E-pass....  i just gotta watch my speed thru the e-pass lane... they used to not care, but now we have to slow to below 15mph. I've gotten two warning letters. next time i get a ticket mailed to me... :x

I keep some money in my front pockets on my jacket- Neutral...hand the money over  then go... Maybe pull a glove off- but I can usually fish the money out with a gloved hand...

My Jacket is pretty much done.. ..(Old Moto-line Atlas Jacket... loved that jacket..)... Time to do some shopping I guess...

Cummuterguy.... is that a photo ticket deal there where they go by your tag?.... Or did they mail it off the EZ pass registration???

they pull it off the e-pass, i think.
i guess it's easier for them (since the info is already in the scanner) than tracing a photo of a tag.

the few times i went through a toll, i had prepared ahead. In any case i had money in my tank bag, so it was a matter of unzip and pay the lady.

In CA we don't have the type that you throw coins into a catch feed, but if i had that i would have made some sort of way in the tank bag to hold the coins for just that sort of thing.

A friend of mine in Florida  got one of those lenses that went over his license plate .....the ones that when you take a picture of them  all you see is a white  blob instead of any tag numbers....  He just  blows through the tolls down there....He estimated the camera height/flash height thing and took a pic from a similar height/angle and all you see is the blur.... Can't even get the numbers by reversing the negative...This was a few years ago.......

Dunno if you can get those things anymore (legally) ...think he got it from some company in Canada....

I haven't talked to him in forever.... gotta track him down...

So Cummuter...get a phony ezpass magnetic "sticker" and one of those tag things...hehehehehe

heh A friend in Autralia did a James Bond-license plate deal on his....has a little rig that drops his tag down on  a hinge ...no tag to get a pic of...then he pulls it back up (Think it's on a cable kind of deal...).  Can probably get in alot of troube with something like that tho....

Anyway....

In the motorcycle magazines like JC Whitney they have those corny little metal coin holders that you can attach right to your handle bars.  Just like the ones they wore in the old days on their belts.

Mmmm EZTag. Here you can go through the EZTag lane the speed limit or 15 over... and no one cares. I mean, the point is kind of to keep the traffic going. Having to slow down is stupid.

But yeah, get an e-pass if you go through the tolls every day. Around here I've heard that you can ride through on the grease strip and not set the camera off. Or you could always get one of those flip-up license plates.

what about drive-throughs?
where do you put your cup of soda?

Eklipse

I don't get a soda and I usually go inside, because the drive throughs don't always register with the bike. In theory you could get a handlebar cup holder... but honestly if I do have a drink, I just drink about 1/3 or dump it out, then hold it between my legs while I ride.

I once heard of taping the toll to your tank, but leave a little flap of tape up so you can grab it and pull it off.

like so

---tape----quarter----quarter---quarter----tape----tape folded onto itself

then when you get to the toll just grab the part where the tape is folded onto itself,  Hand it to the toll person and go.

Kinda sucks to be the person recieving it because they have to pull off the quarters but hey, its either that or wait 2 minutes.

I usually dont order drinks at a drive though or anywhere I go for lunch (damn 30 min lunch break) I have to haul ass back to work. So I have found myself drinking MUCH less soda at work, and more water (hey its free). But usually I just order my food, and jet, but its more expensive if you dont get the combo, bastards. I've also started bringing my lunch, like today, mmm chicken and rice from dinner last night....mmm.... Plus its payday, so i have to bolt to the bank and back before my 30 min lunch break is over, god i hate 30 min lunch breaks....and I still work full time.

when i know i'm going through a toll, i just leave a couple bucks ($3 toll here) in my tankbag...no taking off gloves, a 5 second zip-hand over cash-zip and go...

A nice idea, but any covering over the tag, even a clear lens, is illegal now in fla, and will eventually get you a ticket. they don't usually notice a completely clear one, but any tint, color etc will get you pulled, and it's a court date ticket, not just unsafe/improper equip ticket.

I have a buddy that used to blow thru the regular tolls before they put gates across them, but in my opinion, that's kinda stupid. It's not worth saving a couple of bucks to risk life, limb, and licence.

The plate he has is clear...it has a lens type of thing inside the body of the plastic cover (I just woke up so if I'm explaining this poorly - sorry). It looks like your average clear tag cover from behind- no tint.  The flash getting refracted etc in the lens is what blurrs it all out.  Like I said this was years ago.....dunno if he still uses it....

This guy LOVES sticking it to the man....So I'd not be surprised if he still has  it or something like it...

He had a traffic ticket and in between his ticket  day and court day he basically grew a beard and when he went to court he wore a suit and carried a briefcase. When his case was called the police officer couldn't identify him in the courtroom- He sat next to two lawyers and spoke quietly with them when his case was called... (Don't they(police) have to be able to ID you in the court room down there...??). The officer couldn't pick him out...case dismissed.  Or at least thats what he told us...

Watch out using Epass...  They keep track of your speed and some will mail you a ticket if you arrive too soon to the next sensor.

in oklahoma for all turnpike routes there is an option to purchase a pikepass *works like the other devices mentioned above*

i've only had to ride down 1 toll road, and paid with money i kept in a top pocket on my coat... i was riding with 12 other bikes at the time so people waiting in line couldnt complain about just 1 bike being slow.

side note: do you realize how much damage and wear a motorcycle causes to a road that it requires a toll!!! it's just amazing! ranks almost equal to that of a semi truck!  :bs:

a camera system snaps a photo of the rear of every vehicle / bike that doesnt pay... a way to get around it is to be moving at a speed higher then 110 mph when going through the toll gate! *dont ask me how i know this*
